A great fortress with walls of rusting, pitted iron and massive stone blocks, stained and scarred by time and the perpetual winds, clings to the edge of the ever-eroding cliff as if awaiting only the right moment to collapse and crumble away into the distant vortex. An ancient lava flow has descended from the volcanic peaks behind the fortress to consume much of the rear portion of the citadel, leaving only its imposing gatehouse, its curtain wall, and a portion of its central keep unburied by the volcanic rock. Although half-buried by the ancient eruption and battered by the erosion of this dark place, the fortress still seems strong and grim.
You arrive in Area D1 of the fortress. A massive, 10-foot-thick riveted iron plate closes off the fortress’s main gate, put in place by Baba Yaga to seal the gate shut and trap the fortress’s occupants inside. Rose and Zaf notice with their Passive Perception that the murder holes in the ceiling 60 feet above are open and large enough for a Medium creature to fit through and that the rivets can easily be used to climb up to the holes.

"Looks as if it might be a tight squeeze for some of you, but certainly possible. Though before we enter, there is one trick I... thought I might use. Now that I've started to recall a bit more." Zaf said while tracing a talon along his wing until found a misaligned feather. As soon as its plucked and cast asside, it grows and glows and transforms into a white-furred tressym that at a thought zips up into the murder hole to check out the area above.
If deemed safe enough, Zaf flies up after, trusting the others to use the rivets well enough to reach the hole. But while waiting on the report, Zaf heals himself up some.

Zaf's tressym looks down through the murder holes into the fortress’s gateway, now blocked by a massive iron plate. Arrow slits provide a view of the plain outside and the fortress’s inner bailey. Two spiral staircases descend to the northwest, and iron doors open out onto the parapets on either side of the gatehouse. Crawling around the plane are two spiders the size of bull elephants.

After a quick peek into the tressym's eyes, Zaf relays his findings to the others. "So, what's the plan if any for us? It may be possible to sneak past these spiders, as it is doubtful they can the use the stairs with effectiveness. Or, are we to go with a more brute force methods? Which.. aside from the tree, has for the most part worked in our favor."He mentions.

What Zaf cannot dodge fully he seems to grasp and condense into a ball just above the palm. "That was certainly a rude greeting." Zaf said after coughing up smoke. "Allow me to answer in kind." The Owlaarakocra said but moments before flying forward aiming to slam the ball into the creature's body, along with some necrotic energy to erode its form.
When it doesn't fall (not that he had much expectations for that), he lands only to snap into a defensive stance soon after.
Meanwhile, the tressym wisely decides to sit out the fight from just below the murderhole.

Jirel would absolutely prefer to climb than fly, happy to get another physical work out. Just like before, she’d have offered to carry any one with her for the trek. She was happy to do so.
At the appearance of the retrievers, the blonde would feel a grumble begin in her throat. She’d tighten the grip on her axe before lashing out against Seras target.
The blonde barbarian would grin with pride as Sera breaks through the beam in spectacular fashion. Though, that wouldn't stop Jirel from taking the opportunity to lash out against her attacker.
