Petal easily shifts the fallen tree to the side of the road as one of the three house guards, the human man, draws this sword looking utterly terrified.
"I....I'm fine as for my father it's traveling. He hates to leave home," Opal replies to Varen then turns to see the commotion watching Petal slack jawed at the tail end (pun intended) of the gnomes transformation!! "What the...," she trails off her eyes darting to Kiran and then her brother who looks impressed before looking back at Varen. "She's....this is bad," the princess whispers hand on the hilt of her ax moving towards the standing house guard.
OOC: Everyone knows thw remaining guards: Dwarven woman - Wynora Firebrand, Human man - Pytr Van Garrett, human woman - Elinor Elliot.
"That was...impressive," Onyx exclaims before looking to Kiran and then Ronegan. "She's mad...," he adds frowning.
"Pytr stand down," Opal says as the human man moves towards the transformed Opal.
"She's a witch," Pytr exclaims his tone frantic and his expression horrified as he stares at the druid gripping his sword.
"This day has seen enough violence," Opal says edging closer to the man.
"Are we clear to move..." Queen Citrine calls out looking out of the carriage seeing only Opal approaching the sword wielding man! "Disarm him only Opal," she calls as Onyx whirls around to see his sister and the guard squaring off!

"Pytr! She is on OUR SIDE! By the name of Queen Citrine, you want every ally you can right now! Or do you claim to go against the strength of our allies?"
“Go. Get into the woods until we can calm the guards down. Quickly. Then follow along beside us in the woods until we can figure out what to do about this. But go now before the king or queen get involved.”
Kiran slowly walks over, holding a hand to Petal to have her stay where she is. As he reaches Pytr he faces him directly and moves close, speaking in a quiet, though carrying voice, “This is a matter for the church, not vigilanteism, and believe me, it will be handled at the right time and in the right way. Stand down, or will you defy the will of the church?”
Ronegan is so engrossed in the study of Petal's transformation, he doesn't actually realize he is standing in the midst of a confrontation for a few minutes.
"What? Oh...dear." He stumbles backwards towards Ran. He was surprised...shocked, actually that Petal would risk her transformation without the chaos of battle. He actually sort of admired her for having the bravery or stupidity to do it, but he wasn't about to risk the same thing. As traditionalist as the Queen was, even she couldn't be known to tolerate heretical magic users in her kingdom, and the king... Ronegan shuddered.
He thinks to himself, trying to get a sense of where they are at. It was going to be a long way to Ospel, and they would need to restock soon as well as deal with all this tension. If they could reach a town nearby, they could deal with at least some of these problems. He himself would need to speak with Kiran eventually too. The halfling sighed and backed up even further, out of the way of whatever was going to happen next -- he certainly did not want to draw any undue attention to himself.

"Ronegan, I'm struggling to recall the local towns.. after all the commotion with the battle and this wound and Dust panicking... where are we closest to again???"
Ran leaves Petal and the guard to Kiran and approaches the queen.
He positions his tall bulky frame to block out as much of what is going on as possible.
Bowing his head he says, “Yes your majesty, we will be on our way shortly. Everyone is still heated after the battle and a few of the guards are not thinking clearly. And one of the horses is still erratic. It will be sorted and then we will get going.”
"Pytr...please drop your sword," Opal calls out looking to Kiran her eyes leveling the man before flicking to her twin Onyx looks nervous too by the monk's words.
"We settle this here. If you seek out the church as I know you must please take into account this day and the actions that aided our survival," Queen Citrine says her expression stony at the monk before nodding to Ran before gesturing for him to come closer.
She speaks to him about luggage out loud.
Ran only.
But in his head. Ge hears: "Keep an eye on him. The safety of all our house is now at stake," the queen says casting message and speaking of Kiran.
This something she's done before to save her husband embarrassment when Ran aided getting the king to bed after too much to drink or an indelicate task like shooing guests who out stayed their welcome. She then glances at Onyx who looks nervous from the monk to Petal before composing himself.
Moving to Petal's side Onyx unhooks her from tbe tree but stands by her as if ready to fight anyone off rolling up the sleeves of his blood stained travel robes with a set jaw.
Ronegan knows it's another 3 to 4 days on the road with limited horses and means to transport household goods on wagons even longer. It looks like the Firstforge family will be late on either account!

