"Sure, always have work... been sorting beans, but there's a tree what fell out back, haven't gotten around to chopping it up for firewood yet."
((You're looking for odd jobs around the shop? Forgive me, I've not DM'd an Alycron job since late February, so anything you guys can do to help catch me up on things again is appreciated!))

"if you wish it , i can try and chop it up for you. all i need is a woodsman's axe and i can start working."
"Sure, there's one in the tool shed off the stables," Gunther says. "I'm sure there's work Granther has in the stables too, once you finish with the tree. Can stack the wood out back, far end of the woodpile so it has time to season."

Feeling bored, and in need of a little coin, Thavriol begins looking for work. He asks around, trying to find if anyone has any work that needs doing. The problem is, aside from his martial skills, his best other talent relies on sneaking around and breaking into places. Useful skills for a starving urchin but not for a paladin of Tyr. Still, he's not afraid of hard work and maybe someone needs a security consultant.
Not finding anything brewing at the tavern, Thavriol headed down to the barracks to see if any work was available. Once there, after spending some time visiting with old friends and sharing stories of new adventures. After, he asked around for work.
It takes Samael longer than they'd like, if only the brothers could decide whose job it is to keep the axe sharp! But eventually Samael manages to chop through it and stack the firewood.
Thavriol is able to find a bit of work helping out with training and the like, stepping in as a sparring partner and such. As long as he does so, he's given a bunk and a bowl at mealtimes. There are others there with a similar arrangement, providing labor or other services for a place to stay. Over a dinner of uninspired brown stuff that's at least filling, he hears a couple of caravan guards ridiculing one of their fellows about 'screaming like a little girl' when they were camped the other night.

"You needing any supplies? Can trade labor for goods, or the standard rate for a day's work... what was it last time? A silver a day? You going to be in town long?"

A moment later Thavriol is helping one of the guards back to her feet. "There now, that wasn't so hard, was it? Now, I trust you've learned not to laugh at your fellows. There're things out there that would make anyone with sense scream like a little girl, or a like a grown man. I know...I've done some o' that screaming." He eyes the two steadily for a moment. "Gonna laugh at me? Didn't think so." He turns to the third guard. "So, what was it? What did you see or hear or sense?"
Some of the beans have become infested with weevils, the shopkeep is sifting through them when you stop by.
They have culinary utensils available.
