Reed gives her a nasty look. And I'd like to make sure my neck has a chance at not being ripped out. How bout you take up the rear and watch our backs, eh? He pulls out his rapier and marches after Molo, muttering ever more creative curses.

Kellen Rivian(Level 12 Lore Bard)- Ghosts of Saltmarsh (cbaer8)
Ruven Gilrel (Level 4 Bladesinger)- The Shattered Obelisk
The door opens easily – it was barely even shut. Molo steps inside. The interior is damp and musty-smelling. The wooden floor is soft and spongy. The interior is not dark. The door at the end of the hallway (on the right) is open, and daylight can be seen, probably from the exterior windows on the north and west. The corridor turns left, opposite the open door. A lot of plaster lies strewn about, fallen from the walls or ceiling.
Fianna follows, not pushing to be next, not caring if she is. While she obviously doesn't dismiss the possibility of it being truly haunted, so far all she's seen is a normal run down and overgrown estate and some hostile wildlife...
The house is cold, damp, and in an advanced state of decay. An open door is ahead on the right, while the hallway appears to turn left. It is very quiet.
Lucky slinks along near the back of the group, attempting to move quietly. The inside of houses is more his thing, though he doesn't normally work in such noisy and large groups. That halfling is so loud. Considering he seems to know the secret code, someone should have taught him to keep his mouth shut inside other people's houses. This one might be run down and empty of normal owners, but the current inhabitants might just as easily be ghosts from the tales. He pads along, keeping eyes and ears open.
Reaching the end of the corridor, Molo and Reed are able to peer around the corners.
To the left, the corridor continues south another twenty feet or so, and then opens up into a large entrance hall. You can see the front door clear across the house. More open doors are in the hallway south - one on each side (east and west). Shattered remains of vandalized furniture are strewn along the hall.
Through the doorway north is a kitchen. It's dirty and damp, with patches of gray mold and cobwebs on the floor, walls, and ceiling. In the southwest corner is some iron cooking equipment with a chimney above. Next to it, under the window, is a cracked and discolored stone sink. To the right of the sink, a small, closed wooden cupboard is fixed to the wall about five feet above floor level. Against the far wall, a flight of wooden stairs leads upward from west to east; the woodwork of the staircase is decayed, and a few of the treads are missing.
Fianna will reach over Reed and open the cupboard and quickly step back. Assuming nothing leaps out she’ll slowly and carefully poke around the kitchen looking for... any signs of unusualness.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kelnan examines the stairs: Perception: 20
Kelnan doesn't find anything notable about the rickety staircase.
Meanwhile, Fianna and Reed (assisted by Molo) examine the cupboard: The cupboard is empty, save for a slick of dark-colored mold.
But the sound of the spongy, squeaky floorboards near the cupboard quickly morph into an odd metallic rattle. Before you are able to identify the sound, the sink erupts with pincers and antennae as four giant insects boil out of the sink drain. Aggressive, centipede-like monstrosities the size of a human leg pounce at the party in a flurry of snapping insect jaws.
"All animals deserve respect," Katernin says, "I just want to ensure all living creatures have a chance at life."

Kelnan, shaken but fine, holds back and tries to find whatever he detected as illusions earlier. They must be hiding something wonderful!

Reed follows right behind Molo, sword out and ready.

The house is quiet as the party files in.

Reed uses his sword point to try to open the cupboard, not quite being able to reach.

Molo will be the stepstool,
“get on up there and have a good look.”

Kelnan motions toward the east door from kitchen. "Something magical in there I think. An illusion maybe? Can't tell yet."
He then examines the stairs. Any signs of use? Specters wouldn't be using the stairs, other things, living or dead, might be.
Reed sizes Molo up, then shrugs and climbs on his back to look in the cupboard.

Katernin follows the rest into the house. She looks around, "Perhaps the answers we look for are on a higher level?" she suggests.

Fianna, Kelnan, and Molo may act first. (Fianna still has a d6 of inspiration left.)

(Because of the close quarters in the small kitchen, it may be time for a battle map. Keep in mind that positions/scale are approximate.)
