"More supplies and armaments for the castle couldn't go amiss," Honor agrees. "Possibly Higgul and some of the others could go, if that would make the people of Waterdeep feel safer about it."
"There's always Baldur's Gate." Emmy points out to Honor. "It is a good deal further South, and between Waterdeep and wherever we are going."
"Plus it doesn't have a powerful-looking bronze dragon, and an archmage, telling us not to go there." Higgul pipes up, holding a half-full tankard of ale as he leans on one of the doorframes into the keep. He takes a long pull as he finishes speaking.
Kierro looks back at Sharot, then Chysen. But only for a moment. They were there under their own free will to help him, not hold his hand. And so he returns his gaze to his companions, and thinks of how to resolve this.
"The main concern here is the dragons attacking cities that we visit." He thinks. "And the message not to come to Waterdeep does likely extend to us as well as our dragons. I would very much like to visit one of the cities; how to do that without risking the lives of the citizens within?"
After a long beat he finally speaks: "We were asked not to travel to Waterdeep. Patham the goliath mage did not specifically address the dragons with that request; it was directed toward all of us. They know what we look like and will have eyes throughout the city; any of us venturing there would be recognized and would lead to trouble." He states slowly.
"Baldur's Gate seems like a more viable destination. Even still, it is a large city with sizable forces in its own right, and citizens that must stay safe. Perhaps the dragons stay behind while some of us venture out into the city on business. Does that seem like an acceptable compromise?"
"I must protest this plan." Chysen says, stepping up to Kierro, and lowering his voice for Kierro's ears only. "I cannot guard your back against... less savory individuals, if I am not at your back to do the guarding." As he speaks his eyes move to Leto and Yuno meaningfully. Sharrot has taken to the sky again, circling, but watching and waiting, keeping her own council.
"I understand your concern. I believe... that I should be fine." He follows Chysen's gaze. "He, I do not believe will target me for murder. Not after what Elminster showed us. And she... I can fly. I don't believe she can without the aid of a dragon. That is how I've been able to escape our past skirmishes. Fighting back in either case is a non-starter, given what that has been shown to do."
Kierro returns to looking eye-to-eye with the golden-armored warrior. "We regenerate after a time when killed, I believe. I am far more concerned with the safety of you, Sharot, and the citizens of the city than I am with my own. The important thing here is whether you and Sharot can maintain the peace while I am gone, and keep the other dragons from causing destruction to the city or themselves. That is what I believe to be most vital.
"Even at a faster rate of travel over land, as a group we're still hard to miss coming," Honor points out. "Any city that doesn't want to interact with us will have plenty of time to mount a defense. Who's to say we won't run into the same issue in Baldur's Gate?"
Higgul lowers the mostly-empty tankard from his mouth again and beltches. He then waves a hand towards Maril and Leareth. "Those two just appeared here out of no where. Why not get them to tell us how they did it, then see about using that to get to Baldur's Gate. Could be at the city fore it even knows we're coming."
Emmy gives Higgul a disgusted look. "I might have an easier way." She offers, lowering her voice for Honor's ears only.
"I have a teleportation circle I know the runes for, which is located in Baldur's Gate. We could use that if other options don't work out. I would prefer it be the last choice option, but it would save us quite a bit of time."
Maril replies.”An astute observation. Well- Leareth has a Amulet of the planes, but I’m not sure he knows how to use it properly. We had tried to travel all the way south- but it appears the gods intervened, or maybe he just got us lost a bit on the ethereal plane. I had been meaning to look to see if we have information on the runes for teleportation circles around this world in the library…” she pauses for a moment considering what to share and then continues, .. “I actually have access to a helmet of teleportation, but wasn’t sure how much to trust you all with that information. But I suppose I’ll take my chances. So some of us, anyway, can go places if the gods allow it.”
Honor nods at Emmy's words. "Thank you. I'll try to avoid using it -- or possibly just you can use it, if all we need are supplies we could get anywhere."
At Maril's words, Honor speaks louder. "More than just a few of us may need to go places if it involves getting our memories or powers back. But doing so will be for the benefit of all, so I'd wager it's worth it."
“with the helmet I can only transport nine. Leareth can transport all within a short distance of him using his amulet, but then we must to travel through another plane and shift back to the material. On our way here, he picked the ethereal, that place creeps me out. Hoping he picks a more pleasant interim plane next time.” Maril smiles and tosses her red hair. She is still sitting astride the Amethyst dragon, her shining purple scale mail perfectly matches the dragon’s coloration.
