Faylen watches as the octopi are secured into the barrels and glances out to the open water, eyeing the distance to the ship.
"Fellas, it seems as though we may have a bit of a wait. Shall we talk about this cave a while?" she plants herself on top of a large rock protruding from the ground, folding her legs underneath her, happy to rest and speak with her companions for the time being.
"Well done everyone! Yes, I think taking a swim sounds very preferred. This door has my very intrigued. I fear we should leave someone here with the barrel to avoid allowing any others to run off with our catch."
"That is an option, or we could take the barrel to the cave with us. I don't think anyone is going to dive to look for it" replies V'rekh, after securing the barrel lid to make sure that no octopus can escape.
Faylen's smile widens. "I elect not to be left standing, my friend, as I may have procured one of our slimy, ink-filled friends in this barrel here in a most sneaky way. The group over there," she nods with her chin, "is bound to notice sometime. Though with the scuffle I created, maybe they won't catch on." She bounces up and down on the rock, the retelling of her small victory making her excitable.
"You know, it's not fair that you took their catch. They worked just as hard as us to get them." Borax got up and started to make his way toward the barrel. "We have enough of our own now to get back on the boat. I think I might return it to them. It would be the right thing to do. Gond says that, 'As a man strikes the anvil, so shall his blade be forged.'"
"Who is this 'Gond' you keep speaking of?" Faylen tilts her head to the side. She hums. "Fairness stops when the competition begins. Does it not count that I also worked hard to capture the ugly thing from them?"
V'rekh scratches his neck and replies "I'm more interested in the locked door underneath, maybe we can give them an octopus later if they are short when the ship comes."
"Gond is the Lord of the Smith's, the Holy Maker of All Things, the Wonderbringer. His fire glows eternally in the forges of the world and he gave me life." Borax taps the symbol of the cog on his chest. "We all fall within his workings. I would happily teach you of his ways, when we have time."
As V'rekh spoke, Borax considered his words. The ship may return at any time, and the door intrigued him. Such a thing lying beneath the waves for so long. There would be time later to return the octopi to its rightful owner. "I see wisdom in delaying the return. I will give them the creature once we are back on land."
The group heads under the waves (weighing the barrel down underwater?), it is a tough dive for everyone except V'rekh and Borax but you all make it to the air pocket sealed in the top of the underwater cave. You all see the door underwater and the cavern around you thanks to the various light spells active.
After securing the barrel in the air pocket, V'rekh turns to the chained door "let me check for magical wards before we try to open it." He points at the lock, moves his fingers in the air and whispers something trying to detect magic in the door or its surroundings.
"And you say it is locked? I should like to check and make sure the door itself is not trapped in some shape while V'rekh checks it for traps." He makes sure to stay out of the way while checking around the door jams and any visible knobs/knockers for signs of being trapped.
V'rekh casts his spell but doesn't see anything magical in the immediate area.
Jarrett dives under and inspects the metal door. The lock is fairly simple and the chains seem to go through small holes in the rock to the other side. Nothing seems trapped.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After determining the door is not magically or mundanely trapped Jarrett looks at the others and shrugs. "I shall work the locks and see if I cannot get this door opened." He removes his tools and begins to work at the strange locks...
16 - Thieves' Tools (Assumed Dexterity mod for the check. Let me know if there's a different stat modifier you'd have me use!)
As Jarrett works the lock, Borax reaches out and lightly lay his hand on the artificer's shoulder. "Gond guide your hands", he prays quietly. (Cast Guidance on Jarrett)
Jarrett produces his thieves' tools and begins to work the lock while underwater. He easily opens the lock causing the chains to go slack around the metal door. (You may keep Guidance for another check as long as Borax continues concentration on it)
The door is free to be opened.

The ship doesn't seem to be coming back anytime soon and most other groups still seem busy with catching.
(Feel free to take a short rest, and let me know what you'd like to do during/after)

Jarrett claps a palm to his forehead. "An excellent idea! I feel foolish for not thinking of myself!"

The group Faylen motioned toward gives no sign they suspect an octopus has been taken.
