As A'kin pours Omiy a cup of tea, he smiles at Gearbox's comment, noting: "A rogue modron is about as believable as a friendly fiend." Handing Omiy the gold-leaf china tea cup to Omiy, he continues, "Perhaps you have confused me with another arcanaloth who resides here in Sigil. Shemeshka teh Marauder is King of the Cross-trade. She lives in The Lady's Ward, but I advise you not to cross her path. She is not known for her cordiality, so much as her cruelty. Don't be decieved by her grace and elegance, for her duplicity is well-known throughout the city. She sees petitioners nightly while dining at her table in Fortune's Wheel"
ooc: I seem to recall some mention of armor/: Nonmagical (thouhg high-quality) armor is best sought at Traban's Forge in The Lady's Ward. In addition to ordinary metal, he works materials seldom seen in prime worlds.
“Guess we know where we’re having dinner tonight, Fortune's Wheel, you said?” Omiy mumbles with biscuits in her mouth, as she sips down the hot tea and wipes the crumbs off her chin, “well thank you for your tea, we have somewhere else to go. We’re meeting someone, a map lady, I think. It was nice meeting you.” She grabs her three potions of healing and clips the clockwork ninja on her belt.
(How much money do we have? I might have missed it, but Leann has little to nothing for coin... She has only 50 GP. Did I miss where we got some large windfall?)
ooc: I have not been keeping track of funds. I just award coin as its written in the module. I had some elaborate formula at the outset that gave several thousands to those who started in Port Nyanzaru. For those starting later, since you got magic items directly, I'll just say you have 1500gp. For the others, I simply don't know. I know there was a bunch of adamantine in the forge and a literal horde in the dragon's den. I know you got the former and not the latter.
Gearbox, noting your longing stares at teh wares housed in The Friend;ly Fiend, offes the following: "Adamantine could be traded either at the armorer I mentioned earlier, or many places here in the lower ward, especially at the great forge, though being a less skilled lot of craftsmen, they have les value for it and as such will pay less. Within Sigil, gems are accepted as currency by almost everyone, so if you have any (I'm sure you found some, either loose or embedded in a mask). Electrum is worth the same as silver, which fiends (such as A'kin) are reluctant to take." Adding quietly, "A'kin, being a trader in magical goods would certainly be open to buying unwanted magical items or possibly bartering for them directly."
While nibbling on what might be a scone, A'kin replies to Omiy, "You adventurers are always running off somewhere! I guess that's a part of the life, eh? How many steps must you take in the space of a rotation? ... Actually, here. Let's find out. Please, take this as my gift to you, but if you find your way back to the cage, let me know, won't you?" he reaches into a drawer and shuffles the objects within for a moment, producing a metal bracelet, which he hands Omiy. "This displays the number of steps you’ve taken since your last long rest. Keep track of it in your journeys. I am always curious of such little things."
Huarache will cast Identify on that later, but not now.
I'll just tell you now. it's a FItbit. its a trinket from the Kwalish module. Nothing else, no divining, no curses. its just a fitbit, a simple gift from a friendly fiend. if you want, we can add that it can track your pulse, too.
So, I looked it up, and 30 is healthy for a young trained athlete. Otherwise, that is kinda low. However, Omiy has an STR score of 20 and absolutely gives me the vibe of "Happy-go-lucky 20-something," so I guess that's okay.
On the subject of armor, Wile, could you please tell me: did we get some of the armor in Hrakhmar before the fire newts returned and we ran? If so, what all did we get (i.e. plate, half-plate)? I feel like this has been glossed over any time it's brought up, but if we have magical armor already, then Huarache will go with Omiy to browse, and if we don't, then maybe to get some proper half-plate for himself, and while we're here, he's gonna look for a buyer of his Flame Tongue Scimitar and his Moon-Touched Sword, Longsword.
So, I looked it up, and 30 is healthy for a young trained athlete. Otherwise, that is kinda low. However, Omiy has an STR score of 20 and absolutely gives me the vibe of "Happy-go-lucky 20-something," so I guess that's okay.
Lol you looked it up.
Omiy's got adamantine plate, so she's set. I don't know how everyone else is. Omiy would gesture at the empty seat beside her and invite Huarache to sit. Gearbox just mentioned A'kin would take any unwanted magic items, and he seems like a good guy to do business with.
To summarize the Nyanzaruian armor debacle: Wile included ToA elements, like the fact that this is in Chult, and this included Hrakhmar, a dwarven forge taken over by fire newts. We kicked out some newts, then they returned in full force and we got out of there, but there was specifically mentioned to be dwarven plate, and we never really figured out whether we took it, with or without Huarache smithifying it to fit us better (or in his case, just modifying half of it because artificers only get up to medium armor) or with or without adding adamantine that the dwarves of Hrakhmar mined and refined.
