Kenton will go to Jaxon first, as early as possible. If it works out that they can do both, then great, but otherwise he will wish his comrades well and head to the Brand estate to make his report. He feels a bit down - he has much to report, but little that will bring hope to a worried father.
Dajarkal indicates that she thinks that having a Concord representative at the meeting with Jaxon is a good idea. As such (unless anyone disagrees) you all start following Kenton, who leads you about five to ten minutes east out of Port Damali proper.
[In relation to the Kobolds I will say that if anyone wants to stop The Champion from turning them in for the moment, you can leave them in the care of Beorth below deck (still tied up with the high roll Kenton made) until your morning meeting(s) are done. You can then discuss options after the Jaxon Brand meeting.]
As you walk out of the main town, you start to see a number of large houses and mansions, and are led by Kenton towards the most impressive one - a large white manse with the Zephyr Assimilated sign (a stylized sloop riding a gust of wind) at the gate. The guard at the gate seems to recognise Kenton as he approaches and says something, though it is not directed at you.
Anyone that makes a DC18 perception check hears him say:
"Front gate to Jelvis. I have an individual matching Mr Tomsen's description and a party of four others matching the description of some of his crew approaching the Estate. Please disable the front defences and await our approach to the front door."
The guard opens the gate and silently leads you along the magnolia tree-lined path of pea gravel wide towards the main mansion. The mansion is a sprawling affair, two stories tall, with a broad, open-air veranda on the front. You are met at the front door by liveried servant, who takes you into and through the house, passing a variety of well-appointed rooms. He takes you all the way to the back of the house and into an open-air study that faces an elaborate and well-sculpted walking garden full of brightly blooming shrubs, flowers, and trees. The back wall of the room that faces the gardens is comprised of hinged panel doors that can apparently be closed in inclement weather.
The room itself contains an imposing desk made of some sort of lacquered dark wood, walls covered with charts and maps of many places that you do not immediately recognise (unless any of you have travelled extensively in Tal’Dorei and Marquet in your background and I have forgotten about it), a large table covered with yet more maps and papers, and a set of more casual furniture made of wicker that is arrayed to face the gardens.
There are two individual in this room, one of who Kenton recognises as Jaxon Brand, who looks at you all with a mixture of relief and hope as you are led into the room.
I will get the other individual to introduce themselves.
Gumerawan regarded the folks entering with an easy smile, they looked capable as Jaxon had said....
A large woman with well muscled arms and broad hips and shoulders, she was dressed in a light flowing blue cotton quadrille dress with a lot of patching. Her skin was a deep blue-black and her hair a mass of braids that framed a wide generous face with a full lipped mouth and sparkling green eyes.
She lean't on a carved staff that showed marks of frequent use and her hair and skin were dappled with tiny drops of water as if she had just stepped out of the rain, there was a slightly troubled look in her eye but she smiled broadly at any who met her gaze.
She seemed to be waiting for Jaxon to introduce her before she spoke....
Jaxon greets Kenton in a way more familiar than most of you would expect an employer to greet an employee (and likely in more familiar manner than Kenton was expecting).
He initially goes in for a hug, but changes to a handshake at the last minute (with his other hand on Kenton's shoulder), saying, "Thank Kord you are alive. I was deeply saddened when it became apparent that another one of my crews was lost at sea, so I am glad that at least you and Firische survived the sea-devil attack on the Boreas. One of my contacts at the Concord [and he nods at Dajarkal, making clear he knows that she is a Concord agent] relayed what happened to the Boreas, as well as letting me know that you have joined up with the group that rescued the good people of Flora Isle [he nods at the rest of you], and that you even managed to find and take back the Eurus. For that I owe you thanks, though I trust that you are still willing to help me find Elisa, and on that I have news that has brought hope back to my heart. Please meet a member of Elisa's crew from the Zephyr, Gumerawan."
Kenton approaches Jaxon with an air of respect, but sadness that he cannot give this man much good news. The handshake is warm. Sir, you are gracious as always, and I wish I had better news for you. These brave warriors and I have struck a blow against an enemy of this city, and we will gladly tell you all that has happened. But yes, the Boreas and her crew are lost, and I have no news of Elisa to give you - the attack came before we could begin our search in earnest. Of course I remain in your service, sir, please have no doubt of that.
Kenton turns and gestures to the others in the party. Friends, this is Master Jaxon Brand, whom it is my honour to serve. I would not take it upon myself to introduce you, so please speak freely.
Gumerawan waited for Kenton to finish speaking then stepped forward.
" Dat be me indeed."
