Irenia waits until everyone is awake. She wishes Tyriel well and adds that he shouldn't just stand outside in the cold rain or he'll get sick. She presents everyone with the notes. "I found these while investigating the house. "It looks like the lady of the home had a secret lover, one who can provide for her. They planned to meet at some point. Perhaps the woman was at the bar to meet this lover."

I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
In the early morning, Genesh emerged from his shell and gets himself some breakfast then spoke to all of his companions but primarily Aishela and Irenia sharing what he has discovered while he learns what they might have uncovered. Examining and reading the notes that Irenia had found and then the tortle took out the Pike's Pearl and handed it over for both Aishela and Irenia to examine more closely, "I found this inside a river fish... it radiates strong magic and the old woman, the alchemist called it a Pike's Pearl and said that Druids highly prize them. Beyond that, I don't know what to make of it but I am hopeful that it may prove of some use to us in our investigation in the hands of whoever may best make use of it."
(6:30 AM) With Tyriel departing, it was understood there wasn't much more to be gained from the two story house. If there were another detail to be noticed, surely he would have found it by now.
Regarding the letter, going into town recalls the voices and speech patterns of each of the towns folk. Both the guard and the guard captain were formal, but not rigid. The banker was business like, but casual. Holly and the Alchemist were both casual and laid back. There was also the other smith and he was rigid, and informal.
Last, but not least, was the Inn keeper, who was both formal and rigid. A perfect match for the letter.
Considering this, you revisit the Alchemist who redirects you to the Tavern site where the new one is being constructed. Walking up, you see the crates have been moved and revolving wheel barrels of dirt are being dumped into the basement by two construction workers.
Behind the tavern, tying down an already very much packed cart, is the Inn Keeper.
When you walk up to the construction workers, they tell you he asked them to fill it up, and that he had cleared the space last night. After that they insist they must return to work as he's already paid them, and they are on a schedule.
A few more feet and he makes eye contact with you within speaking distance. He quickly pulls the rope tight, securing the cloth cover well over the cart, and walks up to you.
When asked about the letter he maintains he had nothing to do with it. There is guilt ridden all over his face. He switches the conversation to whether or not you should stay in town, as the two men involved clearly aren't coming back.
While this conversation is taking place, some of you hear arguing in town, and the sounds of panicked shouts. Those of you who turn the corner see a human woman arguing with the Banker and the Guard Captain arresting another woman. They both make their way into their respective shops and as soon as they do, the innkeeper dismisses you all and goes back to messing with his cart.
He says he's leaving soon because he needs to put his belongings in a safe place. He saw some equipment that looked like tools to break in to the basement, and he's just going to use a bank in the harbor.
Olwer whispers to Elisha (or one of the others if the sneaky elf isn't nearby).
"I'll delay him if you want to take a peek under that canvas and otherwise poke about. "
He then approaches the owner of the torched tavern and tells him how disappointed he is that he wasn't able to play at the man's establishment. The bard will uses all his tricks of distraction and misdirection to get the man talking. About what really doesn't matter. Just keep him busy, invent reasons for proceeding more slowly with the trip, plant doubts about the safety of the road. Those savage elves in the woods...

