It isn't certain how much time has passed as the group descends down the tunnel. But it certainly feels strange. There haven't been any sign of living creatures down here, not even insects. The tunnel soon splits into a fork. Oriander shakes his head as they come to it. "...Down here, the only legends are on the various puzzles of the mountain. I don' which way we would go, unlike the first one." He says.
The cave still sounds quiet... Zack can hear the very very faint sounds of rushing water coming from the right tunnel (thanks to a passive perception of 19). He can't determine how far away it is.

Zack points down the right tunnel, "Do you hear that? There's water flowing somewhere down this way." He stops and strokes his chin for a moment as he thinks. "That might be why they come from the river. Wherever this underground river flows, it must link onto the river that flows through the town."

'So you're saying they basically use the water to get to the surface?' Kalgren replied. 'Good to know. If we ever get lost, we can just follow the water upstream.'
"...Down here, the only legends are on the various puzzles of the mountain. I don' which way we would go, unlike the first one." He says.
Kalgren turned to Oriander. 'More puzzles?'He asked bemused.
Vigil let out a grunt. ‘’Tell me, Oriander.’’, the tiefling asked. ‘’How many people know about those rhymes that led us to this place?’’
"Mos' goliaths do, since they're 'anded down as our 'eritage." He says. "The humans migh' know 'em, but not remember much. Not their history." Oriander chuckles gently, looking about.

"Puzzles in the sense o' being natural dangers. There are stories of mortalmade traps down 'ere, but they are very few an' far between compared to the risk o' gettin' lost, not trustin' the will o wisps, and the occasional dragon story."
The goliath looks around before shrugging as he heads down the right tunnel, placing a hand on the wall as he walks. "C'mon then. We 'ave monsters to find."
As the group moves onwards, they soon find the river rushing through the tunnel... It's shooting off from left to right, in a wide tunnel about 80 feet across... In the very dim light just on the cusp of the Light, the darkvision holders can see the far wall. The tunnel itself is about 60 feet tall, though nobody can see either end.
And there is a brief sound of things sliding across stone, and the faint pic pic pic of talons against stone.

Zack readies himself as he scours the extents of their light for the source of the sound, "That sounds like something very familiar, gentlemen. Perhaps we have indeed found the source of the creatures. Keep an eye out though, as I don't see them yet." (Perception: 6).
Peering out into the darkness, Vigil holds his scimitar close at hand as he shifts his gaze in the direction of the noise. "Keep your heads up, or you'll lose it.", he whispers to his companion.
Vigil is able to just barely catch a glimpse of a pale white tail tip slithering into the darkness upriver... The darkness that is considered dim light for him, but he loses it in the shades of gray that his darkvision affords him. Oriander's brow furrows.
"...I don' think it's a source. May be watchers, or a worker party. Do any of you see them?"

The tunnel is all quiet, except for the bubbling of the river as it rushes through.
Oriander slowly draws a club out from somewhere, eyes flicking through the area. "...I can't tell if they're runnin'... or settin' an ambush." He says. "...Do we take the bait, or find a way across and try an' go aroun' 'em?"

Zack peers into the darkness and shrugs, "Well, we've sprung them once before. I'm happy to spring a trap or two if need be. After all, there's always a trap, just depends on who takes the bait first. And if we're ready for them, it'll be us baiting them."
'We best keep moving.' said Kalgren, his voice barely louder than a whisper. 'They hold the home advantage so the longer we stay put, the better they'll be able to coordinate an attack.'
He glanced at the river. 'I do think we should avoid confrontation if we can.'Kalgren looked back at the others. 'Where to now?'
"Well, I see no way across this river," Zack says as he looks up and down the darkness. "Unless any of you can think of a way, I think we might have to turn back and head down the other tunnel."
Oriander hrms. "...Well, we need ta go deeper. Perhaps... I agree with Zack. We spring their trap, 'n turn it against them." He looks at the group. "O' course, is up to ya." He produces a club from his bag and taps it lightly against his leg, peering into the darkness as best he can...
The skittering of talons on stone has stopped. Either the monsters are out of reach, or they've set up their ambush.
"...We oughta 'ave something to make some flame..." Oriander starts digging through his backpack. "Anyone else 'ave lantern oil? I know I got some somewhere..."

Zack holds up his lit dagger, "We have light already. Though as I say this, I feel as though you may have other ideas in mind for some flame. I can light things up with my fire bolt."
Vigil tries to focus evenly on the creatures and his companions. "Can’t turn back. If those little 'riddles' are to be believed, this is the only right way to get where we want to go."
The tiefling then turns around to address them more directly. "As for fire, we brought torches for a reason, haven’t we?"

"Once more unto the breach...", simply says Vigil as he heads down the tunnel. "If this is truly the creature’s lair, you best stay on your guard."
There was a hint of excitement in his voice. As if the thrill of the hunt had suddenly renewed his sense of purpose.
Zack nods, "Agreed. They will likely be at an advantage down here. They know the terrain. We do not, unfortunately."

'In the water?' Kalgren whispered. He began to regret coming down here.
