"You are right, the tower, I had not thought of that," Talvian nods, "I would say either the monastery or the tower would be our best place to start. How far away is the monastery from here did you say?"
Si thinks it over and says, "My recommendation is to head to this monastery and find out who hired the assassins. Perhaps we can double back to the tower on our way back to town."
"Works for me." Jhazaal agrees with a shrug. He runs a hand over his bald head as he glances to the others of the group. "Seems like we got a great mystery to solve here." He says, giving a sharp-toothed grin of clear enjoyment. "I mean, I am sorry they went missing and all of that, but we have assassins, cults, and who knows what, quite the adventure..."
About halfway through the travel , you see a group of people, a merchant who is traveling with his cart full of goods, seven people carrying others supplies and items, and six people in armor with weapons.
"Hail travelers." Jhazaal calls as he spots the group of people. "Any news from the road ahead?" He stands with the others, calling out to the oncoming people they have come across.
“What a surprise to see other people traveling in these parts!” The merchant says “Beasts and monsters have become more and more common. I had to double my guards because of them.”
"Yes, we are looking into a group of delegates that recently went missing in these parts." Jhazaal says with a nod of agreement. He runs a hand over his bald head as he glances around, half-expecting some of those very monsters to be creeping up on them even now. "Have you seen or heard anything about a delegation that was traveling in these parts?" He asks. "Also, just to warn you, there appear to be a series of cults working in the area." He nods to his companions. "We have a sample of their symbols, and you should be wary if you see anyone with such symbols..."
"Okay than, we'll be on the lookout!" The merchant says as his caravan leaves.
You reach the monastery after a bit more traveling. A trail leads into a ever-narrowing defile between bluffs of wind sculpted sandstone. Eventually the walls draw in so closely that you can reach out and touch the other side, but then the narrow space opens into a hidden canyon in the heart of the hills. A sprawling monastery with dark, narrow windows and red tile rooftops stand in the middle of this natural amphitheater, ringed by sandstone cliffs all around. Ahead, a withered flight of stone steps leads up to the closed monastery doors. A dusty footpath circles the building.
"I'm going to take a look around before we approach the door..." Jhazaal announces, nodding to the path around the building. He makes a complete circuit of the place, trying to see if he notices anything of interest.
A small door, perhaps a servant's entrance is on the northwest side of the monastery. On the northeast side, a low wall enclosed an good sized garden with a locked gate. The eastern portion of the monastery is in poor repair, the walls are crumbling, and the windows have been bricked up.
Si examines the crumbled brickwork as they make their way around the path. He wonders if it looks like it could be used as a means to enter the facility.
Jedavii sticks with Talvian. He observes the monastery as a whole. How big is it? Are any of the symbols displayed anywhere? What sorts of people can be seen through the windows or on the monastery grounds?
The monastery is not a perfect rectangle, its corners bend in with small rooms sticking out. The monastery is about 200 feet by 150 feet. Inside most windows is people in robes and gargoyle masks doing chores and tasks.

Jedavii looks for a high place to see into the compound, if there is one.

The stonework still has most of its foundation, so breaking it down would be near next to impossible.
Talvian stays out front while Jhazaal and Si start their investigation, keeping his eyes peeled for any enemies around.