If his attempt to delay the man is rebuffed, Olwer will use charm person.
(Sleight of hand versus the innkeepers ability to tie down the cart?)
Dex? 3
The inn keeper was having trouble tying it down and Elisha capitalizes on this. Before being tackled to the ground, the mage hand revealed some extremely shiny gemstones. They appear to be some kind of white crystal. They look nearly identical to the kind that the Elves use for light in their town, but much bigger. The inn keeper then swiftly covered it.
Genesh listened as Ireniana talks and questions one of the guards who is arresting the woman. Then the tortle looks over at the guard captain who seems noticeably quiet while the woman sits there in the cage behind the guard. Genesh walked up to the captain and politely Persuasion16 asks, "what's really going on here? Something just doesn't sit right but it's your town I guess. I feel you are an honorable man at heart if you'd care to unburden yourself and enlighten me, it would be most appreciated."
Olwer puts on a look of indignation. He makes no move to escape or resist the guards.
Instead...
"Assault? Ridiculous! I will expect you to argue your case before a magistrate, tavernkeeper. I am perfectly happy to remain in town and cooperate with the guardsmen if you will do the same. Otherwise you ought to retract your hasty words."
(7:10) Irenia, Genesh, & Aishela walked over to the guard post. Irenia questioned the Guard and Genesh questioned the Guard Captain. Guard said what he said, Captain began to show a kind of remorse, then immediately sprung to his feet. At the same time, Olwer & Eisha had just finished speaking with the innkeeper.
(7:11) Irenia, Genesh, & Aishela watch the two guards leave the post. Olwer casts Charm person, Eisha casts Mage hand.
(7:12) Irenia, Genesh, & Aishela watch the guards tackle Olwer and Eisha.
(7:15) The guard captain insists you be quiet and berates you for attacking a well known member of the community. They lead you two away back to the cell where the woman is locked in. You all see the innkeeper pull away, and leave for the direction of the river.
(7:25) You clear the air about what just happened and the guards feel like idiots. They let you two out, but keep the woman in. When the Captain tries to speak with Genesh, the other guard pulls him away and explains that they should try to inform the elf town about the Innkeeper and his crystals. The Captain agrees, following the guard to the Alchemist and leaving through the woods with her.
(7:30) The Guards locked up the post, leaving the woman inside with a blanket, food, and water. The construction workers continued on the new Tavern, and the remaining shop keeps tended their stores. Holly comes running out to wave at Olwer for his new blade, then back in with a smile.
Irenia will ask the guards if she can question the woman who was arrested. "I'd like to speak with her and ask her some questions. Perhaps we can find this person she spoke of."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Genesh shakes his head and seeks to go after the innkeeper who had headed off in the direction of the river hoping to catch up to him or at least pick-up some sign, tracks or what have you Survival22 of his trail.
Olwer accepts his new blade. "Thank you, Mistress Holly."
He then tells the others, where the guards cannot hear him,
"I think Genesh has the right idea. Some of us should follow that tavern-master with the cart. We have reason to suspect him now, not that we didn't before. In a wagon, he may not be moving too quickly for us if we hustle, and he's probably staying on the road."
(7:16) Genesh follows immediately after the innkeeper, once again speedily leaving a fishing line behind him. The swiftness of his foot cannot be overstated, he was like the rushing river, flowing about the rough terrain.
(7:28) As the Guard puts the lock on the door, Irenia protests, asking to speak with the girl. The guard refuses noting that it might be or it might not be a good idea, but he's already locked the door and they must hurry after the innkeeper.
(7:31) Genesh stops the innkeeper 15 minutes from the village towards the river. They are in a tunnel of trees where the innkeeper has simply ran out of breath. The two of you running in this forest with such haste attracts the attention of the local wildlife, with many birds and other small beasts scattering in the moments after. The area is soaking wet and muddy all about, the dead tree coverage and cloudy sky allowing for some of the crystals light to shine through the thin fabric.
(7:35) Holly graciously bows giving him the blade. As Olwer and Elisha conspire outside to follow into the forest after Genesh and the Innkeeper.
Once the tortle caught up to the innkeeper Genesh noted the light shine through the thin fabric covering the cart. The tortle turned his gaze towards the innkeeper, "where are you going in such a hurry, my friend? I hope you don't mind I followed you but from what I can tell these woods are pretty dangerous and it looks like you got some precious cargo there and could use a hand with moving it... as well as some protection guarding it against any bandits or brigands that might show up. So where are you headed?"
Genesh speaks in a friendly non-critical helpful manner as he offers his assistance... not looking for any trouble, merely to find out more about what the innkeeper is up to, where he is going, etc. The tortle makes no threatening moves but prepared for trouble should the man take exception to be followed and seek to threaten Genesh or attack in which case only then will the tortle seek to defend himself.

Ireniana is going to talk with one of the guards who are arresting the woman. "Why are you arresting that woman?"
I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Guard: "She's been trouble since she's moved in, and she's just now admitted to murdering her husband."
Woman: "No! I said if you don't let me go he'll never be found! They're waiting for me to-"
The guard pushes her into the cell block, silencing her for the time being.
Guard: "There, you've heard it, she's trying to hide the body and thinks she can intimidate us into letting her walk."
The guard captain remains noticeably quiet while the woman sits there in the cage behind the guard, face full of rage.
Olwer whispers to Elisha (or one of the others if the sneaky elf isn't nearby).
