Lucky puts on his colorful, scaly spectacles and examines the immediate area. There are no signs of recent passage here - the dust and grime and mildew seems like it has been undisturbed for some time. There are no tracks here. He does find a few small, colorless, unpleasant-looking feathers (or something akin to them) near the collapsed staircase to the attic.
Katernin leads the way down the old hallway. The first door she comes to is wide open.
This room appears to have been used for storage. A large, ill-made oak chest stands under the window, its lid closed. Elsewhere in the room lie three broken wooden chairs, two splintered wooden buckets, and a mildewed sack. Just inside the door is a heap of clothing; these garments have collected little dust, appearing to have been placed here only recently.
"Someone is definitely using his house regularly," notes Lucky, indicating the dropped clothes. "I saw a fresh print downstairs too. We should be cautious."
Poking with his rapier, Reed finds the small heap of clothes consists of one pair of ordinary pants, one shirt, a pair of shoes, and a jacket - all reasonably new and in good condition. There's also a sheathed short sword. A pocket in the pants contains a handful of silver pieces.
Moving on to the next room, Reed carefully peers through the partially opened door into an old bedroom. Damp mold covers portions of the walls and ceiling, and rubbish is strewn liberally around the floor. In the center is a single mattress that has been badly torn, from which stuffing protrudes. Under the window sits a large wooden chest, the timbers split and its lid closed.
Lucky sees nothing of immediate note. The chest clearly hasn't been opened in years. There is no evidence of traps or a lock. Through the split sides you can see it has some cloth or clothing and some mouldering papers inside.
Opening it, Katernin finds a pile of moldy, ragged clothing in styles that were never in fashion — nothing of value — and a bundle of documents. These pages are rotted and stained, their meaning lost long ago.
(OCC - Sorry - I forgot there were two rooms with chests. Katernin opened the one in the southern room - the one with the mattress. Would you also like to open the one in the northern room?)
Kelnan, absorbed in his examination of the downstairs room, notices abruptly that the rest of the group has moved on. Gingerly closing the door, he harumphs softly and follows upstairs. He follows into the southern room, dusts off the most stable and comfortable chair, and has a seat. "Have some patience friends, uncovering hidden arcane mysteries takes time!"
He flips open his spellbook and begins the chant to activate Detect Magic again.
(Kelnan is stubborn enough he's going to finish out the ten minute ritual cast even if everyone leaves, unless there's obviously a noisy fight starting)
Treading softly, Fianna makes her way down the hallway just to the corner of the railing. She’ll peek out and down to the lower floor to see what is there, trying to stay out of sight, just in case.
Kelnan sits crosslegged on the filthy and spongy wooden floor (there are no chairs in the southern bedroom.) He begins to chant and perform carefully choreographed arm movements, beginning his ten-minute ritual.
Meanwhile, Fianna quietly makes her way to the intersecting hallway. Finding it empty (and similar in its decrepit condition - a lot of fallen plaster, mold, and debris), she crosses over to a balcony. The balcony rail is broken in several places, but she is able to peer down into a musty, dirty entrance hall. The walls are bare, and bits of smashed furniture lie upon the floor. A reasonably stable-looking staircase is on the eastern wall.
Fianna will wait where she is, eyes going from what she can see over the balcony, to the hallway on either side, to the hallway behind her, and back again. She's trying to watch over everything while the two rooms are searched, not wanting to move and investigate either east or west rooms without Lucky searching first.
(OCC - Sorry - I forgot there were two rooms with chests. Katernin opened the one in the southern room - the one with the mattress. Would you also like to open the one in the northern room?)
Lucky will check the northern chest over (Investigation +6 with adv) and if safe will open it.
(Away from PC posting on iPad. Please can the DM roll my check?)
Fianna maintains a quiet lookout position where the hallways intersect. Kelnan continues preparing his ritual in the southern bedroom. Lucky, Katernin, Reed, and Molo wrap up their investigation of the bedroom and the storeroom.
The house remains cold and quiet, with no signs of life. A thin rain begins to fall outside.
Kelnan finally finishes his ritual. He begins to study his surroundings.
From where he sits, the only disturbance in Weave that he can detect is below him and to the northeast - in that small room off the kitchen. Something from the School of Illusion. There is nothing notable on this floor or in the attic, at least within thirty feet of his current position.

Reed unsheathes his sword with a flourish, and pokes the pile of clothing. Then he moves on, still holding the sword, to the next door.

Lucky investigates the large, crude oak chest in the northern bedroom:
Investigation: 20
He finds no traps or other dangers. Opening it, he finds it's empty.
Kelnan continues his low chanting and gesticulations.
Fianna keeps an eye on the lower entrance hall and the hallways. All is very quiet, except for the cold breeze whistling through gaps in the windows.
Fianna
Fianna continues just acting as a lookout until Lucky is ready to explore these other ends of the hallway. Best someone is on guard.
Molo looks at the others and laughs. “All that for an empty house? Nothing at all, top to bottom.”