That is a weird typeset issue, which suggests that it is not the magic item. I don't think I have it listed as a magic item for any individual (might have to double check that). I did say that adamantine coating plate would take more time than you had because of the many small interlocking pieces, though if you'd stopped at the second forge you would have had all the time in the world. If you want to hop across the street to the Hands of Time you can use some adamantine there and gear up some armor. There are also potentially exotic materials in sigil for armor. The armorer might be good if you wanted to trade in extra adamantine foe jink, or buy some kind of weapon.
A'kin would offer a fair price for the magic swords Huarache would part with.
We don't have to go back, just dictate what happened while we were still there. By the way, if anyone is interested, the city has a wide variety of lodging options, considering your arrival at near antipeak, subsequent crafting and trading the current time is around peak. I don't know if you'll prefer to sleep in light or darkness, but if you don't get some sleep, you risk incurring exhaustion.
Noticing the symbol of the timekeepers worn by several of the groups members, A'kin suggests the following: "You must be namers from across the alley. If your here looking for Shemashka I'm guessing you've met Estavan. Did he mention Zadara? She and Shemeshka are the bitterest of rivals, you know. Even if the cross-trade didn't effect Estavan's business with the Planar Consortium, he would most likely still be plotting something to try and force her into retirement just for Zadara's sake."
"Please stop by anytime." A'kin thanks HUarache, "Oh, and here, please, take this as my gift to you." He removes from his robe an unusual heraldic cloak pin that emits a short musical fanfare when tapped and hands it to Huarache.
ooc: So.. why do you want to sleep in a garage, surrounded by deadly slime, exactly? After some deliberation, I have concluded that it is entirely possible to do so, just slightly confusing. Gearbox can show you right where it was, but this city is a tourist destination catering to all types from across the multiverse. Here is a list of some places popular among Primes.
Golden Bariaur Fortune's wheel Heshter’s Arms The Whole Note Inn The Turby Inn Chirper’s
Did anyone want to try the armorer? exotic material armor (homebrew) or sell some extra adamantine or have the proprietor use it to improve your own gear? If you do go, ask for something specific by effect or flavor or I'll just post a sampling menu.
(I know my issue is that I don't know what we have or do not have. Are you letting us warp time and have done something in the past to get things? You keep mentioning that we should have done this or that, but, when those things were actually possible you threw things at us to keep us from doing so. I.E. had an army of fire people come at us just as we were finishing our long rest in the mines, having hostile enemies right behind us as we exited the mine, which is when we found that second forge, so, RP-wise, there was no way we 'would' stop there for any reason at all. Maybe I just didn't understand what was going on at those times, but our options seemed limited at both forges we had found. Now we were just given the chance to 'build' our own magic item for free, but, RP-wize again, I could either play my character as I see her, or force her to do something she would never do, thus being punished for RPing my character correctly.
Right now Leann has 50 GP to her name. I could see her trading out the winged boots for something else, like a cloak of protection or ring of protection, but she really has no other options here and now, as she has no funds or items to sell/trade. So, again, I think we need a more definitive answer to what we actually have and do not have.)
I as trying to keep things balanced but I'm now encouraging loads of powerful magic items in the hopes of encouraging players to act with less caution and more abandon. To this end, I gave you a story-supported way to make any magic item with multiple features, no chance of failure and basically any kind of homebrew on top of it. 3 players of 7 opted to make one. The contents of the store across the street are just there. There are loads of places to trade for money if you want to do that. If people want to go back to Hands of Time and make items, that's great. I posted links to Arcane armory and exotic crafting materials in the thread. I think they work. if they don't, tell me, please. You should feel like powerful adventurers at this point. Whatever item you need to make that happen - Go get it.
Most of those things are just how ToA is written. The hostiles in the mine refuse to go in the forge because it is haunted; they told you as much. Also, they were charmed and not hostile at the moment (at least a contingent of them). The forge itself was actually haunted by 6 (i think) wraiths. The setup seems to be presenting challenges that are met with rewards for those bold (or foolhardy) enough to face them, but present options for escape / noncombat for those with a different play style. Maybe a bargain with the dragon could garner some reward - depending on roleplay. Kill her and the kobolds are pushovers and the horde and forge are yours. Team up with the wild dwarves and take back Hrakhamar. They still exist, so given the time, if you can get out of the barrier peaks, you could all go back there and do those things.
Regarding bending space-time, I mean within the location. if we are in the city and you wanted to buy or sell something but didn't get to post before someone else posted "lets go to X..." then there is no reason to penalize that and your business should transact normally. In fact, the last place everyone was in my book is The Friendly Fiend, but some people want to go (maybe?) to the armorer or the inn or the garage. There is no reason everyone can't go everywhere they want to. I would like to stay in Sigil for a bit to get some exposition out and send you to the next mandatory destination in Kwalish, but the other route through the tall tower in Daoine Gloine is still open, you'll just have less story about who people are and why they are doing what they do (and possibly lack a helpful item or two).
