Once Krunch and crew are within hearing of the Thunderclaps, Krunch will assume the fight is still going on. Krunch eyes the swordsman warily, ready to strike out at them if they make the slightest unexpected move. “Trouble ahead. We need to double time it…”
As the group approaches the open stairwell, they hear a series of thunderous explosions, punctuated by banging sounds and Draconic swears.
A look of professional caution crosses Bayleaf's face as the group peers down the stairwell. He reaches for his sword, only to remember that Krunch holds it.
Meanwhile, Molo manages to finally break open the desk, now reduced to splinters. Inside the desk are two fancy vials full of black ink, one now smashed, and some ink-soaked papers (blank except where the ink splattered them.) The ink smells faintly of copper.
Abandoning the inky, splintered mess and moving along, Molo finds the next room is full of small statues and figurines. There are statues of dogs and horses, monks and pilgrims, footmen and knights on horseback, and several garden gnomes. All the statues are between one and three feet tall. Standing against the northern wall are two life-size statues. One is a robed skeleton holding a large scythe, and the other is a medusa. On the floor in front of these statues is a pallet of several blankets.
Arriving at the stairwell and seeing there is already a live captive, Krunch would ask “What is the noise? Where is little one? All ok?”
“Sorry, tie you up we must. But just til we sort out below,” Krunch would tell the swordsman once he heard Molo was exploring below alone. If swordsman argues, Krunch would raise his flail, point out how outnumbered he is, and suggest he allow it. If he resist… initiative time? Once they were tied and secured, all possible mischievous belongings piled well away from the captives, Krunch would suggest someone stay and guard them while rest go below to find the Kobold…
Berry would also stay topside keeping eyes on the hostages…
Molo begins attempting to destroy all the statues except a horse one- starting with the gnomes, then Medusa, then skeletal guy, then the others. He’ll spend quite a bit of time to do it. Then carry out the horse one.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Krunch – Persuasion check: 15
Bayleaf nods. "Sure, sure," he mutters, not resisting to Krunch's insistence. "But let me show you around down there once you sort that out. Also - I'd like my boots and papers and belongings, if that's okay with you." Kavana gives Bayleaf a sour look.
--- Meanwhile, Molo begins noisily smashing the statues. The small figurines are all made of glazed clay and poorly fashioned. The two large statues are made of stone and clearly weigh many hundreds of pounds. Each stands on a square base. Bits of dirty straw are stuck in the medusa’s snaky hair and between the skeleton’s ribs.
He makes quick work of the gnomes, but smashing the medusa requires much more effort. With some work, Molo finally manages to break one arm off the medusa, which then shatters on the floor.
Once prisoners secured, Krunch hurried down, following the noise. He’s not been down there at all so any and all destruction and chaos seems fresh to him, so he’s definitely cautious and on guard as he searches…
Dain volunteers to watch both Bayleaf and Kavana outside, so that Krunch, Kelnan, and Katernin may investigate the cellar.
Krunch finds the dank, foul-spelling cellar to be claustrophobic and unclean. While the bodies have been removed (aside from the charred corpse on the stairwell) there are still dried bloodstains on the stone floor evident of yesterday's deadly battle. This is not a place he is eager to spend much time in.
Katernin and Kelnan find the cellar much as they left it, aside from the removal of the bodies and the rigging of a crossbow trap on the door, now disarmed.
The party finds Molo wrestling with a medusa statue in one of the side rooms, trying to break off more of its heavy limbs.
Krunch looks about quizzically and watches Molo for a moment before making a point of clearing his throat loudly. "It attack you. Yes?" Krunch then asks of Molo, curious about just what is going on down here.
Krunch's powerful blow takes the medusa's stone head clear off. It falls to the floor with a bang and cracks into two pieces. Meanwhile, Molo manages to break the other hand off.
It's old and dirty, and looks like a bird once nested among the stone snakes. The rendering isn't bad. It was definitely made of solid stone by a relatively skilled artisan.
Molo begins fighting with the robed skeleton. Like the medusa, it appears to be carved from solid stone, and in a similar style. Bits of old birds’ nests can be seen between the skeleton’s ribs. It's similarly heavy - maybe 700 pounds - and, like the medusa, standing on a square base. Molo manages to snap off the large, ornate, stone scythe (not an actual, functional weapon.)
"And this one attacked you too?" Krunch asks, standing back and watching Molo get to work. Krunch does his best not to allow his amusement show but he's starting to find the entire thing quite entertaining.
Kelnan finds a seat on the stones and takes a few minutes to cast Detect Magic. He begins taking stock of what's down here. There were some spellcasters among this bunch, who knows what they might have left.
While Molo and Krunch are smashing statues, Kelnan sits above, carefully preparing himself, and then scanning his surroundings for magic. He does pick up many arcane signatures below - in all four of the rooms off the north side of the cellar (including the statue room) as well as something illusionary behind the south wall of the cellar. The signals are weak, but he can identify schools of Illusion, Enchantment, and Evocation among them, as well as some indeterminant magical types.
After he casts the spell, he goes downstairs and starts poking around. Feeling mostly safe since the others are down here making a mess.
Walking downstairs, his spell still active, Kelnan is able to triangulate his magical senses. For instance, something arcane (and from the School of Enchantment) lay just underneath the medusa statue. Looking closer, Kelnan can clearly see that the floor by the statue of the medusa, covered with a growing pile of debris from Molo's and Krunch's activities, also shows evidence of wear.

Molo gets frustrated, ignores the “garbage” he found, and moves on to the next room

Investigation: 23
Kicking away fragments of stone medusa hair, Kelnan can't make too much of the scratches. Something heavy slid across the floor here.
