After convincing himself of that this room didn´t hold the buttons they are looking for Etrigan/Thessalar takes the folding boat and the helm and gets back to the Demogorgon which is hopefully still waiting a the top of the stairs. "Now let´s find Arse-Agard so that we can turn our attention to your stewards." Etrigan/Thessalar says to the Demogorgon, ushering it down the stairs. Perception with help from Grygaxx trying to avoid an ambush:26 He also uses the rod to regain the spent spell slot. As their cover is blown Etrigan/Thessalar also decides to stay at the back of the team descending the stairs, letting melee warriors like Huarace and Sam take the lead now.
(OOC: The helm and the boat is up for grabs and will probably be needed when we get down those stairs :-) The thessalkraken?)
This winding set of stairs leads down to a natural cavern system below the temple. The main cavern is filled with a vast subterranean lake, fed by the stream at area 2 (near the entrance, where the map and key were found with a skeleton.
The stairs end abruptly, opening up to a vast natural cavern deep beneath the temple. A pebbly beach extends toward the dark waters of a subterranean lake that fills the cavern, a cold wind blowing across it.
<Anybody have a light source out? I'm guessing no, since that would really hurt your stealth, but I thought I'd ask anyhow>
I don't know about the attunement.. some of my players are pretty steadfast about following RAW.
For me, it's more fun when stuff happens than when it doesn't, so in the interest of fun, I usually try to rule that things can and do happen. To this end, I'm willing to break RAW on attunement, but I think the trade off should be some kind of nerf - not in potency, but a limit to application, such as duration or the like.
Maybe this is a Kwalish item, with magical properties intertwined with mechanical enginuity, where the full item as written is usable after attunement, bit the nonmagical bits work without attunement.
it's like an old timey diving helmet, with a finite amount of air and non magical spot light instead of darkvision, which can be switched on or off manually as an object interaction requiring one free hand. If this is visible light the helm has 10 minutes of air or it can be infra red light with a special glass built in to see the reflected IR light, that has (edit) 10 minutes 1 minute (10 rounds) of air. This is because the battery inside can either power the IR CMOS and screen, or rhe air recycle (CO2 scrubber).
The item as described works as the standard one when attuned with a short rest. What do you think?
(Sounds good!). Tetrevess will carry the boat for now “I’ve read about these. Truly fascinating devices - as is this apparatus! Suppose we could get it going?”
(Edit- Tetrevess manifest mind has 60’ dark vision, he will send it out exploring across the water while seeing through its senses..Note it is glowing faintly looking like the disembodied head of an ancient bearded man..)

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The alluring gleam of treasure beneath the water compels you to draw near. Each creature within 100 feet of the the lake must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or move 10 feet closer to the thessalkraken if able to do so. (Voluntary failure allowed)
<I think we really need a map for this one. It's funny, though: it's just a big open lake, just a lot of importance on distance. Also, I think we'll have to use standard initiative here. >
From the murky depths a black tentacle extends toward the shore. The lizardman in the water feels the massive muscular appendage beneath the surface as it wraps around him.
Tentacle 3016 slashing damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 16). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained.

(OOC: I was imagining the Demogorgon at the end of the stairs and Etrigan/Thessalar a bit up in the stairs if that´s ok. As we can see the alluring gleam of treasure, can we also see the tentacle attacking Sam?)

Barril traverses the ceiling back to the top of the stars. At each stopping point, he will instinctively try to find a way to hide.

He will “think” to the group, “If you need an underwater scout, that helm would be most useful. And I volunteer for the duty, if it comes to it.”
(Dang, I need to save some of those rolls for when they’re really needed.)

"Good, you´d better go ahead and take the helm then." Etrigan/Thessalar messages Barril and hands over the helm to him.
Barril will accept the helm and telepathically say, “I will take good care of this.”
(Reading up on attunement, will you rule that Barril cannot attune to the item until after a short rest?)
