Round 3:As the initial shock of what they have seen on this night wears off, the group of bards on stage look to each other. Grim determination spreads from one face to the next, and they nod in silent agreement. The bass begins to drop, and they launch into a battle song:
The music pumps through the courtyard, giving each of you a Bardic Inspiration die, a d6. (Once within the next 10 minutes, the creature can roll the die and add the number rolled to one ability check, Attack roll, or saving throw it makes.)
On Thurk's turn: The barbarian feels the stinging pain of the trolls venomous bile on his skin and lets out a gutteral scream of RAGE(!) and attempts to grapple the creature: thurk rolls for grapple:24 (forgot to roll w/ adv, oh well, lol)
Troll contests at disadvantage due to hex(i think...):13
Thurk makes his second attack action, and squeezing the monster tightly , he(much to the chagrin of those of you that see the action) bites it in the face. Attack: 25 Damage: 17
thurk takes 9 dmg (halved)from the ichor that drips from the troll's face, but does not release his toothy grip on the hideous beast.
Righteousness sees that the situation is going to pot, so he advances 30 ft. and for his action, uses thautamurgy to be, well, clever. (dunno if i have to roll for this, but bear with me. could I make a lightning storm's "CRA-KOOM" noise take place right inside the troll's head?)
As the barbarian's teeth sink into the troll's face, the sound of thunder echoes from within the creature's skull, causing it to shake it's head. it takes an additional 5 damage from the bite due to the movement.(ooc:<?shrug emoji here> sounds cool to me, lol)
Thurk takes an additional 10 dmg(5) from the splatter. his face continues to shield Jhoni from the spray for the time being.
Tegid seeing the troll move murmurs and casts Entangle on the ground at the trolls feet (if under 60' away). The ground springs forth with vines etc and becomes difficult to traverse.
(strength check of 14 or troll restrained)
OYT: troll str check at disAdv: 6 the troll becomes grappled by the vines that grow up around it's feet.
OCC Does Tlak-Shik fet an AoO as the troll moves away from him? If so -- Attack: 15 Damage: 6
Tlak-Shik will make a short dashing leap and slice the troll from right to left in a short hard slash, designed to minimize any slash of troll ichor.
Attack: 11 Damage: 12
OOC: edited round 2 recap to reflect dmg to troll from op atk)
OYT: You run to the aid of Thurk and Jhoni, hoping to finish the troll. you slash at it, but direct the blade away at the last minute to avoid slicing the barbarian.
edit: since you had a bardic inspiration die available, ill let you add a d6 to this attack roll if you want to use it, and/or since you are flanking the creature i believe you's get adv on the roll anyway. Rolling for succinctness : adv roll: 12 Bardic Inspiration: 1
edit: At first you are not able to find a clean strike, but hearing the driving rhythm, you are able to stab the creature directly in the spine for 11 dmg!
Tanogar flees the scene(OOC:Another one bids Androll adieu...man, players just dont like big parties, huh? Meh, i get it, chaos isnt for every one...lol oh well. )
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
On Gling's Turn:
The sound of gears winding becomes louder and Gling's mechanical armor shell expands as Gling activates his RAGE(!) and charges the troll. He brings his Maul down in a swinging Arc: Attack: 7 Damage: 8
swing and a miss.
uses his inspiration(not bardic) and adds Bardic inspiration die to the roll: 10 + 1
The warforged Barbarian tries desperately to strike the troll without harming his new found companions, but cannot land the strike.
Koric shakes his head and mumbles to himself, Third time lucky...
This time he moves about 15' closer to the Troll before casting his spell, then moving back into cover.
Attack: 16 Damage: 1 (fire)
(( It looks like there are columns either side of the table; if so, Koric will take cover behind the one nearer to the Troll ))
Once more, he shouts at the crowd, "Leave, or throw things at it. Otherwise, you are in the way."
Persuasion (if applicable): 17
OYT: You fire a glancing blow at the troll, doing 1 dmg to it. The crowd hears your reasoning, and many of them finnally make their way into the temple, while others make their way past the troll to the courtyard exits near the stage area. those that remain take heed of the other half of your command, and begin to throw small rocks and food at the troll, doing another 1 damage to the beast, but also hitting Thurk in the process. He takes 1 dmg as well.
The commotion of battle was in sway! Elric Moves to his right next to a pillar and eyes down the horrid thing. "Steel is my body, and fire is my blood." The albino Half-Elf chants in a calm practiced tone. A deep purple hued geometric design glows on the his right hand gripping the stone. Purple Ichor seeps from the designs on his hand into the stone, all the while his eyes never leaving the target. With calm intensity Elric lets lose another stone, missing but still determined. He then uses the pillar for cover, standing on the opposite side of the well crafted beautiful piece of work, leaving enough of his head exposed to still see the battle.
Behind the Curtain:
Action: [attack] with one Magic Stone9 Dealing 10 +2 (Hexblade's Curse) Magical Bludgeoning Damage + 3Necrotic Damage (hex) = 15 0 Damage for what I'm sure is a miss.
As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. The target is cursed for 1 minute. The curse ends early if the target dies, you die, or you are incapacitated. Until the curse ends, you gain the following benefits:
You gain a bonus to damage rolls against the cursed target. The bonus equals your proficiency bonus.
Any attack roll you make against the cursed target is a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20 on the d20.
If the cursed target dies, you regain hit points equal to your warlock level + your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1 hit point).
OYT: the magic stone shoots wide as a member of the crowd runs past you, forcing you to change your aim. The troll is now cursed.
((Can I add the bardic inspiration to the attack roll? Edit, nvm on second thought, I'll save it. Also I threw a magic stone not a fire bolto lol. Rock Man strikes again, but I actually missed. Ok I'll go away. Also, sorry to see another drop out. Sad face.))
