Randrak is surprised by the captain's sudden disappearance, and is startled when she appears next to him. Randrak is not comfortable with all of this magic business. After taking a moment to recompose himself,
"Okay, well you've proven that my idea of an invisible assassin is certainly viable. And you have proven you don't need a potion. But could you in danger? Could you be the next target? Torvin brings up the mention of the collars around the necks of the dragons. I take it we think they are used to control the dragons? So did the dragons attack this ship under the command of someone else? Does the mastermind want you dead next?"

“The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules.” ― Gary Gygax
“True invisibility is rare and difficult to detect, but it has its downsides. For the most part is requires the individual to remain mostly inert. Any violent action for example will shake the spell free in all but the strongest of castings. One could open doors and the like but the that in itself could give them away. Alas I lack the skill to detect such a casting out of my line of sight. However,” he mutters a few words under his breath and his eyes briefly glow a pale yellow, “I can assure you that there is nobody in this room using such magic.”
”As to the collars,” Blackfire speaks, “Such devices are used in the fighting pits found in most Dwarven settlements of size. The collars and the pits themselves are outlawed, but the practice continues. I have never heard of a collar strong enough to tame a dragon however, and before you ask master Randrak, no I am not secretly the master of a network of outlawed fighting pits.”
”The runes on the device,” interjects Salvas, “are not Dwarven. They are related, but much older. I suspect them to be Duregar in origin.”
Blackfire considers your words Randrak, “I think the dragons are almost certainly being controlled. For me that fact is almost beyond doubt. The question is by whom? As to the danger to me, I suspect it is rather the ship that was the target of the recent attack. The goblins have overwhelmed the Capital along with the High Rock region it would seem, and that is a sore blow to Dwarven kind but not fatal. If their aim is our destruction then they need a way to cross the burning ocean. The dragons are a start but they are not a viable means of transport. To take a Stoneship... now that would be a step in the right direction.”
Salvas speaks the , “I suspect the Captain is correct, the ship itself was the true target. They knew to attack myself and Mender, which means they have made a study of the means by which we control the vessel. A worrying development indeed.”

"If the foe wished to control a stoneship would they not have to control someone like Salvas? Or have have an ally with such skills?" Mercwri adds to the general conversation. "It could well be that the ship became a target in an effort to keep word of the city's fall from getting out. Which means there might be efforts to do the same thing at other cities under way or in the works." He leans toward Salvas, "I would like the vial back when you are done examining it, if you please."
"What happens if they find a fire breathing dragon to control? Won't the lands be meaningless?" Hitticus interjects.
"Thankfully there are many small tunnels that the dragons can not venture into. We may be able to find someone who can tell us more about the collar when we get to the island. Captain, how much longer before we arrive?"
Uldran is starting to look like he wants off this boat and get some dirt under his shoes again.
Salvas hands back the vial to you Mercwri, but his words are aimed at Hitticus, "The prospect of them finding more dragons to tether to their will is one that should not be ignored." he shares a worried from with the Captain and you Torvin but says no more.
Blackfire answers your concerns Mercwri with a nod of agreement, "Wise words master gnome. The Firehook was the the only ship in dock during the attack and the only chance of word quickly reaching Guldroth. It is quite likely they would go to great lengths to prevent that."
At your words Uldran she smiles and there is a wicked glint in her eye, "So keen to be away Druid? We have two night yet to pass before we will see the walls of Duragath."
OOC: Any other words and actions before we bring the evening to a close?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Mercwri will wait until he can speak to the captain alone; "Um, your captainship, I would like to poke around a bit more t' see what I can find, along the lines of that vial, as it were. Not in any private places mind."
He will further snoop around, under things, in dark corners, checking all those places where an unsavory crittter might lurk while waiting to do their nefarious deed(s).

“Be my guest Mercwri.” The Captain replies with a warm smile and you set about your investigations. You all note that Uldran accompanies her to her cabin. Torvin, Hitticus and Freak you make you way back to your own cabins as the evening draws to a close. Randrak as you pass through the stores the quartermaster Voros catches your eye and with a broad smile hands back your silvered short sword. “Promise is a promise.” He says before heading off to the crew quarters.
An hour passes as the ship settles into slumber. Randrak you are deep into your evening meditation reaching out toward the presence you felt the other evening, but it eludes you. There is nothing but the silence of your own mind until like a sudden hot poker the word “danger,” sounds out just as a terrible explosion from the corridor without sends your door splintering inward.
(OOC: Hitticus, Freak roll Dex on a DC of 15, Randrak and Torvin do the same on a DC of 10. If you fail take 1d4 damage as your doors and segments of your walls explode inward showering you with stone and wood)
Mercwri while searching through the cargo bay once more you happen upon a crate that has been levered open. This is new you are sure, and peering inside you are shocked to find the body of a crew member, her throat slit and eyes wide open. Around her you see rags and discarded food leading you to believe someone has been hiding in here. Before you can raise the alarm however the door leading to the guest cabins explodes outward in a shower of splinters. You see something moving away from the doorway but as you turn toward it a snarl sounds from your right and a blade flashes toward you. It is the goblin prisoner somehow escaped. Attack: 17 Damage: 4 you are suddenly fighting for your life. (Roll for perception with disadvantage).
Uldran you are torn from a rather tender moment with the Captain by the sound of the explosion. “What the ****!” She manages before the door slams open and a tall dark figure steps into the room he holds a blade in one hand and a small bronze collar in the other.
Freak you are first to see that the source of the explosion is the Rune Shapers cabin. The room is a gaping ruin of smoke and fire and the charred remains of Salvas lie in the centre of it all. You hear the sound of fighting coming from the cargo bay. (Roll for perception with disadvantage).

Randrak is still unsure about things but keeps quiet for now. He has seen Captain Blackfire fight, and cannot help but respect her for that.
He decides to return to the cabin, and once again try and communicate with the dragon that he encountered the night before.
