Eonis twitches uncomfortably, clearly nonplussed with splitting the group, but she sees that the group is determined. “Is there no way I can convince all of you of the tactical benefits of staying together as a group in the event of ambush or unexpected confrontation? Please, I assure you, a lone individual is much more vulnerable than a group of four to six.”
She waits, with a glimmer of hope, until she sees the elf Druid’s clear resolve to act alone, her intuition making that clear. “If you are entirely determined, I suppose Arnald and I can consult with the Order of the Gauntlet for guidance. But I would strongly recommend we all travel together to each contact point. It might slow our progress, but not nearly so much as the potential delay if one of us should become injured, or killed.”
""Contacts" do not like unwanted attention and would not talk in the presence of a rival faction. Not sure it is mentioned in your theory books about warfare, but trust me on that."Smiled Ola before disappearing into the streets. "Do not worry, Phlan is not under attack yet, you can relatively safely walk around. See you all later." With that Ola departed.
Eonis will head to consult with the Order of the Gauntlet, suggesting Arnald and she go together. She is still uneasy, clearly, but realizes there is no convincing others to share her specific, eccentric concerns.
"Theory is one thing Eonis but practicality is another. If we grouped up and visited each of these places a group, regardless of if they would talk to us or not. We'd be traversing the whole city a few times and loose out on the precious time we do have. Sometimes you have to take the risk," Uragum says and punches his fist into the palm of his hand as he finishes. "I'm going to head to a pub by docks. See if I can get anything from the sailors that travel out that way." With that he then begins heading towards the docks to see if he can find a pub.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: I'll assume Arnald is heading out with Eonis as suggested.

However, reports of undead, even rumors, always make me nervous. Check in with Dornal Whitebeard. He is staying at the Velvet Doublet, and should be easy to find; he's a rather gregarious hill dwarf, and has been outside of Phlan recently. He will likely be of more help than I," he says.

OOC: The pub at the docks is actually The Laughing Goblin, where the party is staying.
You walk with Sylyra to the docks, though the druid doesn't stick around long. It is not a busy day at Phlan's docks, but you find a few dockworkers and sailors within the tavern eating lunch. Most of what you learn over the next hour is nothing new; most of the sailors have heard the rumors of some sort of ghost ship, and some claim to have seen it, though their description of what it looked like varies wildly from one to the next. None have any knowledge of a group or cult that sails the area. "Phlan's waters only carry those that ain't got nothin' better to do. All the interesting stuff happens in the Sea o' Swords, near Baldur's Gate or Waterdeep."
The sailors do not know much about the Iron Route, the trading road by land, but you do learn of the location of a few small hamlets near the coast (matching the description of the destroyed settlements Aleyd spoke of) and a small fishing village on a tiny island a short distance into the Stormy Bay that a recent arrival in Phlan claims did not look destroyed.
Sylyra greets the woman warmly and then wanders around a bit, looking at what the shop offers. "What a lovely shop," he says. "It reminds me of The Curious Past in Waterdeep." He glances at the woman. "Have you ever been there? To Waterdeep?"
-- after that conversation --
Sylyra approaches the woman. "I am working with the priests out at the Valhingen Graveyard concerning some possible danger heading this way. A man from another village wandered into town babbling on about a dracolich. Multiple villages along the coast have been leveled, and we've also heard rumors of a ghost ship. Have you heard anything yourself?"
Eonis greets Zern with a proper polite greeting for the Order. “Yes, Arnald and I are certainly functioning together in the same adventuring company,” Eonis says opaquely. “The group has elected to... to split apart... to consult as many as they can on a matter we are investigating. We received reports of attacks on nearby villages, a pattern of...” Eonis summarizes the information received from the clerics of Kelemvor in perhaps too much detail “...and we wanted to bring this information to you, to see if the Order’s resources might give us additional insight into the cause behind these attacks, and how to stop them. One of our group opined the attacks could be linked to the cycles of the moons.”
Ola thanked Brother Keefe, and without complains walked now all the way to the festhall. She though for a moment to turn to the "Goblin" for the promised horse, but it was unlikely the horses were already there, so, she simply enjoyed the walk to The Velvet Doublet.
Zern's smile disappears, and suddenly the boisterous half-orc is replaced by a stern and stoic commander. He purses his lips, hard in thought as he digests Eonis's information. "We have been concerned with the history of fell cults in the Moonsea for some time. To most, that threat is considered over, but I wonder..." he pauses, flipping his axe up to grab it by the side of the blades. "One you can take my hand axe. It is silvered, useful for decapitating vampires and fiends from the lower hells. If there is something more infernal to these rumors then this should prove useful to you," he offers.
Once someone takes the axe, he orders, "Stay fast on your mission. Take the silver axe and see if you can find proof of infernal cults along the way. Destroy any undead or fiends that you encounter in the course of your duties and bring me proof of undead or infernal corruption."

Glass breaking accompanies the sound of cheering from the inside of the Velvet Doublet, apparently a raucous feasthall judging by the fact that it is still the late afternoon. There are a few dwarves within, but only one matching the description given for Dornal Whitebeard. At the time, he is drinking with a human man and woman, armed like soldiers, laughing uproariously over the din of the tavern.

SYLYRA:
"Why thank you," Delacrae responds. "I visited Waterdeep once, when I was very young. I'd like to make a trip someday, but I've always preferred my work in the indoors to the dirt and grime of travel. I'm sure it is a beautiful city, though."
She has a look of surprise at the bluntness of the questioning. "No, I...haven't heard anything of the sort, but my work is in the line of research, not rumor. It sounds like you have a number of leads I could look into, though. Our cost is not great, dependent on the information requested and how long it will take to find. What can I help you learn? Of course, any more information you can give me will help lessen the time I need to spend," she says.
Ignoring the noise and the merry laughter, Ola walked to the table where the dwarf matching description was sitting. "Dornal Whitebeard? Good day to you. Brother Keefe directed me here." She paused, letting information to sink while politely smiling to the dwarf."He said you might be aware - or like to be aware - of the resent events around Phlan. Would you have time to discuss it now?"
Judging the age of the proprietor to be quite high, Sylyra determines her visit as a small child would have predated his family's rise to power in the City of Splendors. He attempts to hide his disappointment that, once again, his name will garner no advantage in this far-away town. "Yes," he almost mumbles, "beautiful."
After her offer to provide information, the druid gets down to business. "I feel a map would be beneficial. I have been told that a number of communities and solitary farms have been destroyed along the coast heading this way. There is no discernible pattern, but marking the places and times on a map may reveal something as of yet unnoticed. The danger is coming from the southwest, so a map of the western coast of the Moonsea, perhaps?"
Eonis accepts the silvered Hand Axe from Zern, for now. "My thanks. We could run across such creatures, and having a means to inflict damage would be of much use."
"You mentioned The Order has dealt with fell cults in this region in the past. Is it possible one of them has resurfaced? The witness made mention of a dracolich, I believe, and there are also rumors of a ghost ship. Given that the attacks involve mass killing without looting or any clear military tactical advantage, it's possible they could be done as part of some necromancy ritual. It certainly could be the return of some cult, thought to be wiped out, that was biding its time and rebuilding its forces."
"The axe is a great contribution towards our success in this matter. If you have information as well, or suggestions or where we might find more, that would also be of value. If not, we will be on our way, for now."
Arnald nods to Eonis, "Mention of a dracolich, cycles of the moon, and the man who was driven mad. This does have the feel of a cult to it. Silver weapons is a good idea. The axe will serve your far better than me but I wonder if I could find some silver tipped arrows in town?"
Arnald nods to Eonis, "Mention of a dracolich, cycles of the moon, and the man who was driven mad. This does have the feel of a cult to it. Silver weapons is a good idea. The axe will serve your far better than me but I wonder if I could find some silver tipped arrows in town?"
"That is a very good idea, Arnald," Eonis says. "Likely costly, most certaintly, but if we do run up against lycanthropes and the like it could be the difference between life and death."
Zern nods, "It could very well be the case. I do not have any further information for you. The two of you are our eyes and ears for the situation."
The half-orc warns Arnald, "Silvered arrows would be valuable in more ways than one. They could certainly help, but you'll be paying ten gold pieces for an arrow. And, uh..." his eyes move back to the hand axe in Eonis's grip, "I do like that axe. Bring it back in one piece, please."

Delacrae places a fist over her lips, thinking as she listens. "A map of the region will be more difficult than you probably think, but as long as you know the general location of these communities, then I can certainly work something together for you. Most of the maps that we do have are not up to date; many of the settlements in the region only appear on specific maps...newer maps, and we don't have a thriving population of cartographers in Phlan, I'm afraid. I'd say something like that might take...oh, I'd say if you come back in about five hours, I'll have a map for you, as up to date as I can get it, and I'll see about finding a pattern if I'm able."
She runs some numbers mentally, thinking ahead of her own words. "Two silver pieces would do it. That's a little lower than our usual rate, but you are a new customer, after all, and much more polite than the usual adventuring type. Usually there's a lot more bluster and impatience involved," she chuckles.
Dwarves. And the still mostly dwarven town, reminded herself Ola, and sat at the table. "My name is Ola do Mari. Me, and and my companions are helping Doomguide Yovir to investigate resent attacks on villages around Phlan, and hopefully prevent the new one. Have you heard anything about it?"
Sylyra places a gold piece on the counter. "This is an investment I'd like to make," he explains, looking stoic. "And I'm afraid it might be a little more difficult than just mapping locations. We only know this:" And he summarizes, "Two days ago, an unnamed village to the southwest. Six days ago, Vig's Dock. Ten days ago, a collection of farm houses. Fourteen days, the Aleston brewery." He pauses again. "I will understand if you need more time, but the sooner, the better."
Arnald winces at Zern's words about the cost of silvered arrows. "Ouch. Well, maybe only one or two then? Just in case."
Looking to Eonis, "Would you like to come with me to purchases a couple of overpriced arrows?"
"Certainly," Eonis answers. "I would have preferred we all stay together, I certainly see no value in splitting our little group within a group needlessly. Let's go look for silvered weaponry for you, and then determine our next course from there. Perhaps one of the others will have a lead for us."
OOC: Ten pieces of ammunition can be silvered for 100 gp (each arrow costs 10 gp to silver). Let me know how many Arnald would like.
Is there anything else the two of you wish to do before returning to The Laughing Goblin?
