Quin gasps as Davril's spell reawakens the unconscious man. His arms and legs flail about as he scuttles backward trying to put some distance between him self and the rug. Once he about 6 feet away he draws his hand crossbow and tries to plunk a bolt into the woven monstrosity.
With the barrage of attacks, the rug is quickly cut to ribbons and with a last quiver lays inert on the floor of the cavern. A quiet again settles upon the cavern, interrupted solely by the heavy breathing of the party.
Quin lets out an uneasy chuckle, "Heh, ha, See. Told ya there was nothing to worry about." He slowly drags himself to his feet and continues to the chests, this time a little wiser and with a bit more caution. He checks for traps.
Which chest are you looking at: Small chest on the left is Chest 1, Three large chests in the middle are L-R 2, 3 and 4, and the small chest on the right is 5.
When Quin touches chest 2, his hands stick fast to the chest. A pseudopod develops out of the side of the chest, but, before it can strike the rogue, a voice rings out in everyone's head: "Stop! There is no need for us to fight. We had a treaty with Durthane to protect his treasure. Now that he is dead, so is that treaty. What can you offer us?"
"what manner of treasure is guarded in these chests? we have gold and food to compensate you with if it is worth both our whiles." lukas attempts to take a diplomatic bargaining approach.
"I am the leader of this colony." At this point, you see a pseudopod come out of one of the large chests and wave around. "Durthane is the human you recently killed. This is his treasure hoard." The pseudopod waves vaguely at the room. "We kept it safe. In turn, he would provide us with food. Sometimes it was another humanoid, probably a member of his gang who had displeased him. Other times it would be an animal, like a horse. The arrangement has allowed us to prosper. You have shown prowess in battle. We have numbers on our side and might still prevail, but, could still lose members of our colony. Or, you could prevail, but, we may kill a number of you in the process. Our treaty with Durthane is no longer valid. We have no need of gold or other loot, aside from using it as bait. If you are going to take over his hideout, we can serve the same purpose for you."
"would the corpses of two giant spiders be sufficient exchange? we also have a bag of food stuffs and the bodies of our fallen foes. I'm keeping the heads in a separate bag to collect the bounties on them." Lukas, now knowing the terms of bargain, seeks to make his pitch.
Davril smiles faintly, "I don't know that we're likely to return, but we could spread rumors of hidden treasure in this area to help your food come find you."
“Don’t forget the centipedes,” Quiller says. “And aren’t there some other ‘chunks’ of food out there as well? If there is sufficient treasure we can pay someone to bring a cow or two up here on a regular basis, help tide ye over should there be an occasional dearth of treasure seekers.”

Davril nods, "Agreed, hard to bargain without knowing the stakes. For that matter, may I ask who you are and who was Durthane?"
