"Thankfully, Olladra had different plans for me than her evil son," replies Evan once he has finished with the fountain. "So, a short rest now, or press on? Is anyone hurt?" he asks.

" A short rest would probably be a good idea."
Taraven would like to investigate the chapel for any "uncursed??" valuables/items or any script or writing that indicates any other information we don't know about regarding what is happening in the mine or how the chapel is connected to what's going on in the mine.
Taraven’s search takes her to the adjoining room in the northwest which she judges to be the mine onsite priest’s quarters, as this was the chapel.
This plain room contains a bed, a wardrobe, and a writing table, all of which are covered by an undisturbed blanket of dust. On the table beneath the grime are a candle in a pewter dish and a scroll of beaten metal. The scroll is written in dwarvish runes inscribed on the rolled metal sheet and chronicles the events that led to the downfall of the Knuckle.
Written by the priest, known as Averes before he abandoned his faith and embraced The Keeper, the god of greed and undeath. Afflicted by fear and greed, the priest Averes appealed to The Keeper for immortality as an unholy lich, but was judged unworthy. Instead The Keeper offered him a different route to immortality, one tied with greed, by plunging the mine into a curse that would last as long as Averes’ own life, and his own deathless greed. The Keeper taught him the ritual of Glitterdoom, by which greedy men could be transformed by their lust for gold into the unique hybrid of mineral and undead, the Stoneghosts, and the priest was given the unflattering name of “Greedyguts,” as the first to literally ingest gold. Unlike the other dwarves turned into Stoneghosts, the priest maintains his sentience it seems, and commands the others.
It tells of the discovery of the gold vein, the descent by the miners, and his calling down the glitterdoom to possess the gold. Averes finishes his tale by declaring his intent to move down into the mine and transform it into a cathedral worthy of his new god.
The wardrobe holds only tattered religious raiment and there is nothing else of interest or value inside.
Based on your rolls, Taravan concludes that when this “Greedyguts” is slain, the Glitterdoom curse will end, and the Stoneghosts and other spawn of the Glitterdoom will be no more.
Investigation with Galtheon's help (if it makes a difference from what you revealed DM) 24
OOC: Nat 20!!!
Working together to bump up the final component of the search - the actual physical investigation - you discover a hidden compartment under the priest’s bed, containing a box that has within it a shield that bears the emblems of the Sovereign Host pantheon, evidently cast aside by the apostate priest when he turned to the worship of the Dark Six and The Keeper. The shield can be examined during a rest - it is a +1 Shield.
It looks like the priest attempted to burn the shield, after his conversion of faith, but as a magic item it resisted such efforts, so he simply buried in in a concealed space under the bed.
“So this Averes, the mine’s chaplain, he was the one responsible for all of this,” Okkar says, a growl in his voice. “He brought the curse on the knuckle, turned men into monstrosities, all out of his greed and fear of death. You really think if we kill him we purify this place? Either way, he needs to pay for this betrayal.”
OOC: Note, anyone can use the shield, the Sovereign Host emblems are decorative.
Also, as a reminder - probably not needed - but it was a priest of the Silver Flame, not the Host, who was acting as a missionary in the first sequence.
Last OOC update, resting outside the mine is still safe to do, as long as you have rations or do hunting to supplement them, or goodberrries. Effectively the module gives you no restrictions on this.

I suspect it is still relatively early in the day and that the long rest is mainly for the spell casters.
If that is the case, then Nanoc will see to the horses, taking them to and from the watering hole individually while keeping an eye out for small game to have a go at with his sling and suitable stones he picks up along the way.
He is mainly catering for himself, but here's a Survival check to see if he gets lucky enough to bring home enough fresh meat for the rest of the party.
Nanocs' Hunting Survival roll: 22
After doing this, he will then spend some time mending his torn tunic and getting some rest before dinner and nighttime watches.

(( I wasn't sure if it was a long or short rest (lunch?); technically, one long rest per 24 hours ))
Probably a short rest now I would imagine, although there is nothing preventing you from spending the remainder of the day outside the mine and just returning in the morning, really.
This might especially be advisable if the group plans to aggressively push to locate and destroy the corrupt priest “Greedyguts” in his underground temple to The Keeper on the next expedition.
((@Galtheon: Taraven will have taken the 2 crossbow bolt cases with 18 just in case she runs out of spell slots.))
Once outside to take their long rest, Taraven will write in her notebook about the Glitterdoom and write questions regarding the fountain and calcification and other mysteries of this curse.
"We must rest up if we are to face this Greedyguts. I assume he will have many Stoneghosts at his side to protect the mine. I would also be hesitant in refining the gold we found in the locked room until we end this curse and be sure there are no remnants of evil attached to them."
“Oof, that could have been us, and it looks like what they had in mind for Evan,” Okkar says as he points to the petrified rat.
Evan:

"Nice job, priest. Kept 'em busy."
He gingerly avoid the water as he helps Taraven. "Don't drink the water" he says.
"Hahahaha! Good tip Galtheon"

OOC: Yes, realistically this investigation and the dissemination of information would be a group effort.

(( ooc: lol...Where are the Holy scimiatrs of Smiting when you need them? ))
Galtheon grunts, "Priestly gear. I rarely use my own shield as it is."
(( Loot list updated, 24gp each ))
He inspects the rooms one more time, then nods in satisfaction, and says "Rest outside. Here is not safe."
When they get outside, Galtheon turns to Evan and asks, "So, priest, are you the leader of the holy men who set on me when I arrived?"
OOC: Note, anyone can use the shield, the Sovereign Host emblems are decorative.
