Thavriol, you take his word for it that he DIDN'T just sit on a branch and get spooked, pondering what natural thing could match his description. You come up blank, which in itself sort of suggests it might be something unnatural, but grabbing implies some sort of appendage, or animated plant perhaps? But whatever it was, it wasn't attached to a larger creature.... was it at one point, and that creature's still out there, or are there a bunch of smaller grabby things infesting the surrounding area?
"Pssh, sure buddy, knock yourself out. But if you get plague out there, do us all a favor and sit in your campfire until you're cured, yeah?"
When the hubbub dies down a bit, the woodsmen respond.
"Sure, you mean our original site, or where we heard the howling? Both are off the old road to the east, few days."
"You can see the logging track where we drag trees out closer to the road. Old place is a day past the new one."

"much obliged." Samael turns to Nolla, and a minor smile breaks out on his face. "Come with me on this, I think a day or two in the woods oughta beat the claustrophobia away from you."
Thavriol shakes his head after a moment. "Well, whatever it was you handled it right. And don't worry about those others. I wasn't lying when I said I'd screamed. Plenty of stuff out there to scream about. The thing is, not to let that fear stop you from acting." Clapping the teamster on the shoulder, Thavriol heads to the tavern to check on Nolla, get a drink, and see if anyone knows about the grabby thing.
A little while later, the paladin walks into the tavern and, seeing Nolla, grabs himself a mead from the bar and walks over. "How's it goin', Nolla? You doin' alright?" He nods at Samael. "Samael, you're lookin' fine. Been keepin' busy?"
"Chopped firewood at the store for bolts, and now wet howls in the woods. I was going to investigate whether sickness, monsters, or both are involved. I was inviting Nolla to give her a breath of fresh air, But it would also be nice of you to join us, if you so chose."
Thavriol nods. "Let's do it. First, though, I heard an interesting story and I’d like your thoughts." He relates the tale of the wagoner verbatim and asks if they have any thoughts on it. He even asks the bartender.
"peculiar.....a thing that burned like a plant, yet felt like the hand of a person.....or a beast....tell me, good sir *directed at the bartender*, has this sort of thing happened elsewhere?"
"What, someone got spooked and made a big deal out of nothing? Happens all the time. Every wild story that folks have from... out there, don't mean it's anything. I've heard every tale, tall and short, but I've no idea what the truth is behind most of them."

"That's true enough," Thavriol chuckles. "Though, I'm thinkin' this guy's story had the ring o' truth, ya know. Still, not much to go on. Let's deal with this thing you found, Samael, eh? Nolla," he said turning to her, "how're you feeling? Up for another round out there?"
"Hallo there, storekeeper. I don't suppose you've any culinary utensils I could purchase? Nothing too fancy, but better than the basic stuff."
edit: ooc, the reason I need these is to take advantage of the Chef feat I just picked up, if that helps make sense of what I'm looking for. I couldn't really figure out how to say chefs tools lol.
"For the eating or the making? We've got both! Fine silver set, matching knife, forks and spoons, enough for six place settings... or if you're after the tools of the trade, we've got assorted whatnot you'd need to cook up a proper feast."

"As long as it is not downin some dark tunnel, then I'll come along." Nolla says, taking a pull from her ale as she listens in. "Howling, in a place called howling wood, though doesn't sound so bad..."
He trades in the javelins, hooks up the cooking gear, and after exchanging pleasantries with the shopkeeper, he wanders off to the bar to see if he can buy any cheap, lightweight food items.
"Oh, hey there you three! Talking about our last escapade? Check out what I've got!"

"Splendid!" Samael smiles at the news, and turns to the woodsmen. "Well now, I think our group can figure out this mystery for you, and perhaps I know of one other who can help... for now, what would be recompense for this task? I ask, out of courtesy for the rules of transaction."
"You're the one that was all fired up to investigate... I mean, it'll make our work more pleasant, but it's not like we've got a fund for 'paying folks to go harass wolves'..."

"it's all right, I was merely asking out of formality. I'll do the work regardless, but in society, you're expected to engage in give and take." Samael smiles. "besides which, if it's just hostile wolves, the pelts will be recompense then."

"glad to have you Thav, just waiting on nolla."
Perigord walks into the general store.
"Hallo there, storekeeper. I don't suppose you've any culinary utensils I could purchase? Nothing too fancy, but better than the basic stuff."

"Ah, the tools if you don't mind. Just the things I'd need for cooking in the field."
He pulls out his coin pouch and frowns ruefully at it.
"Aaaaand I've got some javelins to sell, if you take those? I should be able to buy the tools either way, but these are just weighing me down."
"Hmm .. how many? They in good shape?"

"I'll take the javelins for a metal pot, some knives, forks, a stirring spoon, and a ladle?"
