The day was winding down and our hero was glad to have finally arrived at the wayside inn known as The Falling Leaf. Nestled halfway between the cities of Dorn and Gilbert, in the Wildwoods of Han. The inn offered a warm fire, a firm bed, and more importantly cold ale as a way stop between towns. The outside of the inn is unremarkable, built for function more than style. This night a merchant train has pulled in and the little two story building is alive with activity.
The sounds of the smithy hammer can be heard along side the cries of the stable hands as they fix and re-shoe the merchants horses. Lights, music, and laughter come from an open first story window, and a sign - shaped like a maple leaf, and painting in autumn color hangs above the door.
NOTE: Brick is making his way back through the forest on his way to one of the cities. He normally finds work as a guide, or tracker. Not great pay but it lets him stay in his favored terrian.
Stopping near the smithy, Brick is told that the merchants and most of the caravan folk are inside. Stepping up and through the door the dwarf enters the common room.
A light haze fills the air, mostly from the fireplaces and a bit from the pipe smokers sitting at numerous tables. All heads turn towards the door for a moment before turning back to their conversations. A halfling fiddler and a human piper play in the corner for tips. A small crowd around them clapping or stamping to the music.
The smell of roasted fowl and spicy sausages fill Brick's nostrils as he takes in the sights.
Roll a Perception check - 1d20-1 to see if you notice or locate the merchant master
Brick notices some of the wagon drivers and common folk, by their muddy boots and drab garb. Then he sees two warriors in mail standing behind a man wearing fine furs and linens, and knows who is in charge of the merchant train almost instantly. The middle-aged human has a thin mustache and goatee. A thick gold chain holds his cloak in place, and the fire light reflects off a few rings he wears on each hand.

One of the guards interposes himself between Brick and the merchant. "Now, now Brill none of that." the merchant says in a high pitched tone. "We have a potential customer here."
Looking the dwarf over he shakes his head, "Although I don't think he would be interested in the carpets or tapestries we are carrying."
brick slowly realizes he is poor and has no money and needs a fast way out of this like now *actually do you have any small quests i may do* (sorry i was looking at the character sheet and just noticed he has no money and only the stuff from the character creator)
Since Brick is not in the market for rugs or tapestries the merchant invites him to have a drink with him and tell him of the road through the Wildwoods. They spend the neck half hour taking of places they've both been before the front door of The Falling Leaf swings open hard.
Ducking inside the door frame is a massive man (nearly 8' tall) wearing skins and furs, and carrying a greatsword on his back. Standing just inside the doorway he looks about the room with a delighted grin from ear to ear.
"Hark'en! Men of the forest!" he hollers in greeting. "Tonight be your luckiest of nights!" his voice booming over the din and music. Everyone quiets down and turns their attention to towards the newcomer. "Yes a great time to be alive, and great fortune that you are here."
He enters the common room, the floorboards creaking under his massive weight, and approaches a table full of wagon drivers. "Come! Come gather round, I have a magnificent treasure for all of you to behold!" Curiously people get up from their tables and gather round the giant of a man.
As Brick gets up he notices the merchant nod to the man named Brill, who then moves towards the crowd along with the dwarf.
As you reach the table the young man is digging in his backpack. Smiling he pulls forth two fist size gems. They gleam and shine in the lamp light, and those gather round ohhh... and ahhhh... at the sight.
"Behold! The mere smallest of stones I found in a long discarded hoard high in the Rom Mountains. A treasure so vast I could not hope to carry it all here myself. What brave folk among you will travel back with me to loot and share in the wealth just waiting there?"
Everyone quickly volunteers, and the treasure hunter starts scanning the crowd.
Brick looks at brill with childlike awe "brill we need to do that like dude money" brick shoots his hand up as high as he can pushing farther ahead to the man to were he introduces himself"hello sir um.. hi i am brick and i have been wanting to adventure my whole life and i think this is my calling"
(also im going to roll my charisma to try and convince him
i have a base of 14 charisma a +2 and on a d20 i rolled a 12)
The treasure hunter's hand engulfs the dwarfs and he shakes it firmly. "Well met Brick," he says taking in the rangers' gear. He nods approvingly. "And will your friend be joining us?" he asks with a look at Brill. The guardsmen looks over at the merchants table. The finely dressed man raises his cup in approval and Brill extends a hand, "I'm in. Umm.. Brill Journeyman," he says by way of introduction. "Grand. Grand. Then the Rom Mountains await."
OOG: Will need an INT check to see how much Brick knows/remembers about the Rom Mountains.
OOG: Great, Brick knows the Rom mountains are about two-three weeks march to the north. And is home to some nasty giant tribes, that normally fight among each other. It is after sun down so maybe a put the character to bed and then I'll post starting off in the morning.
Brick wakes the next morning to the smell of biscuits and bacon, and hurries down to breakfast. Noticing that there are less people in the common room than the night before, he quickly eats and rushes outside. The smith is still tapping on horseshoes, and the farriers are busy fixing a wagon wheel. A coward is gathered near the entryway and it is easy to pick out the young treasure hunter from the night before as he stands head and shoulders above everyone else, even the tall Brill who is geared and waiting in the group.
Noticing you over the coward the huge warrior wave you to join the group. "Brick Brick! Over here," he calls. "Come meet our traveling companions."
OOG: Going to run a skill challenge for what Brick's first impression of the group is. This isn't standard 5e but, is something a DM will use to quickly get through a process. So for this challenge I will need the follow skill checks. Insight, Persuasion, Nature, and Perception. Please roll them in order as I'll need to know which you succeed at.
