After breakfast, Robwin packs up his things and helps break down the rest of the camp. When everyone is ready to head out, he pulls out the hat of wizardry, and pulls it down onto his head (after keeping it stowed while in and around town).
The now-familiar whispers of all the spells held within are welcoming and reassuring to him. They murmur and chitter amongst themselves - like a class of pupils before the teacher comes in - but they quieten down shortly after the hat is on. Robwin seems to have gained some level of control over the item.
He has his mage armor up, and his Arcane Ward, already (from the night’s antics).
Just before he heads out with the others, he quietly casts minor illusion onto his open hand, and creates a tiny palm-sized image of Elsa. She’s frozen still like a tiny statue, and she has the look she had when she glanced up from her work and smiled, the last night he saw her...
Robwin dismisses the illusion and follows the others ((towards Rinn and Lia?)), while ritually casting comprehend languages and (if he has time) detect magic (that one is just for practice, but it might come in useful).
"Okay, so we're packing everything up then going to find Rinn? Can you not call him back with a spell or something? I mean, the cart and mules aren't going to go through that.", Blaire says pointing straight north into the trees, "and the path and castle are that way.", pointing to the rough path Glufs brought them too as the *way to castle* which goes roughly northeast almost 45° degrees angle away from Rinn & Lia due north.
"Or, maybe, could we start the cart up the trail and go after Rinn then cut across to meet the cart? That Will-O'-Wisp thing sounds bad and so do those blood sucking things. I haven't heard of either. I've seen a sea wraith; sounds similar."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eli goes to immediately dons his gear and breaks camp. He'll hastily stow everything he does not immediately need into the cart and start slowly making his way north looking for Rinn. Ikki will follow going from tree to tree. Looking carefully around at each stop.
Rinn, You hear Ikki and Eli once the get about a quarter-mile (1,320 ft) south of you. You can't see them yet and you can tell they're trying to be cautious and quiet. They are doing a poor job of both. You can still make out the two Will O' Wisps from your vantage point. You imagine it will be near impossible once the light of full dawn is filtering through the wood.
((oh that’s a good point! I forgot Lia was with Rinn. Let’s say Robwin heads along with Eli and Ikki (without Lia) and anyone else that wants to come along towards Rinn. And I’ll say Lia is with Rinn. I’ll leave the rolls as they are in case you need any of them. Thanks. Sorry lol))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rinn turns to Lia, "Do you think you can tell Robwin that they're being not so subtle? And maybe let him know that I'm going to lose sight of those things soon with the light."
He continues to watch the wisps for a moment more and thinks. He then sets his jaw and nods to himself. "Lia, better tell the others that I'm going to take some shots at those things. It'll take a little bit for the wisps to get to me. I'll move towards you all stealthily." With that, he gets out his longbow and aims up an arrow at one of the wisps, "Here goes," he whispers to himself, and looses the arrow.
(OOC - so I was figuring straight roll for attack? Disadvantage for long range, but advantage for hidden attack. Let me know if you want another roll.)
Robwin (and anyone with him) are 1,980 ft from Rinn's position
The party doesn't know what the young elf is doing.
[While your familiar is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically.]
This morning, Blaire and companions will follow TT's guidance. If she was up for tying the mules and cart to follow Robwin or hitching the mules and heading up the trail/path.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rinn watches as the wisps start darting around the clearing, but don't move towards him, "Hmm, I thought they'd make a move towards me. Strange." He shrugs and fires off another arrow.
(OOC - not sure if I'd still have the advantage from hidden/unseen, so I'll roll disadvantage for ease.)
Longbow Attack: 13 Damage: 7
He then tries to position himself in a hidden spot, either on this branch or another (Bonus Action - Hide Stealth: 22).
As the rest of the party wakes Wolfsong goes about packing up his while keeping his ears open for any word about Rinn form Robwin. Once he sees Eli and Ikki make their way into the trees Wolfsong swears and drops his gear in the cart then runs to catch up to Robwin seeing him following the other two.
Lia the Owl listens to Rinn’s instructions. She cocks her head to the side and does a slow blink that looks like a smile.
She swivels her head and can probably easily see and hear Eli and Ikki coming, and can probably even see and hear Robwin and any others coming too. Satisfied the party are on their way, she stays with Rinn.
She flutters about 20 feet south from Rinn though, and perches on a branch to watch the wisps.
Robwin looks around as he hears Wolfsong catch up. Quietly, he says, “Lia and Rinn haven’t come back... ..They’re ok. Lia would have come back if there was any trouble... ..If you squint you can almost see where they could be...”.
Despite his words, Robwin looks a little concerned, under the brim of his hat. If Lia was dead she wouldn’t have come back.... ... But he would know if that happened, surely?... Wouldn’t he? He’d feel something... Would he? He’s trying not to think about that. He keeps his eyes on the distance, looking for her tiny form or any movement.
Robwin continues his quiet trudge (along with anyone else heading that way) towards Rinn and Lia.
(( Meta: Rinn is still hidden. Investigation by both Wisps failed miserably. They each rolled a 7 w/ +1 to int. I immediately thought of Bethesda games "Is someone out there?" NPCs They are searching their immediate area for the cause of the harm. ))
(( Meta: For now, Rinn would roll straight - disadvantage for range and advantage for hidden - A natural 1 would be a critical failure. A 16 (10 +6) would not hit. ))
Robwin would have shared with the anyone who would listen during breakfast, Will-O'-wisps are strong, dangerous, fast, can be invisible, ...
Will-o’-wisps are malevolent, wispy balls of light that haunt lonely places and battlefields, bound by dark fate or dark magic to feed on fear and despair.
Hope and Doom. Will-o’-wisps look like bobbing lantern lights in the distance, although they can choose to alter their colors, or wink out completely. When they activate their lights, will-o’-wisps offer hope, hinting of safety to creatures that follow them.
Will-o’-wisps lure unwary creatures into quicksand pits, monster lairs, and other dangerous places so that they can feed on the suffering of their prey and revel in their death screams. An evil being that falls prey to a will-o’-wisp might become a wisp itself, its woeful spirit coalescing above its lifeless corpse like a flickering flame.
Consumed by Despair.Will-o’-wisps are the souls of evil beings that perished in anguish or misery as they wandered forsaken lands permeated with powerful magic. They thrive in swampy bogs and bone-strewn battlefields where the oppressive weight of sorrow stoops even heavier than the low-hanging mist and fog. Trapped in these desolate places of lost hope and memory, will-o’-wisps lure other creatures toward dismal fates and feed on their misery.
Agents of Evil. Will-o’-wisps rarely speak, but when they do, their voices sound like faint or distant whispers. In the miserable domains they haunt, will-o’-wisps sometimes form symbiotic relationships with their wicked neighbors. Hags, oni, black dragons, and evil cultists work with will-o’-wisps to draw creatures into ambush. As their evil allies surround and slaughter creatures, the wisps hover above them, drinking the agony of a last breath and savoring the sensation as the light of life goes out in a creature’s eyes.
Undead Nature.A will-o’-wisp doesn’t require air, drink, or sleep.

Robwin gets Lia the Owl to guide the party back towards Rinn. If they need to tie off the cart and animals somewhere he’ll help to do that.
As they get closer towards Rinn, he’ll indicate for the party to keep a low profile in case the wisps are still about.
