Randrak strokes his beard for a moment pondering the situation, "Aye." He simply says to begin with. "I don't understand magic and I won't pretend I do. Neither am I particularly fond of magic. However, if what you tell me is true, then I will protect this statue."

“Must bes very strange to crumble into a statue,” Mercwri says, scratching his head. “I heard o’ things that change t’ wolves ‘n such, but a statue? That’s weird.” He finishes getting his equipment organized, making sure he has his weapons to hand. “So Reggarn, where away?”

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
After some consideration Reggarn chooses to take you all back to the road before heading further out toward the monastery. Several hours pass as you retrace the steps of yesterday but eventually you find yourselves moving west at a decent pace. You have been travelling for most of the day and it is approaching the late afternoon when you all begin to hear movement up ahead.
You can not see the cause of the noise as the road takes a sharp bend around a rocky outcrop ahead, but it does sound like footsteps. Several of them, heavy and growing closer.
Freak moves to the side where Dvori went and sits on the ground. He takes off the boots and starts massaging his feet. He has blisters. "Yes, a lot of walking since I've escaped."
Randrak does not take a moment to relax. Instead his body tenses up in preparation of what could be coming around the bend. It might be nothing, but he will not be caught off guard. Not out here.

Mercwri will move behind everyone, slightly upslope to the road, giving . . . somewhat unobtrusive cover with Alanis’ crossbow. With his cloak drawn about him, he envisions himself as a stone (Hide).

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
As you all wait several heavily armed Dwarves round the corner ahead of you. They walk ahead of what appears to be a robed gnome riding a giant pig. Seeing the party ahead the gnome raises a hand and calls a halt. The pig squeals and the gnome gives it a firm pat on the back of the neck.
"Calm yourself Hawk, they are but travellers on the road." Despite the gnomes words the armoured dwarves have readied their weapons and watch you all closely.
"What brings you out on the road this day?" calls the gnome.
Moments pass and the gnome produces a small device from his pocket to check the time. Shrugging he pops it back in his pocket and looks at you all with a warm smile.
"Fair enough, your business is your own." and then to his entourage, "Onward, leave these good travellers be."
And with that the strange troop move on up the road; and once they have passed you all resume your journey westward along the road. It is growing late by the time you reach the junction leading north toward the monastery and you are all weary from travel.
Do you camp at the junction or press on northward?
(I don't think I received a notification on that last post, for some reason.)
Randrak stands there glaring at the gnomes. He is not sure whether to trust these travellers or not. He certainly didn't want the possibility of being subjected to a surprise attack. However, before makes a decision on what to say, the travellers decide to continue on their way. Randrak then allows himself to relax slightly before turning to the others.
"I think we should continue pressing on northward, for now."

OOC: No worries, it was a minor encounter and I did not want to drag it out if people we busy and posts slow coming. It's the way of Pbp :)
Uldran places a hand on your shoulder Freak, "We'll have to get you some new clothes when we get back to the city... and perhaps a new name? One not given to you by your captors."
You all head north following a narrow trail into the rocky hill country. With Reggarn leading the way you make good time, but it is still close to midnight by the time you come to a parting in the rocks and start to see the looming shadow of the abandoned monastery up ahead.

"That would be good!" He says, giving Uldran the biggest smile. He continues with a spring in his step.

"Uhh! I trust we'll make camp earlier in the evening the next time we take a march like this - goodness, this is the sorest my feet have felt since I could feel them again."
OOC: What do we know about Goblins? Are they more active at night, so that waiting for daybreak could be advantageous or are they more active at daytime?
I have kind of handwaved day and night until now but here is the deal. The stone sky is laced with crystalline veins that filter sunlight from the uplands. This bathes lands below in a dim twilight when it is sunny up top. Not enough to make a difference to an uplander but as good as day light for a down dweller. Guldroth and all of the outer lowlands also benefit from the "glow" of the lava ocean which bathes the lands in a dim red light. You also have a mass of bioluminescent fungi and algae that thrive where the other light sources do not reach meaning that you are rarely truly "In the Dark."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

(That is good to know, on top of that, it is probably save to say that pretty much every inhabitant of this lands is likely to have darkvision. I‘ll assume we all something like biorhythm, still)
(edit: well, that’s a fat no)
Alanis wonders if there are any advantageous ways to approach the task at hand, but finds she lacks the information to name any.
She peers at Reggarn uncertainly.
“Do you really think the goblins would be willing to negotiate with you, Master Reggarn?“

Dvori takes a seat on a nearby boulder, catching his breath. "Quite a ways, isn't it? Shall we give these fellow travelers the road?"
Freak moves to the side where Dvori went and sits on the ground. He takes off the boots and starts massaging his feet. He has blisters. "Yes, a lot of walking since I've escaped."

"You fight very well. Can you teach me, when we have time? I get hurt all the time..." He pulls at his ripped clothes.

It is the dead of night and you all stand peering down at the dark monastery. The building sits in a wide depression amongst the surrounding rocks.
How will you all proceed?
