Lamlis steps out of his cover and brushes himself off. "Well done boys! Anybody hurt?"
Lamlis walks over and retrieves any bolts he's able to. (OOC: 1/2 of shot bolts) He crouches to the ground and checks for any sign of larger groups of orcs or animals.
Alban wipes his sword on the grass to clean it. He shakes his head in response to Lamlis’ question. ”Thankfully, I’m unhurt. I’ve never been so glad orcs have awful aim.”
Lamlis turns from his crouch and looks at Alban. "Not gonna lie, I was a little worried about you when you stepped up to them like that. You handled yourself well........ I'm actually surprised we didn't run into any trouble before now."
”I am too,” Alban agrees with Lamlis. He sheathes his sword. “This journey has been too quiet. Of course, growing up on the streets of Neverwinter taught me how to handle myself in a fight. It’s all about knowing when to make a calculated risk.”
Zylxian will move to collect his salvageable bolts, and says to the rest of the group “It’s best if we leave this place quickly, I don’t seek any more skirmishes with Orcs. If we tarry too long, there may be more than just two ambushing us.” He’ll then move into the shrubbery and begin moving in the direction towards Gnomengarde, saying “While we have some cover, I’ll flank to the left to keep an eye out for more threats. Keep us on the right trail with the map.” Stealth: 18 Perception: 7
The rest of the journey continues smoothly. Though Alban and Lamlis spot signs of recent orc activity, trampled flora, abandoned fire pits, and boot prints, no orcs are seen.
Following Alban's guidance, the party makes it to the base of one of the Sword Mountains, from which a river flows. Before them is a mist-filled concavity, in which a roaring waterfall can be heard. In the center of the river, two small islands are visible, on which tall, multicolored mushrooms grow. Several cave openings overlook the river from rocky ledges twenty to thirty feet above. According to the map, you have reached Gnomengarde.
Lamlis whispers, "Let's just be a little cautious till we know for sure."
He will stealthily walk in further towards the waterfall along the left side. He is going to take a minute to check for signs of tracks from gnomes, orcs or other creatures. He is also looking up at the cave openings for any signs of life. He then looks to his other companions to see what ideas they may have and readies his crossbow.
“I’ll search for a way up, the gnomes must get up to their caves somehow,” Zylxian says, attempting to move silently to one of the cliff walls. He’ll search to see if there are enough handholds that would make the walls climb able, and if not, if there’s a sturdy enough rock above that they could lasso a rope to. Stealth: 23 Perception(-1 if Investigation): 20
Lamlis notes small bootprints, identifiable as those of gnomes. Taking a moment to listen, at first all he hears is the roar of the waterfall...then the sound of voices, speaking in a language he does not understand.
Zylxian determines the rocky ledges are indeed climbable, though they may require a bit of athletics to reach. The cliff to the northeast has a small carved path that would allow for easy climbing, and is likely the way the gnomes access the caves.
Lamlis whispers. "Psssssst. Guys. I hear voices. Could be gnomish but I dont understand the language. Also, there's small footprints all around here. Look to be gnomish in size. Should we just announce ourselves so we're not seen as a threat?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“Let’s investigate further first, I’d hate to reveal myself to a band of Orcs that have invaded Gnomengarde. It’s quieter than I’d expect a Gnomish city, and at the very least I’d expect to see some sort of watch kept.” Zylxian points to the northeast cliff, “That’s our entrance, so if we find gnomes inside we can announce our presence then.” He’ll then move to climb the northeast cliff, still attempting to be stealthy. Alban will attack the remaining orc with his long sword.
Attack: 18
Damage: 11
((OOC: forgot to add the +2 damage from Hexblade’s curse!))
If needed, Lamlis will move 5 feet north, aim and fire at the remaining orc with his crossbow.
Attack: 14 Damage: 3
He will then move 5 feet south back into the cover of brush.
With Alban's swing and Lamlis's bolt, the final orc falls defeated on the road.
End of combat.

Lamlis sees no further sign of orc presence, the only evidence of animal disturbance being deer tracks, their age unable to be determined.
