Lewin you remember seeing symbols belonging to the Cult of the Black Earth on the attire of the cultists who took the prisoners. Come to think of it, you recognize Flux being amongst those prisoners.
Lewin
Cult of the Black Earth
The earth cult worships the implacable strength and unyielding resistance of elemental earth. Cultists seek the power to destroy the works of civilization with landslides, sinkholes, or mighty earthquakes, thus demonstrating the true power of elemental earth and the futility of resistance. Earth cultists see mines, quarries, and tiled fields as insults imposed upon the living rock and soil. They believe the earth thirsts for the blood of those who don't venerate it before all other powers and beings.
Lewin's black eyes swirl at the flow of conversation, barely keeping up. "Barrister? Hrm. That it good to know, Ebele." His palms move up and press against his eyes, now squeezed shut. He's trying to focus, or settle his mind, or perhaps remember. It seems hard. But he stills, eventually, and removes his hands, and opens his eyes.
He listens to Flux, and glances down at him. "Yes. You were imprisoned as well. I do not even recall how I came to be imprisoned. However. As to the question of the other group. Earth cultists, I believe. I've heard stories. They worship dirt, stone, rock. They wish to topple buildings and creations, and pull them under the earth. They hate mines, and believe the earth to hold grudges against people who simply walk on it or disrupt it without proper... adulation."
He blinks, and looks at who he understands to be the barrister. "Is that helpful?"
Without waiting for an answer he goes to assemble his things.
”Yes, indeed, Lewin. We have run across the earth cultists before, and now they are making deals to travel through the water cultist territory. They seem to be seeking converts in town, subverting those of weak mind into joining their evil cause,” replies Kerric.
“Once we are done pushing through the air of the Water Cultists and freeing those enslaved here, we must cross the river and continue to pursue the earth cultists and their prisoners, the Dwarven Delegation,” he adds, looking around to see who is ready to move on and who might need a rest.
“If you would fight the evil cultists and rescue slaves, you are welcome to join our effort. At the least we will get you somewhere relatively safe where you may choose your own path,” he concludes.

Flux scoffed and shook his head. Crossing back through the scattered Market Hall, Kerric and T'chal'fronack'zcinicker lead the way to the northern hallway. It opens up to an alcove to a northern section of the canal.
A stone bridge crosses over the canal fifteen feet above the water level here. Steps on the south side of the canal climb up to the bridge, which leads to a set a stone double doors. Painted on the doors is a large symbol.
West and east of the bridge, and level with it, culverts carved in the shape of huge, yawning dwarven faces discharge streams of water into the canal. The small waterfalls make a lot of noise in the vicinity of the bridge. A hallway leads south from the quay on the south side of the canal. (This be where you at.)

Kerric indeed had reason to be wary of foes lurking within the waters. Each time they come along the canal, there’s always a chance to encounter a foe, much like Ebele had with the squidlike creatures.
Unable to make much sense of the symbol, the elven warrior moves on to inspects the bridge. Xalkas squints his eyes to look at the symbol off in the distance while his companion does so. Thanks to his earlier research on the cultists the wizard recognizes the same cultist symbol he inspected before. It’s the elemental cultist symbol for the Cult of the Crushing Wave.
There was a low gurgle. A familiar one to the Argent Alliance members who landed here together.
Two large pinches burst from the waters surface, snapping violently. Xalkas would immediately be able to identify it as a Chuul! The same kind of beast that smashed 2/3 of your boats.
The newly freed prisoners would in fact be able to account for their original possessions with the exception of any coin they may have had on their person.
