You do spot Leto, several of the redcloaks, and two of the bugbears. One of the bugbears is unconscious, while the other, the female one you know is Montru, is bound with ropes and staring daggers at everyone.
Latrius, Kierro, and Naivara
The mage nods to you all in greeting. "As agreed, any item specificly sought will be given over." He moves to his tent and comes back. In his hands are two shortswords, a silver raven, a large gemstone, and a broom.
As he comes back he sees Mylene up and mobile. "Good lady, glad to see you on your feet once more." He says in greeting. "It seems I have what I needed in trade now, so you are free to take which ever of these belongs to you, or at least that which you came here seeking."
Mylene is drawn to the broom. Latrius is drawn to one of the two shortswords. Kierro is drawn to the large gemstone. Naivara is drawn to the silver falcon.
Mylene pushes a chunk of now frizzy, singed blond hair from her face, and tries to curtsy to Kierro, lowering her head as she does. She leans a hand on Walter mid curtsy attempt, and sighs, and instead says in the same flat, half-lucid tone, as it talking in her sleep "Thank you, Kierro. I awoke in a world of chaos and madness, full of wild beasts in the skin of woman and man, but you always seemed to have an actual capacity for reason. One of the good ones..." She tastes ash on her tongue, and covers her mouth, spitting into her palm as demurely as one can do such a thing, trying to clear her mouth to speak. She stares at her palm and mutters, "And that... was part of my tongue. I'll try to keep my mouth closed next time I explode."
Honor stares at Mylene, trying to figure out if she's sincere or putting on some kind of show. Madness, or a bid for pity? Insight check: 7.
It’s clear enough that there’s an element of theatricality to Mylene’s display of pain, but it combines with truth in this case. She seems to instinctually present herself as a noblewoman in duress, but the ugly and unflattering nature of her injuries and her mental state is less flowery, indicative of real pain and confusion. Likewise her anger and sorrow over the fallen Redbrands rings true, although this may be the remorse of one who had lost valuable property rather than genuine human empathy.
Her tone of concern for Leto was different, more raw and primal, as if she does have genuine feelings beyond that of a chattel owner disappointed in the loss of chattel, but concerned for someone meaningful to her. That, and the displays of personal weakness and frustration, are probably the most human expressions of emotion Honor or any of the others have seen from Mylene.
Her confusion and disorientation are real, as is her pain, but she seems to be struggling to collect herself and recover from both.
"Your... tongue?" Naivara asks hesitantly, "That's... not good... how did Tessa cause all this?"
“It had to have been. It’s the only ration... logic... the only thing that makes sense. It looks like she’s paid for her treachery this time, though. Some small justice in an unjust world,” Mylene says to Naivara.
To Kost she deeply inclines her head in a gesture of deference. “My thanks, Master Kost. The... broom... how odd. The broom calls to me.” She smiles crookedly, and tries to cover her mouth and laugh one of her trademark high pitched laughs, and ends up coughing during the third “ha.” “Perhaps I was not so noble, if I did my own sweeping. Ha,” she says flatly, as laughing proved to be a bad idea given her soot filled lungs.
Mylene's eyes go wide and she reacts with a startled leap backwards, skidding on the ground on her backside, as she clutches the broom. "The world... I remember the world."
Laughing, Sylcan pokes at Mylene light-heartedly. "Well now, you have an opportunity to do so. Just cough a bit more, and you can sweep to your heart's content."
Mylene's theatrics did not interest Vilana (and certainly were not directed at her) so, she did not participated philosophical discussion about justice of the world, but instead approached Kierro: "Glad we all could recover a bit more of ourselves. Can I ask you about that business you had in Conyberry? What was it, exactly?"
After making sure Leto is up and walking, Kierro turns to Vilana. "I'd love to tell you. There's some more things, in addition to the memories of the world we used to live in, that I want to share with everyone. But not here - now that we've found the items that call to us, we should return to Phandalin. Once we're there, perhaps in the inn, we can discuss everything. For now, we need to help up those from Mylene's crew that are still alive, gather Tessa's and the other redbrands' bodies, and get moving."
As the group of you reunite Hamun climbs down into the area of the cache and finds some writing scrawled into a stone along one side of the previously-hidden area. He speaks some words of magic and can be seen reading the ancient writing to himself.
Mylene, there is one item you can still sense has a familiar sense to it, and you know that this must be Leto's item. It is the rune-carved rod. Do you do anything about this?
Sivil, a slender woman with auburn hair and an athletic build, wakes up only moments after Mylene. She stays back from the zombies and pulls some scraps of food from her pocket, the food somewhat singed, but she eats it anyway.
Walter stays close to Mylene, lending her his hand for support as needed.
Hezra shoots Mylene some glares, and moves over towards Sylcan. "Sorry for my response earlier." She tells Sylcan. "I just lost someone I cared for, more than I would like to admit... "I think I will be needing some new employment though, as Brun is gone, so would you be willing to let me travel with you?"
Higgul stays near Honor, taking it all in, but keeping his mouth shut.
"And why would you need bandit's bodies? The wizard does not mind them laying around. Or do you mean to give them to the citizens of Phandalin so they could put on display as a warning or something?" She shook her head, "Never mind, if you need the bodies, it's your business. But I have no intentions of getting back to Phandalin. Just wanted to ask if there in Coniberry you heard anything about a banshee, that's all."
"...call it a gut-feeling. Her body can't do anything, we'll bury it. Besides, it's distasteful just to let it rot in the wilderness. We'll lay her to rest; same with the fallen redbrands."
He sighs. "I don't know. If you don't want them brought back to Phandalin, then I can't force that on you; we'll leave them here then."
"As for Conyberry, we were asked by Sister Garaele, a priestess back in Phandalin, to ask the banshee near Conyberry about a mage's spellbook."
"I'm still not keen on traveling with Mylene and her lot," Honor says quietly to Naivara, Vilana, and the others. "But if the wizard is allowing us to bury Tessa's body rather than using it as another undead servant, I think we should retrieve it before he changes his mind -- though we should bury it somewhere where it can't be retrieved later."
"And you are saying we knew each other well and even were friends? Interesting, never pictured myself caring about bandits. But never mind that. So, you saw the banshee? And even were sent to her with a question... Is it difficult to find her there? Seems like this is someone, to whom people around here come with questions. I might have a few of my own."
"That's definitely something, as well." Kierro says after Honor speaks. "The last thing we want is for them to be turned to undead, where they can continue to hurt others even after they've passed."
To Vilana, he replies. "Not difficult, no. Just a few hours out from Conyberry. Though she won't answer anything if you're threatening or disrespectful, from what I've seen." He tells her about the banshee's house, what it looks like, and how to get there from Conyberry.
