Berry, Krunch's currently falcon familiar, watches the front door of the cultists even after the little Kobold's spell ends. Berry has instructions to sit tight and watch, returning only to report if a group leaves...
Krunch is unsure about this group. They seem a bit bloodthirsty. But the cultists did kill one of theirs so perhaps they have a right to be.
"Krunch go with you. Help you. Show way, if need be," Krunch says in his stilted Common. "But plan first, yes? We agree, all attack guard. Kill guard. We hide and wait then. Let more come out. Block door if we can, limit number, yes? Easier if we fight bit by bit..."
If the party generally agrees to the plan then Krunch will slowly and, hopefully, stealthily lead them back to the cultists den. Once within 100 feet of Berry he would pause to get an update from the familiar, location of guard and anything else it may have seen.
Berry has eyes on the guard at the top of the steps, which is about 1200 feet from Krunch's camp, and about 500 feet from the edge of the glade.
Anyone who wants to sneak up on the guard (during daylight hours, at least) across those last 500 feet will need to roll a Stealth check with disadvantage, due to the cultists' wariness and the open terrain.
Something changed overnight. You feel a little older, wiser, and stronger for your recent struggles. Everyone is now 6th level. (Everyone but Krunch may level up!)
Before they start on any kind of plan, Katernin says to the group. "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst," is all she says. "I hope this helps though," she holds out her hands to Molo and Dain, and nods for Kelnan to finish the circle. She stands there, silently praying for help. When she's done, there's a small vine wrapped around their wrists.
((Casting Aid on Molo, Dain, and Kelnan at 3rd level.))
Dain is fed up with messing about. He hefts his maul over his shoulder and starts off marching towards the cultists. As he does he begins to speed up, bit by bit. A walk becomes a march. A march becomes a jog. A jog becomes a trot. A trot becomes a run and finally, a run becomes a sprint and a scream and a bellow of rage!
Kelnan joins the circle. Afterwards, he notes "We shouldn't need to spend another night in the cold. I've tweaked the force bubble I used to penetrate the border ethereal to maintain a selective semi-permeable mass-energy barrier and construct a climate-controlled and practically impenetrable shelter . Basically a small tent, or hut if you will. I believe I've worked out the excessive heat accumulation problem, rather cooked a number of rats back on the ship. I'm almost certain that won't happen in the full-scale version."
He nods satisfied with himself, dons Mage Armor (Arcane Ward at 16 HP and can be used to protect party members now!), and tries unsuccessfully to grab Dain before he takes off. Accepting that this charge is happening, he shrugs, says some arcane words, spreads his arms and leaps into the air, soaring high into the sky and well outside crossbow range.
"Ah yes, worked out how to Fly as well. A surprisingly productive night."
"So, we're doing this..." Krunch says and shrugs. He pauses half a second and then follows.
"Not straight on, attack on angle!" Krunch shouts, not sure if the others are listening of paying attention. He pulls out his sling and prepares it so he can let loose a stone as soon as within range (120) otherwise he just keeps pace with Dain and the others.
The party charges out of the scrub, following Dain's lead. Everyone Dashes.
Before the guard even sees you, the party has begun to cover significant ground. Round 1: Dain and Molo - 70 feet Krunch and Katernin - 60 feet Kelnan - 80 feet forward, 90 feet up
Round 2: (I presume everyone will continue dashing forward? How high does Kelnan intend to climb?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Round 2: The group races forward across the slush-covered moors. You realize it's a tad farther than it looks. Kelnan races out in front, 90 feet in the air, pausing just outside what he expects is the range of the guard's heavy crossbow. Krunch and Katernin fall a little further behind Dain and Molo. Molo has three-quarters cover from his dwarven meat shield. (+5 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving throws)
You see activity ahead as the guard holds his fire but calls for his comrades: Added to Initiative: Ozymandius (Yellow-robed priest): 5 Dapper swordsman: 14 Odium (Robed figure in red): 11
(I think I will put all players in one initiative fleet, and the cultists in the second, for ease of play. Let me know if you have any objections!)
Round 3 Everyone may act. (Is everyone still dashing forward? Kelnan, Dain , and Molo will likely enter long-range crossbow range in this round.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Round 3: Kelnan shoots nearly straight up (now about 210 feet off the ground) as Molo maneuvers himself in front of his dwarven steed and casts a protective spell. (Dain now has half-cover: +2 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving throws.)
Krunch and Katernin continue to fall further behind Dain and Molo.
The crossbowman, and now his partner, fire off a pair of long-ranged bolts at the forward duo: Long-Ranged Heavy Crossbow Attack vs Dain: 13 Hit: 4 piercing damage. Long-Ranged Heavy Crossbow Attack vs Molo: 12 Hit: 9 piercing damage.
You can see the other three cultists peering out over the ruins as well, talking excitedly to each other. The dapper swordsman gestures and his ghostly blade appears at a distance, flying slowly but assuredly at Dain and Molo.
Round 4: Everyone may act. I will assume everyone will continue to Dash unless you tell me otherwise. (Kelnan straight up.)

Guard perception: 4
Dain's shout and sudden charge takes the guard, well, off-guard. He loses a round, trying to get his bearings.
