"Well, how are we going to pass the week? Unless one of you can help the leather worker with my armor or knows someone who can, I am basically stuck here waiting. As for them in that warehouse, I think it's just a place they decided to hole up in. Too bad we didn't learn anything."

"Maybe ugly man find us with infos, though," said Poinki hopefully, feeling proud of himself. "Lying useful goblin skill, maybe still useful for paladins. Who knew? Poinki planning to hear Archbishop preach sometime while we here, get a better idea about him."

"As long as we apparently never do that again I'm good. It's been much too long apparently, or the gods are laughing in my face at their newest joke." 

Si'Juul crosses his arms and sighs.

"I guess if they have got some sort of agreement with this archbishop maybe we can get some answers from him. But otherwise I don't have much interest in spending the week in temples. Maybe I can talk to that watchmaker gnome. Might be able to do some side work for a bit of extra gold."

“We could also go to the Mayor’s office and ask if there has been any trouble that we can help out with.” 

"That's another good idea, assuming the mayor is the type to bother talking to people like us."

"Is good idea," Poinki agrees. "Make friends, make gold. Both useful."

It doesn't take too long for you all to find the mayor's office and after a bit of cajoling, you get past his assistant, a surly old dwarf. The mayor himself looks to be human, though with a tinge of dwarven blood, judging by the thick brow, large nose and heavy beard. He looks not too pleased to see you and huffs: "What now? If you're with the Brand, Tychos handles all things payment related... and if you're here to complain about the food, well... tough. I wasn't the one inviting you here, so either you get used to it or you're welcome to leave..."

"So you don't like the Black Brand? You would like to see them driven out of town?"

Si'Juul crosses his arms and looks the mayor in the eyes.

Paren shakes his head. "We can't just fight everything. Mr. Mayor, we are not refugees or Brand soldiers. We're here to offer our services to the city. We figured that you would be the person who knows the needs of the city best and could direct our efforts where it would do the most good for your people." 

"Look, we got more than enough of people wanting to do good, they gather at the Citadel. As for adventurers, I don't much care for you and your ilk. The Brand have come here, made Arkos a staging area for their campaigns against the Drow in the south... bah, it's a real pain. Truth be told, we've been on a strange path ever since the archbishop made his call out to the faithful. There's no way around him and his minions anymore, and they are writing the rules for the city. My authority is completely undermined, and with the chaurch buying up property around town, there's no tax income for me anymore either. So, even if you were to do something for me, there's nothing I could give you for your troubles..."

The man seems frustrated and angry, not at you in particular, but at the world in general.

"So the Brand strongarmed their way into town and the archbishop essentially bought them as his own personal militia to take over the town. Tell you what, mayor, if you can help us get rid of the Brand by directing us to those who you know we can trust, beyond those at the Citadel, grant us immunity from having to, shall we say, defend ourselves in town should they make it come to that, and if you do we can wave the fee."

The mayor's nostrils flare in anger: "Look, as much as I despise what is going on here, I am still the embodiment of the law here, however much that may count! Under no circumstances do I want to turn my city into a bloodbath!" Seeing your apologetic faces, he recovers a bit. "There are some that grumble, but the archbishop is much beloved in the town, or at least used to be. And while I'm sure the citizens might feel differently about the mercenaries strutting around, I don't want you to cause any trouble here. Now if you want to make use of your weapons for good, then there's always the city watch, or what's left of it anyway. Garnolf is a good man, he'll hear you out and might have something to do. You can find him by the watch post near the northern gate."
