As night falls over the town of Trishdale and the darkness grows deeper, anyone in the tavern will notice a single guard from the town's watch sitting at the bar. His features haggard and eyes red as he sinks another drink and cradles the empty cup. Anyone that cares to listen will hear him occasionally mutter, "The eye...", "Like it looked into me very soul..." and "Never seen somethin' like it 'afore." Eventually he'll slam the empty cup down and call for another drink, repeating the scene.

Horatio Harkon, recently returned from a trip upriver, newly refreshed from a few nights spent relaxing in the tavern (-10 gp for 8 stress recovered), orders the man a refill and pulls his chair a little closer, giving the man an eager nod to continue in his ruminations.
"Curious, curious... do go on." He purrs, tilting his drink to the side once or twice while his arm seems heavily laden.
The watchman looks at you for a moment, his eyes searching your features, when he eventually nods in return and accepts the drink, taking a few gulps. He sits for a moment, staring into his drink before looking up and staring off into the distance. "Can't say I seen anythin' like it before, friend. Was sittin' on the south west wall at me usual post, keepin' me watch inta last night. That's when I sees this big, green eye," he grabs your sleeve and drags you in close. He turns to look you in the eye, his breath smelling of too much ale. "The eye. It stares at me for a while. It felt like it were searching me soul. Fer what, I cannot be certain. But the creature, it moved like you or me." He releases you and looks down to his ale once more and takes another drink.
"Just the one eye," the watchman says, then holds up a fist and shakes it at you, "As big as me fist it were." He takes another swig of his drink. "Well, it were then that me watch partner thought it wise ta shoot the thing. Skewered it, he did. Best shot I've seen him ever do. Then we decided ta check on the thing," he shakes his head. "We trudged out from the wall to it. It were dead, sure enough. But we'd no seen it had another with it. It yelled somethin', only understood parts of it, probably cause it jumped right down from its hidden perch and in front o' me watch partner. Stared at him with that big green eye..." His voice trails off as he stares off into the distance. He sits silent for a moment, then takes a drink again. He once again drags you in close to stare at you with his reddened eyes as he says, "Melted the bloody skin right off me watch partner, that thing did. Just with a look. Can still hear the screams." He shudders again as he releases you. "The cursed thing looked at me, said somethin' I no understood an' turned tail back ta the south west."
After asking around town, Samael is pointed towards the Wizard's Tower, "That's the only bunch of books around these parts," the guard says as he directs you.
As you enter, a familiar face greets you as Morn hurries over. "Ah Samael, looking better since our trip into the marshes, hey? Best keep our voices down for the moment. Master Baern is rather moody today. What brings you here to the library and tower of wizards?"
Morn scratches his chin for a moment, as he obviously weighs up some heavy thoughts that have recently troubled him. Finally he gives you a small nod and beckons you to follow. As you walk beside him, he begins to explain, "I don't have any work here at present. Well, not here in the tower that is. I'm loath to send you out again so soon, my friend, but perhaps there is something to be found. It is a little... troubling, but potentially rewarding."
"A bank, no, I've not seen one. Though I have missed it," Morn shakes his head, "Though perhaps in time? With enough people here and provisions?" He continues walking for a moment, then stops in front of a large wooden door. He places a hand on it, as if to open it, then stops and looks at Samael in the eye. "I know we have seen some interesting creatures out in the marsh, but this creature... it's something altogether different." He nods to you as if to ready yourself for the sight, then opens the door and leads you into the room.
Around the edges of the room are several tables, strewn with books, notes, medical implements and the like. What catches your eye however, lies on a large table in the centre of the room, a humanoid-like creature. Its skin browned and muscular. Jagged spikes protrude over its back and arms. Its hands and feet end in large claws. The pointed jaw, open, reveals a row of finely pointed teeth. And finally, where you would expect a face, instead a single, large green eye. Morn stands besides the doorway to the room, silently, allowing you to take in the sight before you.
Morn smiles, "It took some research, but not quite as dangerous as that." He walks over to one of the books, picks it up and reads from the open page. "A Nothic is usually content to watch, though if driven to it, is incredibly violent. Believed to be the twisted remains of cursed arcanists, they are drawn to places of magic, or magical knowledge." He closes the book, then looks up at Samael. "One of the watch brought this to me the other night. There isn't much information on it, that's all I was able to find. If anything, I had thought such accursed creatures a thing of myth, but then... here we are."
"not as mythical as it seems, but i will see if there is a reason for our acquaintance to be here....any disappearances from the wizard tower?"
(will make a history roll after the conversation, and figure out how to communicate with the bugger. if we can diplomatically resolve the issue, as best we can, i'd consider it a win.)
Horatio rubs his chin with a bony hand. "So there were two? Fascinating. Your comrade did not survive the encounter, I take it. And to the Southwest, you say? Curious and curiouser. Tell me - ah, what was your name, guardsman? - what reward lies for any who might hunt down such a clear and present danger to the safety of Trishdale? I trust you understand that I refer to material benefits in particular."
Morn shakes his head, "No disappearances, though I suspect the tower is what drew the creature towards the town. The guard that found the creature might be able to shed more light on its origin. I recall him saying something about his watch on the south west wall of town, though I must admit I was much more interested in the creature to really listen."

After a restful night of sleep, Trinjya is eager to spend some of the coin she earned.
She visits the general goods store, browsing thru the wares. She buys two sets of rations to restock her food supplies and she'll buy a set of thieves' tools. Then she starts looking for a nice warm coat to keep the cold of winter out of her bones. She is also (without much hope) looking for nice hairpins and chainlets made of silver that could be wound around her horns.
"Works for me." Nolla agrees. "Let's go then."
(ok, is there a reason alycron turned into Ravenholm all of a sudden?)

Samael, now in a better situation than when he started, looks for a library to work in (after giving the 4 copper pieces to the church as a donation).
