It should be noted that everything Genesh said is pretty much true the only thing that he outright lied about that would be depictive is about the stolen pipeweed! But above is the deception roll.
They believe that you are investigators looking for something large in a bag and are 100% positive Genesh just lied about the pipeweed.
The thinner lets out a loud roar, deeper than you'd thought possible for the size. Suddenly, their eyes flooded with a dull yellow glow, removing pupils entirely. From their skin bursts thick patches of brown fur underneath arm wraps, and from their hands burst black claws tearing the gloves. Their back swelled to the size of a swollen barrel, shredding its armor to peices. Before you all now stood a fully grown Brown Bear. It snarls in aggressition but remains still.
At the same time, the larger of the two took off running with the bag deeper into the forest. Its clear by panicked stride this person is unsure if where they are going, but wishes to escape by any means nessarcy.
Olwer swallows his shock at the smaller stranger's ursine transformation and throws a sleep spell centered on the other one.
OOC note: I read the DM post as meaning only the smaller guy transformed into a bear. If they BOTH changed, he will not use the sleep spell but will instead cast true strike on the nearest hostile figure.
If Genesh is successful then he will look to give chase to the one that transformed into the Brown Bear assuming he might be a Druid and possibly have information regarding the Pike's Pearl as his motivation and reasoning for following that one. A Druid might be tempted to help the group if tempted by the pearl. Just considering various options and possibilities.
Elisha and Olwer fail to catch up to the fleeing formerly larger one as Olwer's spell cast throws him off balence. The magic settles over the panicked runner but appears to unaffected.
Genesh swiftly rotates from looking at one side of the battle field to the bear. It continues to stand there, menacingly growling at you all.
Elisha will nod at Olwer saying: "Aye, splitting the party would probably be a bad idea, besides we can hopefully track the big one. Lets head back to the others."
The bear stops growling. It puzzles for a moment, then stands on two legs calmly. It reaches a paw out at the gem, and draws it back. The bear turns its back to you and drops to all fours. It walks two steps, and carves drawings on the ground without a word.
It takes a moment but the druid draws an intricate ring, and a fungal well spring erupts from the ground in a brilliant display of purple, blue, and neon sea foam green flecks. The bear stands once again on two legs, and begins to flow and shift as if wading through a thick river of heavy sludge. From the glowing thick petals, a staff that looks as if its made of willow tree branches in a wicker pattern slides out like a sword from a sheath. The bear lifts it high into the air as it finishes its motions and the fungal growth pulls back, the colors fading back into the ground of winter, and the bloom withering to grey.
The bear turns around with the staff, walks just before Genesh, and drops to all fours once again, placing the staff in front of it. It lowers its head deeply, and speaks,
“Let me leave, I apologize, we will drop the man.”
Genesh watched in awe as the scene with the bear unfolded before his eyes. Though it was not really what the tortle expected at all to happen he remained calm, mostly because it piqued his curiosity even more!
The tortle paused as he gazed at the bear with head lowered and responded, "tell me your name then and be sure to keep your word to drop the man... and you have my leave to go in peace."
The bear says its name is bear noise before nodding several times and running into the forest making more bear noises after the other one.
Elisha and Olwer see that the bear has a panicked look on its face as it stumbles passed them, much MUCH slower than either of them were going and definitely far too slow for the runner. The furry mass lumbers into the bushes out of sight and the two of you hear bears noises for along while as it fades into the distance.
Genesh looks down at the mysterious staff the bear left behind on the ground puzzled at first then looks at the Pearl in his hand and proceeds to bend down and gingerly place it where it looks like it will fit without dropping... in the spot encircled in wicker roots.

"It could be my imagination, but that bear looked worried."
The roots twist tightly around the gem, encircling it safely within the top like a crystal ball on a wizard's staff.
This is no wizards staff, nor do you feel is it that of an ordinary druid.
Genesh, you are certain this is another step towards some ultimate goal as a flood of mystic willpower flows from it into you. There's the sense of accomplishment, though you do not understand why.
Then, the staff grants you, amoung other unknown properties, the distinct and powerful urge to return to the River, specially at Dusk. (4-6 PM)
While this is happening, everyone else sees Genesh hold it to the Sky, and chant unintelligible words as the crystal glowed a bright green within its wicker nest.
Irenia nods at Genesh. "That looks about right." The tortle turned back and nodded, then tilted his head slightly to the side as he admired the staff and the pearl, "I don't know, somehow seems a little lopsided but it will have to do I guess. I can't explain it... but I also seem to have this strange and very compelling urge to head to the river at dusk... as if something is going to happen or be revealed. What do you think? And you did hear the bear say they that they would drop the man, right? Did you happen to catch the bear's name, I couldn't quite make it out." The tortle asked looking a bit puzzled...

Genesh Deception 4
It should be noted that everything Genesh said is pretty much true the only thing that he outright lied about that would be depictive is about the stolen pipeweed! But above is the deception roll.
They believe that you are investigators looking for something large in a bag and are 100% positive Genesh just lied about the pipeweed.

Elisha holler's: "RABBITS!"
Elisha will give chase to the big man with the sack while drawing his short bow yelling: "Stop! we don't want to hurt you."

If he can Olwer dashes to narrow the gap with the fleeing man. But if he must cast sleep at a disadvantage, he will. Centered on the man.

A Druid might be tempted to help the group if tempted by the pearl. Just considering various options and possibilities.
Irenia is going to stand by, ready to attack in case things go south.
I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Olwer skids to a halt, boots turning leaves and earth.
He draws his sword and turns to Elisha,
"If we chase what we can't see, we might blunder into an ambush. Go back to the others?"
Genesh stares back at the bear unfazed and reaches into his pouch and pulls out the Pike's Pearl and holds it up for the bear to see!
Elisha will nod at Olwer saying: "Aye, splitting the party would probably be a bad idea, besides we can hopefully track the big one. Lets head back to the others."

Genesh lets the bear leave...
