The spider either doesn't hear Tae's comment or chooses to ignore it. You here a faint call back that sounds like it is coming from the yard.
What? You need a monster?!?!? I'll be right up, but I don't have any monsters with me!
Excellent! Let's bring this Master Emmett in and see if we can't come to a mutually beneficial agreement.
It moves to the wall and begins to climb up.
I know it's uncouth to discuss food related matters outside of meal time, but I simply must show you something I caught just the other day. You would be ASTOUNDED by what can end up in the common household.
Heec waits by the entrance of the door to meet Emmett while Tae leans against a support beam inside the Attic, waiting for the spider to reveal his prize. Heec, feeling uneasy about things, wants to know if the spider is speaking the truth.
Heec makes an Insight check of 22 (17+5).
Tae, remembering the vial and note attached, begins to question the spider.
So tell me, my arachnid inhabitant, how long have you been here? Did you know the family that lived here before Master Emmett?
Yes, yes. I knew them briefly. The little one never liked me much but the others were fine folk. I guess they moved up to Neverwinter. No doubt they tired of the slow farm life.
It moves above the two elves and begins rustling the webs as if searching for something.
Aha! I have it here!
Heec Insight Check
It's not easy to tell since the spider's mannerisms and body language is vastly different from a humanoid. But something is terribly, terribly off...
Both make a dexterity saving throw. Heec has advantage.
After a failed/successful Dex save by Tae/Heec (respectively), Tae was tangled in a web while Heec still stood by the door, unrestricted. Tae was able to remove himself from the web and after taking painful piercing and poisoning damage, he was on the verge of collapsing. Heec shoved his friend out of harms way and was able to distract the beast with one hand while delivering a quick strike with the other. Enraged by the spider's assault, Tae conjured a poison mist to finish off the beast. The poison proved too deadly for the spider and he perished. Emmett, arriving shortly after the fight, turned tail and ran after catching a glimpse of the spider. While meeting outside, Tae was able to rejuvenate some of his health while Heec caught Emmett up on what he saw in the house. After his rest, Tae also told Emmett of the vial, the note and the curious creature down in the cellar. Emmett tried to convince the elves to return to the cellar and investigate, but he was unsuccessful. Emmett offered a spare box of junk to the adventurer's for their assistance. Tae and Heec went to the jewelry store with junk crate in hand.
The two adventurers review what they gained from the house while they walk through town.
Heecrid adds a +1 Dagger (+1 on Attack and Damage rolls) to his Inventory
Tae carefully removed the venomous fangs from the spider carcass. He adds X2 Spider Fangs (both fangs have one Charge and can deal 1d2 Poison Damage on a successful Attack roll) to his Inventory
They also rummage through the box while walking and find the following items:
+Several broken garden implements such as a garden trowel that is almost completely corroded +One Pint of Oil in a clay flask +A full Tinderbox set with a Flint and Steel, Piece of Cotton and small vial of oil for soaking the cotton +Three unused Candles +A small one ounce cube of some unknown gelatinous material. It is an opaque green that doesn't look like any natural color you've seen. It is rubbery, somewhat sticky and has a very distinct smell. +10 loose Copper Coins are jangling around the bottom
As Tae and Heec head for the gemcutters on the far west side of Cragglesfrock, they see the grand layout of the village come into view. The east side is completely residential. The road then splits into a square to surround a an acre of green field known as the Commons. On the north side of the road surrounding the Commons is the Boffing Badger Inn. Further to the north you see the Chapel to Lathander and the house of the cleric that runs it. On the south side of the Commons is the General Store. Also on the south side of the village is the flop house and the Refinery to the far southwest of town. On the west side of the commons is a small bank and some permanently fixed market stalls for merchants to sell their wares. There are also some storage buildings and a stable. On the far west of the town is a few more houses, the gemcutter's shop and an apothecary about a mile out of town to the west.
You have added the following Locations to your Town Map: Apothecary, Bank, Blacksmith, Boffing Badger Inn, Chapel of Lathander, Commons, Gemcutter, General Store, Marketplace, Refinery, Stables, Storage Buildings.
Greetings, sir! We have a few questions for you and was curious if you'd be able to identify some items and their value. Tae puts the green vial on the table. We're having issues determining what this item is. Heec puts the gelatinous cube on the counter. We're also wondering if you know what this is. Heec then puts the poisonous fangs and the counter. And we were curious if you knew how much these would fetch at the apothocary.
The general store is exactly that. There are all of the basics that you would want or need for life in a village. There is also a small section devoted to adventuring gear. Since adventurers rarely come through Cragglefrock, the owner boosted his inventory once you came to town hoping you might buy it. You have not in the nine months you have been here.
The owner is an aged halfling man named Tuckminster Tuller. His childhood nickname was Tuck and he has been unable to shake it for the 200+ years he has been alive. He has scruffy and wild white hair, plenty of wrinkles and an insanely excitable personality and imagination given that he runs a general store in village of less than 300 people. He is standing on a step stool in order to see over the counter. He looks up and exclaims in a high and squeaky voice.
Greetings and welcome to my emporium of wonders! I have all of the latest gear for the intrepid *he rolls the "r" and holds a fist in front of him for added effect* adventurer. If you can't find what you are looking for just ask!
You have definitely met Tuck before. Several times, in fact. You also realize he hasn't answered your questions.
