This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The Champion please make a DC12 Wisdom saving throw for when you touch the sceptre. If you fail, you start to feel a hunger grip you and vile thoughts creep into your mind - but potentially only for a moment because:
As soon as The Champion pulls the sceptre out and the item's eyes start looking around the room, Faendal leaps towards The Champion at an impressive speed, and tries to swat the item into the chest, a look of horror on his face as he shouts "NO! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE??"
His "attack" roll to swat the sceptre out of your hand into the open chest is 13 contested by your athletics or acrobatics (your choice), unless you let him swat the item into a chest. I'm going to say that on a natural 20 he succeeds either way and sceptre spends less than a second looking around the room.
Faendal looks very panicked, starts waving his hands around and muttering arcane words, as he pulls out a miniature portal carved from ivory, a small piece of polished marble, and a tiny silver spoon unless anyone tries to stop him:
He finishes a spell and a shimmering door appears, he yells "You are welcome to come into my extradimensional mansion or leave my shop, but you cannot stay here and I suggest you hide yourselves. You do not understand the evil you have invited into my space."
Unless anyone tries to stop him, he then casts another spell and the shop starts to shift around, becoming a different shape, the walls a different colour, the table changing to a bench etc. before he ducks into the shimmering door with the chest, leaving it open for anyone who wants to follow him.
"Vin..." Aliez cries out as he raises the scepter. As the champion moves through the portal, Aliez follows. Before she enters the portal, she casts mage hand and closes the chest.
She will also cast detect thoughts before entering the portal.
[I just realised that the spell involving a miniature portal carved from ivory, a small piece of polished marble, and a tiny silver spoon takes longer to cast. As such Faendal would not have said "extradimensional mansion" he would have said "Demiplane" and the door would have been shadowy rather than shimmering. You can reconsider stepping through if you would like.]
Any of you that step through the shadowy door find yourselves in a wooden room that is 30 ft in each dimension, which is half filled with trinkets, folded pieces of paper and boxes.
The small winged creature has followed Faendal into the room and motions for you all to wait.
Faendal is on the ground crouched over the chest and casting some sort of spell. As he finishes it, he quickly opens the chest, sprinkles some glittering dust over the sceptre and slams it shut again. He then starts performing another spell with the miniature portal carved from ivory, a small piece of polished marble, and tiny silver spoon he pulled out earlier. [You can try to stop him if you would like.]
Kenton, you do not detect any celestial, fiend, or undead, though great evil does emanate from the sceptre's general direction until Faendal finishes his spell. After he finishes the spell you do not detect anything.
Aliez, your mage hand helped shut the chest extra fast after the sceptre was swatted into the chest, though Faendal was also shutting the chest. For the other spell:
Assuming you are aiming it at Faendal, you find yourself unable to target him. From your training, you are aware that there are spells that hide people (and items) from divination magic.
Beatrice will back up to follow everyone else through the door, her axe still readied in case anything tries to attack them as they walk through the door.
The creature with the leathery wings puts its hands up again in a 'wait' motion and Faendal shoots you a sideways 'I'm busy' glance.
Faendal continues casting his spell. The spell takes a minute total, so you will have had 10 rounds to do something. If nobody interrupts Faendal in that time:
Faendal finishes casting his spell and now a shimmering doorway appears. Faendal calls out "We should already be safe here" gesturing to the small wooden room you were all in already "however, one can never be too careful, so I for one am going in here" and he points through the shimmering doorway. "You are all welcome to follow or leave. Just be aware that the door behind you" he gestures to the shadowy door you all stepped through to get to this room "will disappear within the hour. I do not know how you have become entangled with ancient gods from other planes of existence, but from what I have heard of you" and he looks at Oden when he says this next part "and because of your heritage, I am trusting you are not pro-Dajobas."
When you were a young child, the older kids would tell scary stories. These included about a giant shark creature Dajobas, that would eat young children if they didn't do certain things (share their toys, hand over their lunch etc.).
You asked your parents about it once and they told you that Dajobas wasn't real and that those kids were just trying to scare you. You have not heard of Dajobas since then.

Watching the exchange until now, Oden tenses, hand on Nénmacil.

Oden crouches ready to leap, Nénmacil in hand.
"Your move, Vincent!"
If The Champion tries to stop Faendal, Oden will Help.
Beatrice will also ready her axe, looking around warily. "Are we following him or are we fighting?"

Vincent is at his wits end with these... people and starts to raise the scepter to strike at them all when the Wizard makes his move.

The scepter is slapped from his hand and into the chest, The Champion returning to himself. As the portal appears, the Champion follows and enters it.

Oden follows through the portal.
Kenton hesitates for a moment, using a Divine Sense, and then prepares to follow through the portal.

Trusting The Champion to know how best to deal with this, Oden stands ready to help. He looks around the room for anything threatening.

The Champion looks at the others with a hand up cautioning them. “Explain Faendal!”

((Does Oden know who Dajobas is? Religion/History 19))
Oden, I’ll need you to also roll a d100.

[Think Bloody Mary/Slenderman type stories.]
((If no one stops Faendal...))
Oden frowns thinking "Surely he wouldn't jest in a moment like this." Insight: 7
He is dead serious.