" Now as ye know The Zephyr was captained by Elisa Brand, Jaxons daughter. And I must say, wit no arse-kissing intended, she is genuinely the best captain and sexie...smartest person you have ever met."
" Now two mon' back, we were on a run from Marquet and Tal’Dorei on da way back to Port Damali when we ran into a lit'trouble."
" T'was a stormy night, 'bout a day o' two from Bisaft Isle, the bosun of the ship sounded the alarm."
" Large as life we sees one dem sea-debbils, standing on the waves...blue robes and sceptre an' all...she tip the ship an we all go in the drink....and we weren't alone. Theres a whole mess o' sea-debbils there and sharks to boot an' they make short work of those of us who ain't got the gift o' the waves."
" But the weird t'ing be, they not killin' as much they ought....being what they are....then I see em putting folks inside these Man-o-War type critters...and taken em off."
" Then I get knocked 'bout hed meself an didn' wake for a long, long tid."
She looked around at them sadly.
" Anyway, I'm sleepin' an' in my dream I see a lot o' crazy t'ing but at the last Marzannaa says to me:
"There is an opportunity. Go now, get help. Stop the Devourer of Worlds".
" So I wakes up in a great mess o' pain an' I see we're in a cavern with eight of them jelly-balloon things, each wit' t'ree to five bodies in them. but t'ey sleepin' like me no' ded. Alla crew are t'ere, and a buncha ot'ers."
" I'm about ta start panickin' when Eliza appears and starts cuttin' us out...."
" She cuts us free and gets some more folk out, then a whole other mess o' sea-debbils come in and she tells me to take the others and run."
" I'm no' one to disobey my captain....even if it pained me breast somet'ing fearful."
" We swim up an' find ourselves in debbil central, biggest damn city I ever seen...one o' t'others....seemed kinda like t'e way me Mama described me Pappy...he leads us a secret way through the trash an we follow through....though not all make it...."
" We get clear final an' he says we in t'e Endless Sea an' a long way from Exandria indeed....."
" He say his name be Kzanto. He say Eliza will be safe for a bit but t'ere will be a ceremonywhere she and t'others will be sacrificed in a ritual to release t'e debbils god Dajobas the Devourer from its binds. He saying if we go t'ere to save her he be helpin'."
" I left rest o' crew t'ere wit' him an his kin an he took me place where I can come here back."
" An dis be the second tim' I tol' dis tale."
She leant on her staff heavily and stared at the group with harrowed eyes.
Kenton turns and gestures to the others in the party. Friends, this is Master Jaxon Brand, whom it is my honour to serve. I would not take it upon myself to introduce you, so please speak freely.
Oden nods: "I am Oden. Kenton speaks highly of you, it's a pleasure to finally meet you, Mister Brand."
((Welcome, Damian_May!))
Gumerawan sees a tall and thin elf with a mop of tangled dark blue hair, his skin is a light silvery blue with a pattern on green horizontal bands half an inch thick barely visible. He wears simple clothes under studded leather, carries a backpack with a wood and leather shield attached to it, longbow and quiver of arrows, and a shortsword at his hip, and a piece of branching coral, roughly T shaped put through his belt.
"Thank you for retelling the events, Gumerawan. I'm sorry for what happened to your crewmates. We do hope to bring an end to Dajobas' cult and this is a valuable lead. I only hope we can find them in time to save Elisa and whoever else they took."
Jaxon says to Oden and the rest of the party "well if stopping the cult of these sea devils is your goal already, then it appears our goals are aligned. I desperately want my daughter back, but from what Gumerawan told me, Elisa was not captured when the ship was attacked just off Bisaft Isle. Eliza was only captured because she followed these vile creatures to their city on the Elemental Plane of Water after avoiding capture, to try to stop their plans and free her crew and the other captives the sea devils had taken.
Even if I were to just send you on a mission to free my daughter, it is likely she would not leave until the threat was taken care of. As such, I have a proposal for you. I will fund your quest to stop these sea devils. I will provide you with a ship built for protecting high value cargo and for battle- The Z.A. Bounty, as well as a crew to sail it and supplies for the journey. The ship and crew will only really be useful on this plane, though it should help in the case of any further sea devil attacks. It is not quite as fast as the cogs or caravels that we use for transporting trade goods, nor does it hold much cargo, though it will get you where you need to go on these oceans alive.
If you are able to bring back my daughter alive, I will pay you what you want - within reason. Name your price and I will discuss it with you. I will also pay you 200 gold for each captured crewmember from The Zephyr you bring back alive AND pay you 3,000 gold if you are able to return without any casualties from the crew of The Bounty."
