(Yeah, that's definitely good enough. He's ornery but generally harmless. He's realized he can mess with y'all safely by threatening to call the Watch, but has no interest in actually doing anything that would require him to put in more work.)
'Spooked by a gnome', Arthasis shook his head in disbelieve. It seemed like he wasn't the only one here, who was a little tense. For a brief moment he wondered why this was the case. The older gnome on the other hand looked a lot more annoyed than nervous. From what Menodora said, his name apparently was Auby, or something like that. More importantly, this little fellow threatened to call the city watch on them and that just couldn't happen.
"My friend here is right, good sir!", Arthasis gestured towards the dragonborn. "There is no reason to call the city watch. We will be on our way and won't bother you any longer.", the young man tried to sound as subdued as he could. "I am very sorry if we caused you any inconvenience."
(ooc: there are lanterns strung along the main street, so there's a bit of light to see by unless you turn down a side street.)
Eryn sees nothing else of interest along the street. It seems deserted, aside from Auby; the old gnome is clearly not of the same party-going spirit as his fellows. He hmphs at you all before a large yawn breaks his sour frown. Thus reminded of the late hour, Auby loses what little interest he had in you all and backs away back into the interior of the workshop. "Off with you," he snaps, making a 'shoo' gesture with his hands before he disappears into the interior of the workshop. After a moment, the clanging of his tongs stops and you are all left alone in the street once again.
"Well, that was... dramatic. I'm glad you saved us from the ferocious blacksmith. What do you say we go and have ourselves a drink and be anywhere besides the street?" Keaton pats Eryn on the back and smiles. "So! Do we want to head to the cushier Tavern that seems closer to where the action is or the Lodge which is just closer? I'll buy you a drink."

"I'm all for trying a new place in the Upper City! I've tried a couple of places around this area and the Lodge so it'd be nice to try a new locale and see how the other half lives so to speak." Aeros replies to Keaton. "While I don't know the exact location of the Tavern you mentioned earlier, I do know how to get to the Upper City; from there I'm sure it'll be easy enough to find." In truth, while did rather enjoy the company of the folks down in the Lower City, Aeros had felt that he had likely gathered all the information that he could from that area of town and would've needed to move-on eventually; this impromptu group just gave him the push he needed to do it earlier. For his journey to Hupperdook was not a social one, and he would find the answers that brought him to this particular city, one way or another...
Aeros will give the others a few moments to agree or disagree with the choice of venue. If there's no dissension, he'll begin to head in the direction he believes will be the quickest route towards their destination.
Relieved, Arthasis watched as the old gnome disappeared into his workshop. Even a little attention from the city watch was too much for his taste, especially because here in the Empire not even one watchmen would find himself on his familiy's payroll. Ironically, these days he was thankful for that, because it guaranteed his safety as long as he didn't do anything stupid. "I would gladly join you on the way to the Upper City.", he said to Aeros, for the single reason that he wouldn't find his way alone. "The Blushing Tankard mentioned earlier, sounds like the kind of establishment I would want to visit."
By now, Arthasis wanted nothing more than to get out of his traveling clothes and take a bath. He wouldn't mind something to eat and a good glass of wine either.
"Drinks it is!" Menodora retorts cheerfully, nearly clapping her hands together at the prospect of sharing a drink with new faces. Admiring the group for a moment, she can't help but find herself ecstatic at the idea of sharing their company -- if only for a little while. They were, after all, already far more interesting than any of the gnomes she had encountered on her own thus far.
A blush blossoms warm across her face almost immediately, and she clears her throat too obviously.
"I mean, if you all don't mind if I tag along for a drink. Of course."
Your course decided upon, the lot of you set off after Aeros towards the stairs to the Upper City. The Ironlot streets are all but deserted at this hour, though the closer you get to the stairs leading upwards, the louder the noise from the carousing uptown gets. However, as you turn down one of the streets Aeros swears is a quicker route to the stairs -and your drinks- the peace of the evening is shattered by a deafening CRACK! of a massive explosion that rocks the southeast part of the city. At the base of the mountain, shards of rock spray the street a hundred yards from where you all stand. Heavy smoke billows from a cavernous hole in the mountain wall, and as you all shake the ringing from your ears, six cloaked figures appear in the street. They are running madly, fleeing almost, from the source of the explosion - they are charging straight toward the party!
Keaton and Eryn - The world has narrowed to a thin, wailing ring after the explosion; you can both see the figures headed for you, but it takes a beat longer for the ringing to start wearing off, for sound to start to come back.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Reacting instinctively, Eryn moves towards the closest object where he will be able to either hide—or at least gain some cover—from the six approaching figures. He will then watch what the six cloaked figures do.
[OOC: Stealth roll for hiding if possible: 9 ]
If able, he will also ready an arrow on his bow but won't be pointing it anyone, yet.
Just to be clear: it would seem to Eryn that the six came out of the hole blasted in the side of the mountain and that the newly created opening has no lights shining out from the inside.
If that is the case, then Eryn is going to assume they have Darkvision. Are they all of general human height? Or are there gnomes or dwarves in the mix?

The hole itself has light coming from the inside - torchlight, one might assume. It does not reach very far out of the hole, however. The figures are cloaked, so Eryn would have no idea as to specifics on race at the moment, though there are five smaller figures and one taller one.
Keaton's blood quickens, "No no no no... This can't be happening..." He breathes deeply, calming himself as he tries to get a better understanding of what just happened. He looks at the cloaked figures, trying to determine if they mean ill intent. Blast this dark. It would be easy to... no. Absolutely not.

As far as Keaton can determine, the figures seem intent on running, mostly.
Hesitantly, Keaton says, "I... don't know what they're running from, but I'm pretty sure we don't want to be here when it gets here! Do we run or hide?"

This time he didn't miss it. The explosion was violent and deafening. When he finally pulled himself together, he could see a hole in the side of the mountain in front of them that hadn't been there before. Out of that new opening came six shady figures running towards the group. Arthasis didn't have to slightest idea what was going on. Was it some kind of industrial accident, some machine exploding and tearing a hole into the mountain?
Within seconds those figures would be upon them. Arthasis stepped to the side of the street making way for the shades running at him and the others. As he moved out of the way he yelled at his temporary traveling companions, "What just exploded over there?"
Aeros could hear the sounds of the Carpe Noctis in full swing as they drew nearer and nearer to the stairs connecting the Upper and Lower city. "I think the stairs are just arou..." he begins before an earth shattering blast fills the air. Dazed & stumbling for a second as the ground seemed to shift under him, Aeros looks around trying to discern the cause of the disturbance for a moment before discovering the massive whole in the mountainside. Confused about the situation and still unable to hear normally, Aeros will yell out to no one in particular, "What in the Hells was that!? Can anyone see anything!?"

Eryn says nothing but does put his arrow back in his quiver.
Still a little unnerved by the incident, he takes a good look around to see if he perhaps missed something else; perhaps the gnome is a diversion.

Later: Out of interest, what is the lighting situation in the area? He could provide light, if it is needed.
