We'll go out of combat order for a bit, as it makes little sense to keep it up, now that I have the relative placements. Also, Kierro is not that far away, so it won't matter overly much worrying about his exact placement. If it had been miles instead of just a few hundred feet, then it would have been a bigger issue.
The massive form of the ancient bronze breaks free of the storm clouds, having swooped past the castle and then climbed out of the clouds to fly up behind the flying castle. As she breaks free of the clouds Maril is there, trumpeting her greeting to the bronze. She is also the first to realize there is a person riding the dragon, a goliath holding a rune-carved staff in one hand. The goliath speaks a word of magic and the dragon, with its rider, disappeared, then appeared 90 feet further along, up closer to the castle.
As the outriders rush back, and Yuno, atop the orange dragon, swoops under the castle towards where the bronze just soared up behind the castle, the ancient dragon swoops in to land atop the main keep. The bronze's head swivels from side to side, taking in the various dragons scrabbling around. The ancient dragon, and its rider, wait there as everyone closes in, waiting and watching.
Maril flies with her dragon towards the bronze and the rider. “another dragon lord, perhaps? But on an ancient Bronze? It may be a match for all of us if their intentions aren’t peaceful”. She telepathically communicates to her amethyst dragon.
Yuno is getting pretty annoyed with this bronze that keeps trying to evade all of them. She is now hoping the goliath is not friendly just so she has an excuse to try and beat him up.
Emmy was just going to keep flying around, but when the dragon gets closer, and she can see that it has a rider, she'll move to pick up Honor, and move closer. "I'm Emmy," she adds, inspecting the dragon and rider to see if anything about them or their gear looks familiar, or can give her a hint as to where they're from.
"Her name is Kheraallothoathosz." Sharot says, flying in close to Kierro. Sharot gives a formal bow to the ancient bronze. "Ancient one, what do we owe this honor?"
Kheraallothoathosz remains silent, while the huge form of the goliath on ehr back continues to look around.
"The wizard riding Kheraallothoathosz is Patham Stormrunner Gathakalathi, an archmage that has a deep friendship with her." Chysen informs Kierro as the gold dragon reverts to his humanoid form and gives a formal bow of his own towards the bronze.
After a couple moments, as more of the dragonlords arrive, Kheraallothoathosz addresses the assembled. "You are on a direct path for Waterdeep, and I have been sent to make sure you do not arrive there." She informs everyone. "It would be nice if you could simply turn aside and go elsewhere, the city does not wish a powerful group of dragons to come anywhere near there, as it would likely mean a battle. Most of the city is protected, but the dragonshield does not protect the newer portions, so loss of life would be great."
Kierro nods in understanding, bowing to both the dragon and its rider. "Thank you, you two, for taking the time to venture out here."
He turns to the other dragon lords. "As magic travel, our original goal in the city, has been revealed to be impossible, we have no business bringing all of us into Waterdeep. I likewise would desire to remain away from conflict with the city."
Returning his gaze to Kheraalothoathosz, he adds: "I therefore agree. It would be in all of our best interests to give the city a wide berth as we debark to land and head southward. I have no qualms with this, so if all of my companions agree then that will be our course of action."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Maril and dragon land on the wall facing the bronze, she bows her head respectfully and removes her helm. “It is an honor to meet you, and I also thank you for your visit. We do not wish to inconvenience or threaten waterdeep. Our destination is far to the south. We merely seek a faster way to journey there. These storms that surround us are not our doing. Perhaps you have a suggestion for how we can make our journey faster and less impactful on those below. You see, some of this group already saved one poor ship from the storm..”
22 persuasion with advantage from help from her dragon and the others…
The aasimar turns to Kyrian. "The fact that we are being warned of our proximity to Waterdeep means we are getting closer and closer to land. We will be able to fly normally - it will be exponentially faster, friend."
"Magical travel to the far south has been... blocked for lack of a better word." The goliath atop the bronze dragon speaks up, glancing to Maril. "To go that direction I would find a closer location to travel to, somewhere between here and there. That would cut down time a bit I would think."
"Where they go is not our concern." Kheraallothoathosz says with a glance to the goliath. She turns back to Kierro. "I will keep watch." She says as she unfurrles her wings. "It is my hope to keep this from becoming less civil, so please talk your companions into turning aside." She leaps skyward at that, flying out in front of the castle, before diving into the storm clouds again. You would sense the dragon change directions, heading more north than east as it flies away from the castle.
(OOC: My RL issues have slowed down a bit. With that I am hoping to pick up the pace here again. We have a few players we have not heard from in a while, so I am hoping we have not lost them and that they will be more active as we get moving again.)
Kierro nods as the dragon speaks to him. "I will attempt to."
To his companions, he says calmly: "Therein lies our two possible answers. The castle's library more than likely has a map; we should be able to find some place to attempt to travel to. Failing that, simply flying south once we hit land, as I've mentioned, will be faster than taking the castle. Either way, we will be able to pick up the pace on our quest a little bit."
He paces as he emphasizes this next point. "But if we don't divert from our current course, we will run into conflict with the city of Waterdeep, and incur the ire of the many powerful people who call it home, no doubt. Regardless of if conflict with them matters or not to you all, we will be slowed down tremendously if we do not change our course."
"That said, any questions about it? Or are we all amiable to the new plan?"
Maril feels a little brazen to be the official spokesperson for the group, but the Goliath addressed her, and she wants to ensure the Archmage and dragon understand the situation- she doesn’t want an army attacking next. As they leave, Maril calls out to them “we will stay away from Waterdeep. Tell your people- we want no trouble to come to them- we only seek to recover what we lost. Any help offered would be welcomed. You have nothing to fear from us, but we will defend ourselves if we must.”.
To Kierro, she says “I think we can do both- Let’s head toward land but avoid waterdeep. The castle is comfortable but so slow. A combination of teleportation and dragonflight might help make this faster- and then we can return to the castle afterwards.”
"It would be nice to visit the city. There we could likely find mages to set up teleportation circles here in the castle, as well as send us to where we go."Leto says, adding, "And while they said our companions were not allowed in the city. They said no such thing for the rest of us."
Leto You would know it would take a year to set up teleportation circles in the castle. It is a spell that must be cast over and over again for an entire year to be permanent.
