The watchman scratches his head and takes another gulp. "The town don't be havin' a whole lotta gold ta throw around. As it is, I only get paid a pittance. But, if yer goin' out ta find them things, I can give ya a little fer yer efforts. Been savin' fer some nicer gear, but I'll give 50 gold if ya can get some revenge on that thing that killed me watch partner." He takes another drink, then shrugs, "Who knows? Wherever the damned thing came from might have somethin' stashed away as well?"
@SparkRotfang:
Morn shrugs, "My guess is the tavern." As you go to leave, Morn adds, "Uh, Samael. If you happen to find where they're coming from, I'd be interested if you find any books or tomes to add to our collection here. They're obviously drawn to the knowledge or echoes of knowledge at that spot."
(That'll be 4 gold for the Rations, and 25 gold for the Thieves Tool)
Sadly, Trinjya doesn't find any hair pins and chainlets of silver, though the general store does provide quite a good few in less valuable materials.
The halfling propieter at the counter says, "Looking for fine jewelry? The smiths at the Armory dabble a bit in that, but truth be told we common folk don't usually have the gold to spend on such things. It's been tough times recently, especially since now it's winter, but at least we aren't back to those "Starving Times" at the beginning."
As he speaks of starving, the halfling's gaze seems to stretch a mile away, though he quickly snaps his attention back to Trinjya.
"Anyways, you look in need of a warm coat. We have a few ones in back- used, but quite fashionable nonetheless. Will cost you eight gold, though."
(If Tryinja does decide to purchase one:
Clothes, cold weather gear. This set of clothes could consist of a wool coat, linen shirt, wool cap, heavy cloak, thick pants or skirt, and boots. Creatures wearing these clothes automatically succeed Constitution saving throws that would give them exhaustion when exposed to temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit.)

"Yes, yes you might. If this thing is nasty enough to rend skin from flesh, I'll need more than my own talents to win the day. Would you care to elaborate on your specialties, utility, or what you would consider your strongest traits, good halfling? Oh and thank you, guardsman. We'll see to it that your friend is avenged, and this threat nullified - ah, what was your name, sir?"
The guard nods and takes another gulp before slamming down his empty mug and standing. "Wilbur's the name, adventurer. You an' yer halflin' friend best find some more help, but hope ta see ya both again soon enough. I'll have yer gold fer ya then. If ya can't find me here, I'll be at me post on the south west wall." With that he nods again and walks, perhaps with a slight stagger, out of the tavern and to wherever he calls home and bed.
"I'm a paladin, extremely new to the order and, well, adventuring at all. Ironically, I'm a Redeemer in Oath, although it sounds like that skillset may not be of much use here. Also, I can cook quite well, except not yet with adventuring ingredients and utensils. And that's me said for; what about you, though?"
OOC: A redemption dexadin, and planning to take the chef feat next level.
"i'll see what i can find." Samael smiles a haunted smile, then goes to talk to the guard in the tavern.
"I see - a worthy battle companion, I would warrant. Mine own skills are more magical than not, though I have some experience in adventuring thus far. Still, I think your skills might prove more useful than you imagine at the moment. Let's see, do you notice any other potential adventurers in the Tavern tonight?"
As you go to enter the tavern, a member of the watch stumbles past you, off in his own little world. You enter into the tavern to see Horatio (@MrTweedeh), whom you previously traveled with, and a halfling (@Murfle_the_Mighty) at the bar.
Samael smiles, upon meeting a friendly face; "Horatio, it seems we meet once more. Morn sent me down here to gather information, whereabouts is the guard that witnessed the aberrant?"
The halfling, smiling cheerfully and seeming more at ease, speaks up.
"You just missed him, sorry to say. He headed out just a few moments ago. I'm Perigord Marmothair, by the way, a Redemption Paladin. And who do I have the honor of addressing?"
"Well met once again, friend. Curious that we should meet again. Still, it is good to hear of your interest. This Paladin is agreeable to help in the precise adventure of which you speak. You say Morn had some information? I would hear of it. As for the guard, he has offered a pittance - 50 gold - in exchange for vengeance upon the creature, or creatures, that dealt a mortal blow against his comrade. I assume that the One-eyed thing that melted the skin of the guard is the same aberrant you seek. The guard did note that there were two, though one was slain, or at least wounded. He gave us a direction as well, so we have a place to start looking. If you are agreeable, I suggest we find one more to join us on this venture - preferably one of strength, and considerable constitution. I mean to not repeat our last venture's reliance on... unorthodox tactics. Still, if it is only the guard you seek, you can probably catch up to him - he left only a few minutes ago, though whether he was heading to his barracks, a home in town, or back to his post, I can't say."
(i know you may be tired, but i'm a human warlock)
"I am sure my magic and love of fire and thunder gives a thought of avernus, but i am human, as far as i remember; and I know what we face. Morn has in his study the corpse of the slain nothic, and i agree that getting another member is priority, I'm seeking to find a way to speak the creature's language to discern its intent and reason for focusing on the wizard's tower. 50 gold is fine and all, but if we were able to have a diplomatic solution....it would not bother the town and no more would die needlessly."
"I had a look in the books in the tower before coming here. the creatures speak undercommon, but I would need a book of the language and time to learn it, alongside finding the creature's lair."
Trinjya pays for the rations, the tool and the set of warm colthing and she will also buy the nicest set of hair pins she can find (tell me the price). She then makes her way to the tavern looking for some other way to spend her coin.
Seeing Horatio together Samael with a stranger, she casually wanders over to the bar, greeting Horatio with a big smile and Samael with a much less enthusiastic nodd, while placing an arm full of winter clothes on the counter.
"This place is so pitiful. I tried to spend some money but they don't even have propper jewelers around here. I talked to a shop owner and it seems like not too long ago, people around here were literally starving. Good thing that we are here to rid the area of dangers and earn some coin to spend isn't it? Maybe with a litle time, this place can become a proper town afterall. By the way, what are you up to? And who is your new friend?"
"our new friend is a paladin of redemption, and our current mission from Morn is to find a nothic, and talk to it, resolving the situation peacefully if we can, lethally if we must."
(OOC - @Kaldaras - Remember that Morn is a guild jeweller as well. You'd just need to gather him some materials and he could fashion you some jewellery. The townspeople wouldn't know that, but during our venture into the marsh, he did get out his jeweller's kit to clean your magic ring and talk about making jewellery, so Trinjya would know this.)

@tavern
Perigord, a halfling in leather, comes nervously over to the table with the guard and Horatio.
"I'm a bit new here, but I've been on the lookout for work, unsuccessfully so far. Could I perhaps join up?"
Horatio gives the halfling a look, up and down.
"Yes, yes you might. If this thing is nasty enough to rend skin from flesh, I'll need more than my own talents to win the day. "Samael, once a mere beggar with naught but a crossbow and some magical fortune. Now, I hava a chance to live quietly, provided i can find income."
Horatio rises to shake the other warlock's hand.

((Yes I remember, I guess Trin will call on that at some point))
Trinjya looks at the halfling and smiles even wider, showing a lot of pointed teeth.
"I'm Trinjya, nice to meet you. This town can be so boring at times, new people make it better, even if they are paladins. "
She turns back to Samael with out waiting for a response and says
"That sounds fun...what's a Nothic?"