Greetings, sir! We have a few questions for you and was curious if you'd be able to identify some items and their value. Tae points at the green vial still on the table. We're having issues determining what this item is. Heec points at the gelatinous cube still on the counter. We're also wondering if you know what this is. Heec then points at the poisonous fangs still on the counter. And we were curious if you knew how much these would fetch at the apothocary.
I wouldn't begin to speculate on what those items are and what they might fetch at the apothecary. Those Moon Elves have their own system of prices, you know?
He hops down and comes around to the other side of the counter.
I could look at something a little more common if you have anything to sell. Or...*he some gets even more high and squeaky* I have the best prices in town on all of the tools of the trade for high adventurers such as yourself!!!!!!!
He runs over to that section of the store and starts loading up his arms with ropes and torches, climbing pitons and flasks.
Tae and Heec follow the road to the west side of Cragglefrock until it turns into a dirt path and they pass all of the businesses and houses. The road ends at a small wooden building with an extensive garden in the back and a shed for drying herbs. A cloth banner depicting a potion and some herbs hangs from a gnarled stick staked in the ground out front. In the distance you can just make out the Neverwinter Wood as a green haze. Above the door is the eyes and seven stars of the goddess Selune and below that is a carved oak leaf of the Oak Father Silvanus.
You enter the shop and are almost barreled over with the strong smell of herbs. The shop is a simple square with shelves lining all of the walls. The shelves are packed with potions and tinctures, jars and salves, unguents and balms and elixirs and bags. From the back office a male and a female Moon Elf emerge. They both have alabaster skin and long, white hair and move with a flowing grace.
Welcome to our shop Moon and Drow brothers, the female elf gently intones.
My name is Teekskrid and this is my life-mate Shaeshormm, purrs the male elf as he looks at his wife.
What is it that you seek, they both say as they look at you.
Tae's ears perk at the sound of her name, but he casts his gaze to the floor.
Though a little queezy over a fellow Moon Elf purring to introduce his lover, Heec recognizes his old friend!
Teek? Is that you?! My old friend! How goes it?! It's been quite some time since fate brought us together! I didn't know you ran the apothecary in Cragglefrock! And I don't believe I've met your... hold on... did you say Shaeshormm?
After hearing that name again, a look of infinite sorrow falls over Tae's face. Heec looks over at Tae but Tae leaves his eyes towards the floorboards.
Selune has brought our paths together again. It has been an age since I have called the High Forest my home, but is that not where we first knew one another? He says in a voice as thick and sweet as honey.
His eyes go rheumy as he remembers and a faint smile rises on his lips.
Yes, it has been an age...
Shaeshormm smiles at Tae. She goes over and gently takes his hand in both of hers.
And it brings me much happiness to meet you.
She caresses the top of your hand before letting it go and walking back to her husband. They hold each other side by side with hands held in the middle and look at Tae and Heec.
Tae is beside himself. He successfully is able to maintain his composure.
It was just under 400 years ago when Tae and Shae's paths met. He was but a young orphan looking for his next meal. She found the Drow looking for shelter and brought him to her family's home. They cared for the Drow for a few weeks. This was the first instance where the young man felt love for someone outside of his immediate family. Due to her family no longer able to support the addition, the Drow willingly left the village but never lost the love for the Moon Elf that showed him such care. Perhaps her compassion is the reason why Tae and Heec's friendship is so strong: Tae longed for that caring but has only been able to feel it at a brotherly level. And here she is again, still compassionate, still caring to a stranger, but does not seem to recognize the Drow.
Greetings, Lady Shaeshormm.
The Drow keeps his eyes fixed on the ground, heart pounding, unable to breath.
Heec (the monk) knows of this story as Tae (the wizard) has only spoke of it once a few hundred years ago after too much liquid courage. The story stuck with him because he never saw the Drow so vulnerable.
It's so great to see you again, old friend! We had a few items that could use some identifying. Heec pulls out the green gelatinous cube and sets it on the counter. We have no idea what this is. Pulls out the green vial, also placing it on the counter. At a complete loss with this. Pulls out the spider's fangs and sets them next to the vial. And we were curious if these could be used for anything or if they were valuable at all.
Teekskrid picks up the cube between two fingers and holds it close to inspect it. After a full minute of looking at it in silence he lowers it and speaks.
It is Goop of Gakktus. Made long ago by a crazed wizard during the aptly named Great War of Elves, Dragons, Orcs and Some Humans. It was a popular children's toy at the time. Some wizard must have discovered the ancient formulae of its creation.
He sets the cube down and looks at the green vial. Without hesitation he speaks.
That is anAntitoxin Potion. Consuming it will allow you to better combat poison or venom from any number of sources (gives user advantage on saving throws against poison for one hour).
These fangs are still wet with venom. Shaeshormm and I can create another Antitoxin Potion from this. I can give you 25 gold pieces for these or give you one free Antitoxin Potion. This offer is a gift to a long-lost friend.
And I'll respond in kind to your generosity. You've identified our items and for that I am grateful. Please, take the fangs as a gift from us.
Heec glances back at Tae anticipating intervention from Heec's act of kindness, but Tae remains by the door, lost for words, his hurt eyes still cast down.
It's truly been a blessing from Selune that our paths have crossed. If ever you're in need of assistance, please do not hesitate to seek us out. We're at the flop house in town. We must run! Selune bless you both!
Heec looks at Tae as he exits the business. Tae begins to follow behind, stops before exiting, and looks to see if by some chance, Shaeshormm has realized who he is.
Tae makes an insight roll of 14 (9+5).
