"Hullo there. I saw the library when we were here earlier to get the things identified- might I be able to study those books? Specifically, I'd like to learn more about the neogi, and if possible how to add patches back on to this robe of useful items. And, um, beholders as well, come to think of it. Is there any chance you know of where I could find information on those topics?" (Primary activity)
"Also, I saw the sign said minor enchantments on the door- I have these three books (Fungi of Magic, Flowers of the Deeps, Herbs of the Mountains) that all pertain to the same topic. I don't know any arcane magic, really, but is there a way to condense these books into one that I could carry around?" (Secondary activity)
Morn nods to you, Perigord, "You're welcome to spend some time going over our library in search of knowledge." His brow then furrows as he considers your second request, "I'm not sure it's an enchantment if you just wish to copy the books into one single volume. It would take you some time, but you could do it I guess. As for magical enchantments for such a purpose, I'll have to go through my books as nothing comes to mind at present."
(OOC - Perigord can spend a week researching those three topics if you wish. If you do, then roll 3 separate Investigation checks for me.)
(OOC - you can work at any of those. How do you approach it? Are you just going to offer help for some food and board? Or are you going to ask to help with something specific? This is a chance to RP it a little :) )

General store, they could use a stablehand looking to gain physical experience.)
Perigord spends the week in the library, searching the old books and tomes for his answers.
(Neogi = 10) Your search is somewhat fruitful, however it doesn't give all that much more than what has been discovered before from the book of aberrations and from the discoveries of the party that first went to the farm. These hierarchical alien creatures are not well documented and so finding specific weaknesses or details on them is difficult.
(Robe of Useful Items = 12) This one is much more easier to ascertain details, especially as you are able to ask some of the mages that work within the library as well. Unfortunately the magic is imbued in the robe and its patches upon creation and so cannot be added to. However, were you to find a mage powerful enough and a seamstress skilled enough to create the patches and robe, it may be possible to create a new one, however it would take some time and coin to do so.
(Beholder = 2 then 16) As your week nears to a close, your heart sinks as you find very little about beholders. Perhaps due to the secretive or unknown nature of the being, you're not certain. However, just as you're about to pack up in the last hours of the last day, you see a book, up on one of the highest shelves and so went unnoticed by your halfling stature. After a quick climb up and flicking through the pages quickly before the mages ask you to leave, you find a page filled with a dark sketch. The page is almost filled with dark shading and scribbles. Amid the dark scribbles, a single large eye glares straight through you atop a large, dripping, toothy maw, with several smaller eyes surrounding it. The visage looks like a larger and more terrifying version of the small creatures you found in the library already. Scrawled along the bottom of the page are the words "Paralysed with fear, you will disintegrate and die in my gaze!"
Before you get a chance to look further, an old mage interrupts, "Sorry master halfling," he says as he reaches out with wrinkled hands to accept the book, "It is getting late now and I must close my tomes for the evening. I hope that you found what you were looking for among my collection." He smiles at you, nodding slightly towards the book and his outstretched hands in direction of your next actions.

(OOC - Well any of them, you just need to ask/offer your help. I said you could work at any of them but I can't tell you how things go down without something. You could walk in and say "Give me some work" and that's going to play out very different to "Hey, I've done these things around the place and wanted to see if there was anything you wanted help with". That's the RP part I was asking about, not the actual work as such.)
A letter of application can be found in the letter-baskets at the Sanitarium, the General store, and the library. in it, the letter denotes experience in each part (working with those touched by insanity/extradimensional influence/trauma, boatwork looking to turn into stablework, and recording and archiving information.), and kindly asks if there are any openings available. hours are not an issue, as the writer will work any shift, so long as too much is not asked of him. The letter closes with an awaiting of approval or denial, and signs off with a
"sincerely,
Samael, Erstwhile adventurer and rescuer of Frankie Fourfingers"
Early the next morning, a young boy comes up to you Samael. "Are ya Mista Erstwhile? Mista Guntha at the goods store wants ta see ya." Then runs off without another word.
As you enter into the store, the old gnome looks up from his books with a smile, "Welcome to Gunther's Goods. How can I help you?"
Samael nods at the gnome and replies "i'm looking for work, if any is possible. I have worked on a boat or two to pay my way here and on one of my adventures, and I heard that the stables need assistance? or failing that, I can keep your records in good order, especially contracts and transactions. As the djinn say, "What do you wish of me?" Samael smiles, to reassure the storekeeper that what he says is genuine and that he is willing to work wherever he is needed to work.
"Ah, you're Samael," Gunther nods and closes his book. "So my errand boy found you alright. You heard right, young fella. One of my stable hands is out sick at present and my brother is struggling to keep up with all the livestock." He chuckles to himself, light-heartedly. "Well, if you're up for it, I'm sure he wouldn't say no to some help." He turns around and pulls on a thick rope behind him on the wall and you think you hear the clanging of a cow bell. Moments later and similar looking gnome, perhaps a few years younger, walks in from the back of the store, covered in dirt and muck. "WOULD YOU WIPE YOUR FEET OFF BEFORE COMING INTO THE SHOP!" Gunther yells at him, then takes a breath and smiles pleasantly at you. "This is my brother, Granther. He'll get you to work out in the stables. Two silver a day, plus food and bed sound good to you? I know it's not much, but we're not swimming in gold as you have probably seen about town, except for them nobles in their mansions near centre of town." Granther spits at the mention of the nobles.

(is the stuff instantly ready?)
(OOC - yes. This is not overly unique gear, and with the armoury helping to arm the town watch, there are several items ready.)
(good. hope their's loot on this adventure, not kidding when i say all my gold was spent making sure i stay alive.)
Perigord wanders back into the wizards tower.

During the week samael will work for food and board, so that he doesn't starve.
(do i have to roll for that?)
(OOC - where would you like to do your work? There are a number of places around town (Post #2 on Pg.1), and how do you go about asking for the work?)
(choices are, in order, sanitarium, library of wizard's tower, and general store)
(OOC - you can work at any of those. How do you approach it? Are you just going to offer help for some food and board? Or are you going to ask to help with something specific? This is a chance to RP it a little :) )