“If we can get a teleportation circle sigil sequence to a city, I could take some to get supplies now, if that’s what we want. I haven’t been here long enough to know what we need. I fear we might have had a hard time of it if that mage and Bronze had attacked- especially if they brought friends”
Didn't I explain this to her before? Yes, I think I did. Leareth did not let his momentary annoyance show as he explained, drawing on his extensive studies of the arcane. "Teleportation to a place you only heard of is hazardous. You would have better chance of having a mishap or arriving somewhere else, than at your destination. Picture teleporting into a stone wall and how that would feel. I do not recommend it. If we could find the sequence for a teleportation circle located somewhere on our way, that would be best."
"The amulet Tiondidirth lent me," He nodded to the chromium in recognition of her contribution "is much more reliable and can be used repeatedly without apparent harm. I can take up to eight with me at a time but can simply teleport back and forth until we are all there. There is a chance of arriving off target, yes, but it's much less likely... Can anyone cast Fox's Cunning? It would be quite helpful."
After a pause to let them consider this, he continued. "Alternately, I can create a phantom steed for each dragonlord and we can ride there. It's the safest method, and still faster than this floating fortress."
Leareth Tiondidirth frowns at the amulet Leareth wears but sighs. "I do not see why we bother with all of these lesser beings. I should be all you need." She does not bother keeping her tone down, but glares meaningfully around at all of those around. Oddroin smirks at Tiondidirth. "Mrs. High and Mighty you may be, but this seems well beyond you. Maybe you should return to your frozen lair and leave the rest of us to this..." Tiondidirth scoffs at the Black dragon but otherwise ignores his barbed comment.
Maril Undoth sighs, craining her head to look up at Maril. "I hae sequences in most cities, though Baldur's Gate is not one of them. The closest, between ehre and the desert kingdom, would be..." She seems to consider for a long moment. "Elturel would be my first choice I guess..." Etheim Stands at Undoth's side, in his humanoid form. He eyes the dragons around with a predatory look, but remains silent.
So what are we doing folks? Continue straight East, which will bring you to Waterdeep, change direction to angle more South, use Emmy's teleportation circle (only Honor knows Emmy mentioned one though,) use another teleportation circle near to Baldur's Gate, use the amulet to teleport, use the helm to teleport, or do something else entirely?
(I’m sorry I missed your previous post- it seems like notifications weren’t working again)
Maril’s proposal is to bring the castle to the south east- back over land but away from waterdeep and any major cities. She does not want to go any closer to waterdeep.
“I think we secure the castle on a uncontroversial course, and once that is done, I am willing to teleport as many as I can to a place to the south for our mutual interest of recovering shards, but I don’t have the sigil sequences to many places. Perhaps your dragons have knowledge of some they could share- or such information is available in our library? I am unwilling to risk teleportation to a place I’ve never seen. “ Maril says “Or, we can continue to travel slowly but safely in style aboard this castle. Meanwhile- if anyone needs to go to town to purchase something, I am willing to negotiate a fair price for the travel.. l”
Kierro nods. "Agreed. Diverting our course for now while we figure out the next step seems like the best option."
"As to that next step..." He looks out over the water. "Leareth, I can cast that spell if needed. Perhaps though..."
He steps aside and consults with the two dragons he has befriended - perhaps they know of a circle that can be used, ideally one that wouldn't cause too much trouble if people showed up through it.
Yuno is getting tired of this conversation and interrupts with a raised voice, "I'm going back to the castle!" Her voice is a bit shifted, sounding a louder and rougher with a slight nasally edge to it. It's different from the delicate, whispery voice she'd have when speaking to the other Dragonlords. She rides Tangy back to the castle.
Kierro Surprisingly Chysen does know of a sequence for a circle, one located in Elturel. (Rolled a d100 with less than 5 % chance of success, but he still managed it...) Sharot knows of a circle in Baldur's Gate. (She had a 25% chance to know one, as she had a circle in her own lair after all. Still though, it wasn't a sure bet, and, still, you manage to get another known circle.)
Everyone The castle changes direction, starting to angle more southward, not overly much, but enough that you will miss Waterdeep by some distance.
Kyrian also seems distracted, and turns around to look outwards from the keep. After a few seconds he starts to tap his foot in a seemingly random and sporadic pattern. After another short break he speaks up.
"I feel another dragon. It feels different, though. Otherworldly. Once we get a little closer I'll go investigate with Fraty if she wants to come"

“Ok- well let me know if anyone wants to go anywhere. I’ll be in the library for a while. In any case waterdeep will be happier. ” Maril says. She dismounts from her amethyst dragon who shifts into humanoid form and the two start heading for the library. Maril gives a nod to the patrolling Amber. At the library she will focus on researching teleportation sigil sequences for places- if such things can be found. She also reads about the cities and features of the southern lands.
