It looks like a large building was burned to the ground, not long ago. There is some evidence of salvage - as of somebody making piles - but you'd need to get closer to investigate.
Would you like to get closer, and if so, in any particular manner? You are still several hundred feet away. There are no signs of life.
Fi’Finella will, invisibly, fly down to the ruins and give an inspection as to whether the area is as abandoned as it seems and mentally report back to Fianna. For her part, Fianna will keep her distance for now, awaiting such report, and will set her eyes on the surroundings. Does it look like there are other routes to and fro this building? Does it look like there are any tracks? That kind of thing… but keeping her distance, just looking from afar for now.
Fi'Finella finds that all that remains of the abbey is a great square of sooty stones filled with burned and blackened rubble. It is clear someone has been sorting through the debris. Assorted oddments are piled inside the scorched square of the foundation stones. Ruined cooking utensils, crushed pots and pans, mangled kettles, and less identifiable metal objects lie in one pile. Broken crockery, platters, plates, porcelain, and pottery are heaped in another. A great deal of wood has been sorted into one large mound of badly burned scraps. In the center of the ruins is an opening; within it can be seen a stone staircase leading down into darkness.
There are extensive cultivated fields, and a hogpen, nearby. Paths lead in many directions. There are some fresh tracks in the snow as well; it looks like somebody has been rooting around one of the fields.
Fi’Finella turns and heads back to the ship and it’s captain. In raven form she flies the same path the party took, keeping an eye out for trouble… but when she arrives, once Fianna has a moment, she’ll tell the captain of the pigpen (assuming there’s live pigs in it still) and that the path seemed clear. “They may make a good meal, but don’t dawdle, we’re still trying to ensure area is safe.”
The party ventures into the ruins. Dain and Molo peer down the stairs, which lead to a charred wooden door at the bottom, evidently leading into some sort of cellar area.
Fi'Finella flies back to the ship, and reports to the captain in Fianna's voice. The crew is safe, and is continuing to set up camp. The captain seems gruffly appreciative of the update. "Don't start a war," he admonishes. "These people s'posed to be very evil an' very dangerous."
There are some crusty bootprints in the snow leading up and down the stairs into the cellar hole and throughout the ruins. Somebody has been walking around here since the storm. The cellar door looks functional, if a little charred and misshapen from the recent fire. The kitchenware and other items here are neither valuable nor usable - they've all been rendered functionless by the fire. But somebody has obviously sorted through them.
Molo and Dain peer down the stairs. Dain, Kelnan, and Fianna hold back a little. Fi'Finella returns to Fianna having run their errand.
Fianna nudges Katernin. “We going to knock or go explore elsewhere?”
Fi’Finella perches upon Fianna’s shoulder and preens their feather for a few moments then, with a shake, transforms into the imp form and turns invisible.
"Dain, Schmain," Fianna says with a sneer. "You were the one telling me how to act, so you're the one I'm following. If you're going to lead... then lead!"
A huge, musclebound man tears the door open. With lightning-quick reflexes, he points a spear in Molo's face. You can see a dimly lit chamber within. It reeks of greasy, soured food.
The big man holds a shield in his off-hand, and has a freshly-healing wound on his scalp. "Who are you?" he growls, ready to skewer the inquisitive kobold at the slightest misstep.
Behind him, two more weary-looking humans look up from a makeshift table, startled, as you appear.
(Kelnan's mage armor is still active. It's been no more than three or four hours since the skeleton fight.)
Fi'Finella, invisible, launches up off of Fianna's shoulder at tries to fly into the room above the answerer's head...
"Hi, my name is Fianna, uh... this is my friend, Molo,' Fianna says, shocked someone actually answered like regular people. "I wonder if you might help us. You see, our ship broke down a few miles up the road. Do you have some lumber we might use?"
As a more practical matter, Fianna is mentally prepared to telekinetically shove the dude if he seems ready to get hostile...
He is very, very hostile. You can sense that it's taking all his restraint to not skewer Molo immediately where he stands.
"No, no, no," he admonishes Fianna coldly. "Ye' have a ship? What d'ye' bring fer us?" he demands.
A fourth figure appears in the room behind - a tall, dark-haired man wearing a yellow robe and a large medallion around his neck. "Ogmund! Who is it?" he calls to the brute with the spear.
Molo let’s out a small squeal instead of a shriek before settling down. “I am Molo. And I have these bones I found? Look, we want to see the wood first. We ain’t flashing coin at any dummy that shoves a spear in my face!”
Kelnan draws his wizard cloak tight around and looks intently toward the ruins.
(Is there any indication what caused the damage?)

“Seems like we should be considering going exploring down under the ground,” comments Dain. “Anyone object ta me leading?”

Kelnan keeps an eye out behind the group and sighs at the bickering.
(Is Mage Armor still active? 8 hour duration starting when the group disembarked from the ship)
Molo knocks. Someone answers:
