"Well, it night perhaps be possible..." says Lorgar before proceeding to describe the onyx statue of the horse and the trouble with the smugglers to Vothrolo. "It is still at Mercers. Could it perhaps be one of the artifacts?"
"While we are also on the topic of the smugglers, are we going to visit Junkar Hannom then before we head out? Teh-Koh did say he might perhaps be able to help us out with the smugglers."
“The town of Springholde is built on the edge of an ancient Kwalmendian city known as Maumoble. This book describes the cache as being located in the ‘Cuman Buthla.’ I think this phrase best translates as ‘Welcoming Center.’ I believe that is the large ruin that can be seen at the western edge of the town.”
“I’m not expecting to run into any goblins in that building, but, in one my foray into that structure, I ran into a pack of wild dogs and a flock of stirges. Because the rear of the building is so near the Blokendrohl Forest, I would not be surprised to see other hostile animals in the building.”
“There is no mention of traps in the sources I’ve read. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t traps associated with them. This wonderful book only mentions that the caches were securely hidden. For the cache that is in the Cuman Buthla, it is mentioned that Woitech hid it in the basement of the building. But, more recent people who have entered the building have not mentioned seeing a basement. I’ve talked to Junkar Hannom, who has been in the building, and he is also not aware of a basement to the building. I’m assuming there is some sort of hidden doorway that leads down to the basement.”
“You’ve already found a Kwalmendi artifact!! That is wonderful, just wonderful! I’ll definitely take a look at it when we get to Mercer’s Tavern. That is wonderful news.”
“Your smugglers don’t sound like the sort that would go looking for the caches, but, would definitely take advantage of artifacts if they stumbled upon one. Once everyone is finished with their meals, we can head out. I’m not sure if the Junkar will be of much help to us in finding the cache. I’ve already talked to him about that. But, we can ask him about the smugglers, either on our way in or after we’ve come out of the ruins.”
Balthazar takes his time with the meal, sure to fill up before heading off on another journey. He packs away a few of the leftovers as are amenable (crust of bread, bite of ham, and so on) for later snackage as needed.
Quin nods along in agreement as each party member adds their view. In the mean time he goes through his own pack making sure everything is ready and organized.
"Let's see the Junkar on the way bsck. Maybe we'll luck out and not have to involve him at all. I'm ready when you are."
Quiller stands up, "May's well git on out the door, go see aboot findin' this here secret place, what did ye say it were, a basement? Well that can't be too hard t' find, although I will allow that some folk can be purtty sneaky when it comes t' hiddin' things." He grins, "But some folk be purtty good at findin' what folk wanna hide, too." He goods to the bar and ask for a ham sandwich too take along, muttering something about finding things on an empty belly being a tad bit more tricky.
"Well, I be ready, shall we?" He waves toward the door. "Treasure awaits."

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
The party is able to pack everything up fairly quickly. There was some bread that came with the stew left over, but, few other things that were amenable to being carried in a pack. Vothrolo leads the way out of the tavern and towards the bridge. Halfway across the bridge, the half-elf stops and points upstream toward two structures visible there. “That is the remains of a bridge that I think was built by the Kwalmendi. There are other structures in the vicinity that suggest they tried to control the path of the river. That the river is still in its current path in this area indicates they were somewhat successful. We have been less successful in controlling the path of this river in Tralbibo.”
After this brief comment, Vothrolo continues across the bridge heading eastward toward the large ruin the party can see in the distance. The remains of this building towers over the houses that comprise the village. Even the church is miniscule in comparison.
Passing through the village, the party notices that most of the houses are associated with small gardens and surrounded by fruit trees. Near the eastern edge of the village, the remains of a wall is visible running north-south. The wall has clearly seen better days, with vines growing over much of the wall and large gaps present that the party is able to easily pass through.
Upon reaching the building, the party sees that it is composed of yellow brick rising up several stories. The doors are laying on the ground, with the interior visible through the open doorway. Sunlight can be seen shining down into the interior, with vegetation overtaking what was once a significant building. Over the doorway, letters can be seen. The letters are in a strange font, but, after staring at them for a minute or two, the party is able to make out “CUMAN BU…” The end of the carved stone work has fallen, leaving a jagged scar after the “u”
Lukas notes a large pile of bricks and other building debris at the base of the wall. It is likely that the remainder of the sign is in that pile, although finding it would be a difficult task.
Quin notices a lot of animal footprints inside the building. There are canine footprints (dog, coyote or wolf), pigs, and rabbit among the prints noted by Quin. But, there is so much disturbance just inside the door, it is difficult to tell if those are the only creatures that have past through this area.
Davril does notice a few canine footprints outside the building, but, is unable to recognize any other footprints that he sees.
In response to Quiller's question, Vothrolo remarks "That sign supports this book that we are in the right location. The book says the building it is hidden in is the 'Cuman Buthla,' and the sign fits that description. We have 'Cuman' and 'Bu'. If one wanted to dig through that rubble there, I'd bet we'd find the 'thla'. We are in the right location."
"Very well - Vothrolo, you had mentioned certain monstrosities in the area. Let's send in a group to exterminate what pests we find, and then proceed with research once we know the area is safe. Are you willing to accompany us into danger, or shall we leave one of our number here at the gate with you? Also, where do you suppose we might find these beasts you mentioned?"
Davril moves into the building and quickly steps to one side and waits for his eyes to adjust, holding his spear at the ready, "I'm likely of more use in a skirmishing position, not big enough to defend nor powerful enough to lay down fire from afar, but I can hold my own in a fight and I'm light on my feet."
"Very well it seems..." Balthazar trails off as Quin slinks off, eyes full of purpose and deadly meaning. "Well, I suppose that settles it. Davril, near me, if you please. Lorgar, if you wouldn't mind accompanying our mistress for the time being. Everyone else, let's go catch up to Davril. Wouldn't want him to have all the fun, now would we?"
Assuming the plan sounds good to everybody, Balthazar will head off in the direction Quin went, ideally with at least one person in front and behind him.

Lukas takes a real good look at the wall, trying to figure it out and where the rest went to.
Quin steps gently through the door and takes a couple steps to the side. He scans the floor and surrounding area looking for signs of recent activity.

"So, wadda ye make o' them letters up thar, Vothrolo?" Quiller seems genuinely curious. "Think there be any influence on our 'quest'?"
