For ‘hardened’ adventurer’s ‘storming through’ the Cult, Leonardo’s first impression of them is shifting. They appear quite tentative and looking to them quite a bit to hand out all the answers. “As mentioned, it’s used for prisoners.” The lizardfolk can’t help but shrug to Flux’s questions. “I’m no soldier.” They then look down over themselves with a gesture. “I’m not assigned to handling, or watching over prisoners.” They andjust their attire. “And rather cared to keep my distance.” With it being a prisoner holding area, it would be fairly safe to assume that it’d have some source of food.
Flux’s knowledge of the subject was quite basic. He indeed could agree that it sounded like an insect type of beastie. And like many bugs, can be expected to roam around dark, dank areas such as this.
Kerric apologizes and turns to position himself to begin his shuffle back, his armour clinking along with him. He’s face to face, chest to chest with Ebele to start his squeeze back through the corridor when he’s hit with a reminder…
Surprise VS Kerric Attack: 20 Damage: 3 Dex ST VS DC11 to avoid being tickled by it’s antennae
Antennae. The rust monster corrodes a nonmagical ferrous metal object it can see within 5 feet of it. If the object isn't being worn or carried, the touch destroys a 1-foot cube of it. If the object is being worn or carried by a creature, the creature can make a DC 11 Dexterity saving throw to avoid the rust monster's touch.
If the object touched is either metal armor or a metal shield being worn or carried, it takes a permanent and cumulative −1 penalty to the AC it offers. Armor reduced to an AC of 10 or a shield that drops to a +0 bonus is destroyed. If the object touched is a held metal weapon, it rusts as described in the Rust Metal trait.
As if taunted from the mist, an insect with a body covered in thick, lumpy armor, with a long tail ending in a bony protrusion, and two feathery antennae sprouting from its insectile head lurches from the pit. Its pincers lash and snap at the armoured elf while its antennae practically shiver with excitement.
Stories from the dwarves, whispers of their fears echo in Kerric’s elvin mind. He remembers dwarves would rather face a squad of orcs than confront a single specific monster... This specific monster…. A rust monster. These strange, normally docile creatures corrode ferrous metals, then gobble up the rust they create. In doing so, they have ruined the armor, shields, and weapons of countless adventurers.

When it came to his precious armour, Kerric was naturally nimble and perfect in his execution to avoid being subject to a rusting. He dipped, dived and dodged despite the tightest confines of the corridor with Ebele. As for the monk, the close proximity of the sound of Kerric's armour scraping against the walls of the tunnel combined with the haste and intensity in which he had to maneuver around her left her head spinning. It's like she wasn't sure which way the monster was!
Flux responds to Kerric's warning by scrambling for cover. The nearest individual the healthily clad genasi could he could find cover behind was the long, lithe, lizardfolk Leonardo. Aghast, they correct their monacles. Upon further inspection and their eyes adjusting to see the monster for themself, the scholarly lizard shudders and flails with a high pitched 'eep!', practically leaping out of their skin into Flux's arms.

Once it had a whiff of Kerric's fine metals, it wanted him bad. This left no time for anyone to breathe. The rust monster, practically giddy with excitement, lashes out immediately into the tight quarters with wild chittering of their pincers and shivers their 'tennae.

In an effort to protect Ebele, and Kerric’s shiny armor, Xalkas would try and wriggle his way up to the beast. (25 ft of movement total)
Once in melee range he will cast shocking grasp, hoping that the shock might stun it long enough for the rest of the group to take it down. (I know it doesn’t stun mechanically per the rules but I like the idea of that)
Lewin tries to get close up to this beastie. This was a nightmare for many warriors. He’d been scared by several things today but this was not something that made him afraid. He presents himself to the beast, with no real metal to speak of. A shadow passes across his visage, and the party can see the nightmarish affect of Lewin come to the fore. He casts primal savagery and long shadowy claws seem to emerge from his fingers. They move fast to rake across the rust monster’s face.
Attack: 9 Damage: 16
He tries to shield the party from the monster with his presence.
Flux catches Leonardo reflexively and together stands back looking completely horrified as the monster flailed its little feelers for Kerric. Unfortunately, apart from shifting aside for anyone trying to brush their way past to the forefront to fight, the Water Genasi could not muster the nerve to do much else except watch and pray to Vulkur for safety through the sudden storm of destruction! And even if its soundly and swiftly smashed to pieces, such was his heightened paranoia at the time, that Flux wouldn't even begin to relax without it either being turned to ash or otherwise removed from sight.
Action:Ready to move away from the Rust Monster if it appears to start moving in Flux direction.

