"Excellent. I am sure that she needs that gold more than we do. But I think that map is more valuable anyway. Shall we gather a couple of these others and discuss cleaning these orcs out? I could use a drink and I need to patch this wound."
Zacharias had been desperately attempting to control the flames - as he carried buckets of water in both hands, his Mage Hand carried a smaller pail of water.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, exasperated, he addressed his Aasimar companion, "Mayhaps I should have prepared some form of water based spell for this occurrence, the oversight is mine."
Zach briefly cast his eye over the two half-elves deep in discussion, they seemed a capable sort. Perhaps the type of folk that would consider providing a more permanent solution to the Orc attacks.
Seeing the problem taken care of one way or another, and not really being the type to do the whole consoling thing most times, Richter winds up following Zach's gaze back to the half-elves. While it was sorely unlikely he could overhear anything from so far away, a sly smile creeped onto his face after looking back and forth between them and the goliath.
He drew forth a deck of cards and began absently shuffling them in hand as he said to Zacharias, "You and those fellows handled themselves fairly well. Well enough, I imagine that this whole Orc business would be dealt with fairly fast with a concentrated effort. Though no endeavor is complete without the divine at your back. And wouldn't you know it, me and my friends on the other side not only have that in spades-" He pulls out a card without looking, revealing it to be the Ace of Spades. "But also, we were hoping to find fellows like yourself to help bring piece to our home away from home, if you catch my drift."

Zach's lips curl upright in a smile upon the card being revealed, "Impressive".
"I must admit that I was on a pilgrimage of a sort, in the service of Helm."
A fervent expression of determination crosses his face, "It has oftentimes been said that one's calling find's them, rather than the other way round. Given the current... issues in the area, it seems clear that this is the path on which I should embark."
Zach's expression softens, "But where are my manners. My name is Zacharias, though most that know me would call me 'Zach'." He bows lowly before continuing, "It would be an honour to assist you and any others in the protection of your home. That peace may once again reign in this land."
Elinar rolls his eyes slightly at the mention of the divine, but says nothing. "I myself am but passing through. While I may be able to help, delays to my business may be costly. What gain is there to this other than the scant prospect of 'peace'?"
Zach looks quizzically at the half-elf, "Is not peace, in of itself, a noble goal?"
He scratches his head sheepishly as he continues, "I guess... It would make you look good? If you were to help out? Mightst that not be good for business?"
Geist moves towards the group of three, and is close enough to hear zach's goal and elinar's mercenary outlook. he then smiles (in a not-so-kindly manner) and says "simple. Peace is brought from bloodshed; and if we kill whatever's doing this, they get peace, we get rewards and loot. pure and simple win-win."
Joining the group- "I agree with the dragonborn. I will go because it is my duty to the people, not to some god. But I also agree with my friend here (indicates Elinar) protecting the people is an expensive job and a monetary reward buys the things that a thank you cannot."
(OOC- I suppose we can just free wheel it for a while if we want our characters to get to know each other but for any real progression we need to wait for the DM)
"In honesty my first thought was to put myself between the Orcs and any townsfolk."
Zach looks around at the assembled group in turn, "Regardless of each of our motivations, it would appear that we were able to deliver swift retribution. Mayhaps we may yet discern where these Orcs are coming from and why they are attacking with increased frequency."
"I meant more that any peace that could be acquired through putting down an enclave of orc raiders is likely to be short-lived. Though aye,"he nods at the ranger, "money will do more to keep me alive than the gratitude of a town I'll never see again."
Richter plays off being surprised by the half-elf appearance with a smile and just quietly sits back to watch the verbal back and forth between half-elf, dragonborn, and giant-maybe-kin "Such a grim outlook, my dashing friend. Not unexpected one, but certainly grim!" Richter chuckles, and then with a hand at his chest, "Richter Oristien. Temporary resident, and dispenser of miracles on the behalf of the divines. Well, the goodly ones, anyhow, when the deem us mortals worthy of such -- and a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
"As for matters of coin, I'm sure you can come to an arrangement with the town head, if not the leader of the guards. I'm certain one or the other would happily offer a tidy some for those most interested in it, as it would be more cost efficient then dealing with those brutish Orcs for the next two years. Before of course they inevitably breed to the point of wiping this poor little town off the map."
"And what they cannot provide, well, its like our other friend said. The bonus being that any quote on quote loot we find need not necessarily be returned.. and those Orcs have been at this for quite a while. So as you can imagine, and given that other villages or the like in the area have come under there tender attention, there will be quite a bit of loot to gain. For those more invested in such a things, then the purity of their spirit like myself and this grey gentleman here."

(Did I not say the guards dosed the flame?)
(I searched for the word 'fire' and didn't see anything indicating that, searching 'flame' doesn't seem to come up with that either.)

(Ok, well they did, and the orcs have been detained.)
(Also, I'm am going to not be able to post for a couple days)