Jhoni: unarmed strike 1 misses, 2nd atk hits for 4 dmg, the attack does not trigger the poison spray
Gling rages, swings, misses.
Elelyel: Firebolt, hits for 8, negating the troll's regenerative abilities
Elric: misses with a firebolt, applies hexblade's curse to the troll.
TlakShik: attacks the beast from behind for 11 Damage. The poison spray falls to the floor (5ft reach)
The Troll: In a panic to free itself from the Barbarian chomping it's face the Troll directs it's Bite and both claw attacks to Thurk:
Bite:Attack: 20 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Claw 1: Attack: 11 Damage: 12
Claw 2: Attack: 20 Damage: 14
Mallus: Firebolts the troll for 11 damage, the beast hits the floor, dead, tangled in vines with a bloodies barbarian still latched on to his face
Nivlen fires a pair of bolts as the creature falls, and two more firebolts slam into the creatures corpse. (After all you can never be too careful when killing a troll ;-) )
CONGRATULATIONS!!! You have successfully taken down a Venom Troll:
Bloodied, Thurk stands and turns to cheer at all of you, but as he does, what you see horrifies you. Through the dripping venom of the troll, Thurk's appearance has changed. You feel as if a veil has been lifted from your mind, and you collectively realize you are seeing the Barbarian's true visage for the first time:
Even the bards halt their cheering as the remaining members of your party realize that you have been fighting along side the largest Illithid you have ever seen, though most of you know it in the common tongue to be called...A MIND FLAYER!!! <DAH NA NAAAAAAAA!!!!>
The silence in the courtyard is deafening, and Thurk looks at you with sadness in it's cephalopodian eyes. "I's sorry, my friends. I did not mean to decieve you. Please, you must believe me when i say i have no ill will or intention of harming any of you..."
This concludes session 2, gonna post xp, allow any additional resolution from combat(auto heals, eg hexblade curse, etc) and then session 3 starts as soon as you are all ready.
each of you receives 290 xp for the slaying of the venom troll, rounded up to an even 300 for never letting him near the crowd, and attempting to get the crowd to flee the area.
Feedback question: Is there anyone else who is less than pleased with the size of the party at 10 PCs? I was unaware that some people get anxiety about this kind of thing, but so far i've had 3 players decide to bow out, so if anyone else is thinking of leaving, just please let me know before we start the next, "session", so i can scale the scenario appropriately, Other than that, I'd like to open up some table talk for a bit, like a Q&A session, so that if any of you have any questions about the story so far i can do my best to answer them(NO SPOILERS! lol)
mostly i would like to know if everyone is having fun, and if not, what suggestions do you have to improve the experience, especially in regards to keeping things organized on the thread. I try to respond to everyone as much as possible, but im sure ive missed a few posts here and there. I really want to make sure everyone feels that theyre getting relatively equal attention, but the whole PbP thing is definitely different than any other game ive DMed for in the past, so any feed back is really helpful in improving my DMing.
Let's say session 3 will start officially on Friday afternoon/evening, but if you guys wanna RP,maybe question Thurk about being a FREAKIN MIND FLAYER(lol, sorry im pretty proud of that twist), or talk to Mool or the Librarian, I'll still be here checking in a few times a day before then.
((Can I add the bardic inspiration to the attack roll? Edit, nvm on second thought, I'll save it. Also I threw a magic stone not a fire bolto lol. Rock Man strikes again, but I actually missed. Ok I'll go away. Also, sorry to see another drop out. Sad face.))
lol, my bad, i was really trying to wrap up the combat before i have to leave to go pick my daughter up at her mom's. im just happy nobody died, i didn't really wanna start the game off by killing a player. gotta save that stuff for when it's the most dramatic. ;-)
I think you are doing amazing and are on my all time top 5 DM's list. You are handling a very large size group with superb skill and attention. The only exception being that Elric does not know fire bolt lol. There were a lot thrown around and battle is always hectic, but for this many people, I'm amazed. This is one of my favorite games ever, honestly.
That being said, as there anything I can also work on. I feel I've put my foot in my mouth at least one and had a do/don't typo that felt icky and I'm sorry about that. If there is anything else please let me know. I hope the formats of my posts are ok as well.
I am very impressed at your skill at handling a party this large. I’ve never seen anything like it, so you’re setting a high bar for someone in the future to be measured against. I know I wouldn’t be able to manage it. I am quite enjoying myself, have no intention of (voluntarily) leaving, and am looking forward to more adventures/reveals. I have even been even trying to read between the lines to predict upcoming reveals/puns/dad jokes. I have an OOC working theory about Mib, but we’ll see. Ok, back to character ...
Nivlen, while stunned at the appearance of a mindflayer, has a few other concerns cross his mind.
1. Can the downed citizens be stabilized, if so he will be looking for Mool and team to be rushing to their aid.
2. Nivlen has a healing kit and will assist with stabilizing the fallen, if needed. Otherwise ...
3. How did the troll make it this far into the city? Is there a trail of destruction/death that spans back to the North Gate? Were guards lost?
OOC nah you're doing great. Big parties IRL can be tough too but I'm happy to keep going. Do far having fun.
I'm going to be out of range from Friday evening until about Sunday evening, taking family camping.
Tegid looks at Thurk with a small amount of distaste, and if not shock then a little disquiet at his deception. However being in touch with nature, Tegid can understand Thurk's reticence at first.
Tegid has some healing ability and will go and assist Nivlen.

we've lost a few players, and i cant run that many NPCs so it looks like everyone who is still here is as follows:
Mallus, Jhoni, Righteousness, Elric, Koric, Nivlen, Elelyel, Ai'ryn, Tegid, TlakShik.
