"on that note, my report on the situation is thus: the nothics keep to themselves, it seems, but are interested in trying to cure their condition. the problem with this, it seems, is twofold; we need someone who can communicate in undercommon or deep speech, and there is a beholder beneath the nothics that has them scared." tossing the gazer corpse on the table, Samael continues "if this is to work, people need to stay away from the ruin until the town can kill the beholder, resolve the nothic situation, and then a scholarly expedition can be sent."
Morn looks closely at the gazer corpse dropped on the table, "Interesting..." his voice trails off. He snaps to once again though. "A beholder? Hmm, this is troublesome. Did you see it? How far down does the library go? I'll have to read into the history of Alycron to see if I can find anything that mentions such a creature." He scribbles some notes in his notebook and closes it. "So the nothics meant no harm? Well, that is good news at least. Enough around these parts seems hostile. Undercommon or deep speech though... Those are not all that commonly spoken. Perhaps some of the other new faces in town could help?" He paces a little before continuing. "Well, if you wish to take on the beholder, I'm obliged to warn you to be prepared. Though I'm sure you already knew that. If you do go back, please see what other texts you can find that might help us here. They might answer some of the growing list of questions. And if you do return, mapping out the lower levels of the library as best you can will serve to help in a battle with a beholder. At least to ensure a swift escape should you need it." He taps the newly identified magical items on the table, "Usually such services would cost, however as you've brought these books, I'm happy to allow this just the once. Just don't go advertising it, please. Master Baern is not likely to look so kindly at me should he find out I've not charged you."
"i'm cautious of the beholder, for it did not show itself, but taunted us for fighting with its......pets. i intend to return when i am stronger and with more men behind me.as i am, I cannot face such a thing. how's frankie doing, by the by?"
Thavriol turns half an ear to the conversation as the newcomers come in. Another team that found something a little too strong for themselves. At the mention of languages, he perks up, and turns fully around, standing.
Alix moves closer to the conversation. “Interesting. I believe I can be of help as well. I speak deep speech and am very interested in learning more about these creatures.”
"a man-sized creature, once a thinking person like you or I who delved into arcane arts, corrupted and twisted by eldritch forces dwelling within the weave. they are stripped of most of their memories, but left with the idea that their condition can be reversed, cured even. we ran into a group in the ruins that kept to, and tended, an ancient library. a beholder and its gzer pets had terrorised them, which in turn forced a collision course with the town guard. they seem constrained, with only one town casualty that i know of, that being a guard who killed one of them that snuck into the town. I'm hoping for a diplomatic solution in good faith, as these seem to be reasoned with, but until we can rid ourselves of the beholder, it will be difficult. that is also why I await results from an earlier venture, to see if a tomb could hold the secrets or clues to the nothic condition."
The paladin nods, the idea of a non-violent solution to such a problem sounding fine to him. But...a beholder. Well, now, that was a different weave of cloth altogether.
"I'd be happy to help with the nothics as a non-violent solution is always preferable. However, in honesty I doubt I could help if it came to tangling with that beholder."
"which is why I'm intent on waiting until i get stronger and others are at a similar level of strength to me that we can rid ourselves of that beast of eleven eyes."
As Perigord speaks those dark words across the book and flips the pages, a sketch of a familiar creature greets those that went to the farm. A spider-like creature with a long eel-like neck and wicked pointed teeth. Words also appear on the page, giving some insight as to what the neogi are.
Neogi live in a hierarchical society with upper and lower classes, masters and slaves. They are known for their ruthless trading, especially of slaves. Their ability to enslave the mind makes them especially dangerous for the unprepared or those caught unaware.
"I will help as best i can. but in order for me to do so, I will need to improve my defense and weaponry. whereabouts would a blacksmith or weaponshop be?" samael is cautious, he would honor his words, but neogi seem to be clever, too clever.....
Studded leather armor, a shield and either a Longbow or a heavy crossbow. My magic can't be asked to do everything, and I'd like to stay alive long enough to do what I have to."
"works for me, lead on, sir knight. and welcome to the catastrophe that is this town. hope you like monsters."Samael lets out a giggle at that, as all three jobs he has on mental record involve monsters in some way, shape, and form.

"I speak undercommon," the half-elf paladin says.
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
"do you now?" samael is curious. "so, if I were to ask, would you be able to communicate with a nothic?"
Alix moves closer to the conversation. “Interesting. I believe I can be of help as well. I speak deep speech and am very interested in learning more about these creatures.”
"Yes, I could do that, though I am unfamiliar with what a nothic is. What are they?" Thavriol asks, moving over to continue the conversation.

Sienna approaches with a smirk standing beside Thavriol
"Then perhaps you'd consider assisting us with our Neogi problem?" She says with a flick of her tail and a smile
"We need more people, and you need to get stronger alongside others, seems a win win to me?"
Sienna Fulgurflash, Bard 3 - Child of the Stormy Sea - Alycron West Marches
Yian Do'Garon, Ranger 5 - Dragonfriend
Perigord looks over.
"Neogi? What are those? Wait-"
He flips open the Aberration encyclopedia, and in Deep Speech, says "Neogi."
"What do you know about these neogi? Hopefully, this book can elaborate."
As Perigord speaks those dark words across the book and flips the pages, a sketch of a familiar creature greets those that went to the farm. A spider-like creature with a long eel-like neck and wicked pointed teeth. Words also appear on the page, giving some insight as to what the neogi are.

Thavriol nodded. "Yes, we have those, of course. What do you need, exactly?"
ooc: And how did the Betrayer of Hope find his way to our fair town, I wonder ;)
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Studded leather armor, a shield and either a Longbow or a heavy crossbow. My magic can't be asked to do everything, and I'd like to stay alive long enough to do what I have to."
pic: betrayer of hope? What you on about?
ooc: I thought your character's name was from a book series, the Wheel of Time but I see now it's spelled a little differently, 1 'm' instead of 2.
"We can certainly find an armorer for that," Thavriol says. "Are we going to do that, now, then?"
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
"works for me, lead on, sir knight. and welcome to the catastrophe that is this town. hope you like monsters."Samael lets out a giggle at that, as all three jobs he has on mental record involve monsters in some way, shape, and form.
ooc: oh, ok, what was the book series?
ooc: The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and finished by Brandon Sanderson
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
ooc: huh. good to know.
