Talinian nods, smiling, not wanting to give away any indication of the information. "That's a fine idea, Bones. Let's discuss it later, when the environment is not so...loud." They were collecting spell books...this made three, or perhaps four.
ooc: Did we ever look at Oron's spell book? Also, during the adventure we found a small book that was magical, radiating enchantment, illusion, necromancy, and evocation magics. What was that?
ooc2: We've found the following spell books, correct? Oron's, Ignon's, and these 2?
(OOC - i had copied a couple of spells from the original, and now headless, Ingon's book but there was a couple that I was unable to copy as they were a level above what I was able to cast. The sealed book has yet to be fully identified and I'm still trying to think of a way to figure that one out. Then there is Raymond's book and the book supplied to him with Talinian's college seal.)
Oron's book yes, you took spells from it. Ignon's book is not exactly a spell book, it's more like a spell scroll, but next level. I'm not sure if you have said "I am looking at it" but I would assume that you and Bones have looked at it. You understand that it works like a spell scroll, but have no idea what exactly it does, nd even if you did the exact way to activate it you are not sure of, even with identify.
You would have a total of 3 the one mentioned above, Raymond's and then the book that is from the school.
At the table Asher would stand and now to Thomas, as would the Dwarf. Before sitting back down in his deep voice he would introduce himself "Throkurd, Kurd for short." After taking his seat he would take a long drink from his mug before starting to talk again. "Master Thomas Asher tells me your a good man, and looking for a head of security. I'm not going to tell you that I'm the most... Qualified person, but what I can tell you is this, with me at your right, if your dead, then I'm dead. I know a few other farm hands who can hold their own in a fight, who are looking to get their hands out of the dirt."
Thomas smile at Lord "Thank you Lord, first please stop calling me master. Now how we move forward is still me finding at least one more guard and a place in the castle for us to all stay. Now tell me about your time here with The Unwanted Blood."
Lord starts to talk about when he was a young man and lived in the world and what brought him here.
As long as the other two don't want to do anything else you are staying in the same house, this time the door is left unlocked and no one trys to keep you in.
Mia enjoyed her evening brawl followed by a few ale and some socializing. Any more, she’d be on the prowl, pushing her luck in a community she barely knows. The silent warrior would politely excuse herself when her companions looked to be ready to leave. She’d return to their staying quarters with them, wondering if the scholars found what they were looking for.
Bones has been eager to leave for a while, and would be noticeably uncomfortable. As everyone gets up to leave and return to their beds for the night, you would see him give a sigh of relief but still remain fidgety.
Ok, so at this point you are all back in the house, at some point in time Maxer stops by, knocks on the door and apologizes for deception he may have given and for his part in locking you up last night. He also congratulates Mia for her win in the fight pit. “I am on shift for the next 8 days, maybe when I have my off night I could meet you there” he offers.
Other than that the rest of the time is yours, I would say currently the time is just around 1 in the morning, it has only been out for about 5 hours since you were picked up and taken to the council meeting. What do you do in the house?
Baltor, please keep an eye on things from the top of the house and let me know if anyone come close to listen, the tiefling wizard instructs his familiar.
To his companions, after he fills them in on his own time away, he says, "I believe we should leave in the morning. I do not believe there is anything left for us to do here and we have already fulfilled our guild contract. We should return for payment and a new assignment." He pauses before continuing. "I believe these vampires can be trusted, for now, but the fact is they are a law unto themselves and we cannot determine which way those laws will drive them. It would be best if we left them alone, though they have inspired me to learn more about them and undead in general." He did not say aloud, even here, that he wanted to find a way to destroy undead, some spell which would unknit the necromantic bindings which made undead. He would begin that research as soon as he could.
"Bones," he said, turning to the fellow wizard, "what did you learn and please tell me about that book from my school. Mia," he says turning back to her, "I also would like to hear about your experiences."
"Not much thus far," Bones shakes his head, "But it appears Raymond was transcribing some spells from the book he attained from someone at your school."
Talinian takes the book and looks it over, leafing through it, sniffing it, thoroughly examining it. He also considers Thomas's presence, what he said, how he said, it how he appeared and sounded when he said it. Looking up at Bones in the middle of his examination, he asks, "Would you please cast the spell of assistance you have? Twice, please. One to help with my recollection and another to assist my...investigation of the tome. I'm trying to figure out...well anything at all."
ooc: Does he recognize anything about the book, the handwriting, the smell of the pages or the ink, anything at all. Assuming Bones agrees to cast the cantrip twice. If not, please ignore the second numbers for each roll.
ooc: I thought about asking for the Guidance after my first post so I added a + [ roll]1d4[ /roll] after each and that's when the warning was added, though I didn't mess with the original roll code at all. The original rolls were INT: 10+4=14 and Investigation 17+6=23, and a plus 1 for each for Guidance.
You do see that the seal is black in color, which you would know means that it is from the Otten Locked Library's Mangus level. The only people allowed to get the books would be a Mangus, and they would not be allowed to take it from the library.
You wouldn’t recognize the handwriting. But there is a second seal on the book, It belongs to Syralth. Syralth was a dragonborn who was a sorcerer, who was not happy with how "weak" he was. He kept looking for more and more power, so he turned to wizards for more knowledge. He was one of the reasons that public opinion of necromancy is negative. There are also lots of rumors that he even had relationships at the end with devils and demons.
Talinian considers what he's learned and recalled and debates if it is appropriate to share with his companions. Then he decides he does not care. Bones found the book and Mia is part of the team. They were entitled to the truth, which he gives them.
Then, "Bones, if you do not mind, I would like to hold onto this book for now and continue to study it. I will likely have to report it to the school. I do not mean to suggest that you should stop studying it yourself, just that I wish to have physical possession of it when you are not actively using it. I may think of something further that I would like to check and it will be easier if I have it to hand. Would that be alright?"
Bones doesn't have anything more he wishes to do here. He has the books that he wishes to study closely and transpose spells from. So he is happy to leave and return home to study and recuperate as soon as Talinian and Mia are.
(Sorry for the delay, been a bit swamped juggling RL and campaigns. I do intend to have Mia respond to Maxer and Talinian after work today. But besides the responses, she wouldn’t have more she’d want to do.)