Kerric shows no mercy. He strikes with full ferocity. His intents were clear. Take out this Rust Monster before he can take another strike against his precious armour. Each slash of his curved blade cuts the beast down a size.
It takes all his movement to weave his way between Ebele and Kerric’s legs to the front, but Xalkas bravely breaks through. Electricity arcs between antennae and flows through it’s body. The gnome’s so shocking, he stuns the beast, cooking it in it’s place.
Lewin, ready, savagely rushes through to the front to present himself… for dinner? Steam seeps from the carapace shell.
Meanwhile Leonardo and Flux cling together for support, ready to flee should the Rust Monster dare move.
Kerric carefully checks his armor for rust or other tarnishing flaws, stepping back well out of the range of any death twitches of those frondy appendages. He tries to calm his breathing and not give away how badly he was...uh..."concerned" about losing his trusty armor.

"Is it... is it dead dead?"Flux nervously while slowly releasing his grip on Leonardo. "Not to sound like a bore, but maybe someone, uh... someone maybe aughta stab it a few more times for good measure?"He further suggests. If none however follow through on it after a few moments, the genasi grumbles and grudgingly peels away from Leo to get up close enough to drool a bit of acid onto the corpse. When it sizzles but fails to move, only then does he allow a sigh of relief to escape.
"That's that then! Let's get down into this 'prison' then and get ourselves comfy. And somebody drag the body in to. Can't be letting any passing cultist stumbling on it and figure'n somethings up, eh?"He commented. And so bolstered was his spirit that, after figuring out the ledge situation, Flux opted to be the first to clamor down into the pit, if there seemed to be any handholds to speak of.

Ebele stands a bit turned around from the flurry of action around her. It takes a moment for her to eventually spin the right way when she’d hear Kerric take a step back to collect himself. At Flux’s prompt, she’d calmly take her staff to poke at the creature. And if she was honest, it smelled like a freshly steamed dinner. Sensing a few prods weren’t satisfactory enough for the spooked genasi, the blindfolded monk then takes hold of her weapon with both hands and starts wailing on the dead creature. The antennae snap and it’s shell cracks open. It was dead.
Now let down, Leonardo clears their throat and corrects their attire. They step aside with an acknowledging nod to Flux as the genasi pulls away to make his way down the hall. While Ebele’s demonstration was plenty proof it was dead, in all honesty it wouldn’t stop him from aciddrooling on the rust monsters face, sizzling on contact, for extra good measure. Satisfied and ‘wiping his hands’ of the beast, Flux leads the way down.
Cold and moist, it was a bit precarious to find one’s way down the pit. It was steep, slippery and difficult to see, even for one with an affinity for this environment. There were a few times Flux’s fingers and feet fail to find foothold but he’d catch himself before falling to the bottom. Finally, stretching out the tips of his toes, he’d feel the bottom. It was there. He was 10feet deep.
Similar to above, a low, thin mist clings to the floor of this pit, and the walls glisten with moisture. Several sets of crude bronze manacles are anchored to the walls, and three hold haggard human captives. The captives are unconscious, although they groan and writhe slowly.
Lewin, sliding down the chute, goes to the captives and does his best to break them free. His long hands are gentle and he makes soothing noises but few words. How long have they been here?

Flux clicks his tongue at the sight of their being actual prisoners, but is quick to put on a smiling veneer and join Lewin's side in tending to the prisoners. But with neither keys or a desire to use more extraordinary means of freeing them, he'd call back to the others, "We be have'n three live ones it seems! Tho' they be seeing better days, to say the least, and could use some manacle breakers, if any of ya have the mind and skill for it." Having said all that, Flux sets about at least giving the human a closer once over just to make sure the didn't have weird eggs on their bodies or were contagious in some way.
