As you move approximately 10 ft. past the gallows when you hear a creak come from it. The party turns and Ireena gasps as you see where there was nothing, a body swings from the gallows. A breeze blows and turns the body towards the party. The body is dressed in old torn and weathered clothing its face is beard-covered and the skin is ashen gray. What draws you to it are the eyes. The corpse's cold, dull eyes seem to fix on you as the body sways in the wind.
DM: Giving the party time to react to this development.
Ban shrugs at the different signs. They say they lead to the same place, and none of the party is familiar, so it can't be disputed. Just before she pipes up to resume traveling conversations, she stops short and points. "Th-that guy wasn't over there earlier, right?"
Bob turns back to address Ban, saying, "What guyyyyaaaah!" His simple question turns into a strangled cry as he sees the chilling body staring at them... no, glaring at them, accusingly. "Didn't quite... see tha' bloke afore, no. Should we, er, cut 'im down?"
Looking towards the apparition, Gimble casts Mage Hand and moves his dagger through the air towards the corpse, slowly moving the weapon through the figure to see if it is an illusion.

Tio rushes towards the body before the others can respond, she tires her best to get up the gallows. Her voice a bit broken “Master?! How!? Why are you here, you shouldn’t be here! Who’s done this to you, your body…” Her body fall to her knees and her body shakes but you can’t hear her crying. Her hands grasp at the feet and legs of the body hanging.

The party feels a slight breeze. Gimble uses Mage Hand to guide his dagger to the hanging corpse. It passes through but the image remains. Tiorushes forward and clutches the legs of the hanged man. As she does so the body disintegrates slowly, becoming dust on the wind until nothing is left. A cold silence settles in around the party.

You take the road southwest and as you travel a short distance it curves and heads north and cuts through the same mist-shrouded forest you had passed through earlier. It does not take long for the cobblestone road to give way to a dirt road but with the recent storm, the dirt has become mud, making travel slower than it normally would. The muddy road travels north only for a short time then turns back, going to the southwest, then turning to the northeast. When the road turns to the northeast, the forest falls away from the left side and leaves you with the vision of how mountainous the region is. The mist parts in spots allowing you to see the high walls of the mountain the road borders on. As you walk along, the road turns again, this time to the north. You have been traveling for 2 hours when you come upon the following sight:
The dirt road you have been following clings to the side of a mountain and ends before an arching bridge of mold-encrusted stone that spans a natural chasm. Gargoyles cloaked in black moss perch on the corners of the bridge, their frowns weatherworn. On the mountainous side of the bridge ( to your left), a waterfall spills into a misty pool nearly 1000 feet below. This pool feeds the river below you and meanders into the fog-shrouded pines that blanket the valley. "That is beautiful", Ireena says as she gazes upon the falls and river. "I have never known such beauty thrived in our homeland."
DM: Post any reactions. I will continue the narrative.
As you travel through the forest and mountainous area the fog is inescapable. Ahead, the dirt road splits into, widening towards the east. There you see patches of cobblestone, suggesting that the eastern branch was once an important thoroughfare. The second branch of the road travels to the northwest. At the point where the road branches you see a signpost with two signs. The one pointing to the east is worn and weathered enough that the destination it points to has worn away. The second sign, pointing to the northwest, has the name Vallaki etched into the wood.
DM: short break to allow a choice to continue or go to the east.
As they continue, Ban hangs back with Tio and tries to keep her thinking about other things,. Speaking just so only the two can hear, "So... what's it like being a construct? Back when we first met, when I had rescued and made sure you were tended to, I noticed that you weren't like other living beings; simply fascinating. Seemed like ya had humanoid emotion questions back at the inn, but you clearly show emotion."
As they make their way through the muddy areas, Ban happily jumps and moves about puddles playfully. Running up to the bridge that overlooks the natural splendor, she gasps at the majesty. Unable to help herself, she states, "Ah, such beauty in nature. As if a flower in a barren field."
Lastly, as the party comes to the split, she stretches and cheerfully says, "Looks like we're nearly there! So, what do we know of this Vallaki? Any customs or anything we should know? As outsiders to this land, we know next to nothing."
Ismarkis the first to speak up. "I am unsure where the road to the east leads but, I have an uneasy feeling about it." With Ismark's guidance, the party continues along the northeast road. You travel just a short distance when you come upon a somewhat familiar sight. Once again the fog blankets the road behind you as you move forward. Ahead, you see another high stone buttress partially obscured by the fog. As you move forward the fogs parts and before you stand another set of large iron gates. To the left and right of the gates, carved into the stonework, you see an armored knight holding a great sword before it, its face obscured by the depth of its helmet and the fog.. When you get within 10 ft. of the gates, they open, the sound of rusted metal moving against rusted metal echo's around you and in the fog as it opens.
After having taken a moment to enjoy the amazing vista at the bridge, Gimble continues on with the others, saying only, "For a dark and gloomy land, there are indeed moments of great beauty."
As they approach the mist-shrouded gate, he reacts cautiously and asks, "Are we sure this is the right way? Why do I get the feeling this may be a one-way trip should we enter this portal?"

Bob enjoys the unexpected trek through the bounty of nature in silence... well, mostly. He can't help but happily hum and even sing a few lines of a song in Dwarvish under his breath as they went along, as though afraid that too loudly voicing his joy would turn it to ash in his mouth. It wouldn't be the first time in this place. The terrors of the beginning of their journey were mostly forgotten until the mists closed in around them again as if goading them on.
"I'm afraid it's always a one way trip with that blasted mist at our backs. Feels like we're bein' herded along to... well, somewheres." Scratching under his beard he looks around to see if anyone actually opened the gate for them, though he felt a growing sense of dread that perhaps the gates just opened on their own...
Like the others, Gillain marches peacefully, and enjoys these moments of calm and beauty, while she can.
When the mist roles in, and she sees the imposing stone knights, and the gates open on their own, Gillain turns 360 on the spot and stares with those milky eyes, looking for anything ‘unnatural’ in the vicinity…
Taking in the natural landscape of the water fall, brings a flood of fond memories of Tio’s master. When Ban strikes up conversation Tio speaks in a calm demeanor “To be honest I’m surprised no one has noticed, though I think Bob might suspect something. I feel no pain, nor do I feel exhaustion and I can’t sleep. Though mediating helps past the time…”
As the conversation steers toward Tio outburst she feels a bit uncomfortable “I… I don’t know what that was… I know my master passed on a long time ago, he was a young man when we first met but when he finally passed on he was in his late years… I can’t explain what that was… I should have known better.”
When the group continues pushing and reach the gates “Well it seems this must be then end of his domain, theoretically Vallaki should be just past this…” Seeing that Bob and Gillain are looking around Tio will wait for his conclusion “Well see anything that might interfere with our plans?”

Boblooks around. His senses are keen, better than most. He catches the sight of something cloth just inside and to the right of the open gate, no one would have seen it had they not looked. (Assumption here) Bob moves close enough to get a good look. It is a charcoal gray, large cloth wrapped around something inside.
Bob cautiously moves to the bundle. He takes hold of it and finds it is tied with a cord with the knot on the lower side of the bundle. It doesn't take him long to untie it and he unwraps the charcoal gray cloth to find that it is a hooded cloak. Inside of it, he finds a pair of shoes and a drab-colored dress. The dress appears to be able to fit a small human woman and the shoes are made of simple leather. Looking closely Bob finds a single long strand of white/blond hair on the inside of the cloak.