Gumerawan waved her hands at Jaxon, " No need t'be payin' me, Boss. I gotta go get tha' lady, no matter or how be."
She winked at Beatrice, " Though...we's need to get some meat on this Oden fella, straight up. Not enough meat on t'ose bones....feel like I would be breakin' him well in half if we were to get to snugglin'."
She nodded around the room to the others, " Bountys a good ship....great ship, an' no lie."
[Nobody needs to take a reward, though if someone is wanting to negotiate a reward and wants to know what is reasonable, they can give me an insight check.]
Beatrice grins back at Gumerawan, winking and waving at her. Gumerawan would see a very short but muscular gnome, with light brown skin, reddish brown eyes that crinkle up when she smiles, with black and green hair pulled into two low braided buns either side of her head, with a large axe strapped to her back.
She turns to Jaxon. "How well armed is this ship? We captured a couple of kobolds on the way over who are connected to the sea-devils, and they say that the sea-devils are extremely well armed, so we need something to be able to stand up to that."
[Beatrice will not ask for a reward at this time, as she is currently holding more money than she has ever seen in her life and doesn't really know how to feel about it]
Kenton also shakes his head at the suggestion of a reward. He gives a short bow to Gumerawan. Well met, friend. I look forward to working with you; you seem most capable.
(Kenton is a tall, well-built and fairly handsome, though rather inexperienced human wearing heavy armour. He appears to be trying to imitate the appearance and manner of a noble knight from a story, with moderate success.)
The invisible ship the kobolds spoke of is a menace, and it is not too far from Port Damali. I agree that it should be our first target. If possible, we should aim to capture the devil that commands it, to learn more of these fiends and their plans.
“I think we need to be on even footing to try to attack that ship. Faendal’s ship should be the priority.” The Champion is a tall, and robust looking human. He has the lean look of a fighter, and a nearly militant appearance, with his chain shirt and the simple, ugly, effective war pick at his belt. He has rather anonymous features. A chin without prominence. Eyes of ordinary brown. Hair of medium brown and looks like he cuts it himself, although it’s not bad. He wears a heavy satchel at his hip from over his shoulder, and has a curious cameo necklace. His shield looks a bit dinged up. A couple spears rest in a twist of his belt near to an odd pouch that jingles with an unusual echoing sound.
Jaxon indicates "I have not seen a ship more well armed that is privately owned, and it cost ZA a literal fortune. It has two ballistas, two mangonels, two cannons and two arcane cannons, each perfectly placed for balance. More importantly, it is built to take a hit and keep floating."
[OOC: I will need whoever is willing to hold onto Faendal's amulet to make a d100 roll each full day that you are out on the open sea. It may take as little as two days, or the whole campaign for the underwater-ship to locate you/for you to locate the ship.
Minor spoiler on how I'm figuring out when that will be:
If you roll 0 - 80 on the d100 Faendal's ship is out of range.
81 through 90 - Faendal's ship is within range and locks onto the amulet - roll a d20 and that is the number of days until it is directly underneath your ship,
91 through 95 - as above but with a d12,
96 through 98 - as above but with a d10,
99 - as above but with a d6,
100 - as above but with a d4.
If there is a lock, you can reduce the number of days until you 'intercept' Faendal's mini-submarine by passing an Arcana check on the amulet to figure out what direction the vessel-link is coming from.
Jaxon nods at Gumerawan and says, "I am all for you setting off straight away if there is nothing else you need in town and you are ready for the journey, though I understand if there are other matter some of you need to attend to." Jaxon offers to accompany you to the docks and answer any other questions/to continue the conversation whilst showing you The Bounty and introducing you to her crew. He indicates that it is a short walk to the docks, though he is happy to organise a carriage if anyone wants it. A security team follows Jaxon as he leaves and he rolls his eyes and says, "it was only a decade or two ago that I was off adventuring as captain of the Zephyr, now I'm not even allowed to travel to the docks without a security team."
Let me know what if there is anything else you want to ask/tell/negotiate with Jaxon on the way (or before even before leaving the estate). If not, I'll pick up at the docks with a description and picture of The Bounty.
If we're hitting the shops, Oden would want to sell the gems (worth 1000gp) they got as a reward and split the coins. He would be on the lookout for items that boost one's defense and arrows to refill his quiver.

The Champion actually has a shopping list if possible before we head out?
- components for augury , continual flame , and warding bond
- healing potions
- anything to help out with underwater stuff
New city, new stuff? Maybe? Not looking to drag stuff out here, though