Ran nods to the queen and returns to the simmering conflict by the trees.
Damn druids and wizards. You can get away with anything in the heat of combat but not after when everyone is looking. And then this bloody Lightbringer church. He was of a mind to just go and find his old commander and get back to fighting orcs.
How the hell were they going to get out of this with everyone’s head intact, he thinks to himself.
”Has everyone lost their minds,” he growls in his best grizzled warhorse voice. “Bandits will be back any moment and we have our royal family to get safely back underway.”
He strides up to Varen, and when he is certain only she can see his face he arcs his eyebrows trying to convey, just go along with this.
”Her majesty needs to ensure the safety of the king. Take the remainder of the house guard and sweep the road ahead to ensure the bandits have not laid out more traps.”
He turns to Pytr.
”Are you okay? Your eyes look like you took a blow to the head. I’ve seen that too often on the battlefield. Once I swore I saw orcs dancing after I got my bell rung. Stay close to Varen. She’ll keep an eye on you.”
He pats Pytr on his back and gives him a firm guiding hand to follow Varen.
”Kiran, Elavor, the queen wants to travel as quickly as possible. That means lightening the load. Put only what we need in one wagon.
”Onyx, Opal, Ronegan, let’s get these horses one last go. And careful of that one Onyx. That’s one of the gnoll horses. Foul creatures.”
And here’s to hoping they all listen, he thinks to himself as he grabs the lead on his horse and gets it pulling the tree the last of the way off the road.
Varen, already aware that her words did not take purchase with Pytr, gives a curt nod to Ran. As she goes to remove the rope tied to Mouse. "Keep the Royal family safe. We'll clear the path while you get the carriage through the blockade." She climbs up onto her horse, slinging her shield over her back and taking out the crossbow from its holster on Mouse.
"Wynora, take the left flank. Elinor, the right. Pytr, you're with me in the center. Keep a sharp eye, we have work to do, now isn't the time for distractions."
Perception 10 (14 Passive)
Hopefully begin moving with the guards to clear the road past the blockade...
Ronegan sighs and rubs his eyes, not looking at Elavor, instead keeping his eyes on the confrontation in front of him. This was exactly the sort of scene he anticipated so many times. Seeing it play out here, in front of him just renewed his hopes that something had to change. It was the basis of so many lessons he had imparted to Onyx, Opal and the other children.
Instead of moving any further though, he pushes some of the wiry black hair out of his face and peers up into the sky. "Judging by the positioning of the sun, we're a good 3 or 4 days from the nearest settlement, IF we had a complement of full supplies. My people are generally hospitable to travelers though, so if we can find a spot in Lahiri, we can probably recoup most of what we lost in terms of material, if not people.. We are going to be very late to this tournament though especially if we stop, and I'm not sure it bodes well for the King and Queen." Ronegan also feverently wished he could spend the night in a comfortable tavern bed along the way, but did not actually say those words.
As Ran comes over and gives his instructions, Ronegan gives him a weak smile and nod of gratitude. Turning to the twins, the little halfling sighs and rubs his hands. "The two of you have far more understanding of these creatures than I do. I always was afraid of these beastly things. What say you give your old tutor a lesson on how to calm a horse?"
Kiran looks thoughtfully at Ran for a long moment before turning back to Pytr, "He speaks sense, we should listen to him, please. Ensure the road ahead is clear."
He'll then move to start sorting through how many wagons they can reasonably pull with the horses they have and loading gear onto them and onto the top of the carriage as much as possible to ensure they do not leave anything of use or value behind.
Lowering his sword slowly he looks at Opal with a sorrowful expression.
"You're among the faithful. How do you allow this....this...this blasphemy," Pytr demands as Opal sighs.
"It's not a matter of faith that compels you now but of vengeance for what has happened to you moments ago. I...I do not understand that magic but she's helped us and the Lightbringer says if it's in a person's heart to see the Light than we must lead them to it. No one suffers unjustly and we make no summary judgments without reason," the young princess adds as Pytr nods his eyes flicking to Petal horse form before seeing Onyx move into the line of sight between Petal and Pytr.
"Come on Pytr," Onyx calls out with a soft expression. "You came to us as a boy with nothing. No family and no home. We gave you both. We grew up together...please let us move on from here now. As Ran says they could return at any moment," he adds solemnly.
Just then a horn blast echos from a distance as well as the sounds of howling faintly on the wind!
Pytr eyes go wide as he looks to the twins then Varen.
"Yes, of course," Pytr replies finally sheaths his sword and looking towards Varen and Mouse. "I...," he shrugs not sure what to do as Varen holds an arm out and he mounts her horse behind her.
"No, no time! No forward guard," Opal says looking at Ran her face stern but apologetic. The princess looks to her twin brother and her mother who's distractedly looking towards the trees. "Onyx in with mother and father. Kiran sod the damned luggage," the princess adds curtly as the howling increases in the distance! "We won't survive a second wave! We must leave now," she commands circling her hand in the arm as if to say 'mount up' as Onyx scrambles towards the carriage. "Lahiri is not far. An hour or two but surely there's towns on the other side of these damnable trees," she adds as Onyx nods.
Queen Citrine smiles at the daughter taking charge but composes herself quickly.
"We can take one more in here," Queen Citrine says looking to Ronegan. "Come schoolmaster. I wish to speak with you," she adds motioning for Ronegan to join the royal family as she ducks inside the carriage and then pops her head out to Kiran. "Master Kiran if you don't mind driving the carriage...we could use your skill and I trust you'll steer us right," she adds with a nod before disappearing again inside.
Looking at Varen then at Opal the remaining female house guard, Wynora and Elinor, mount a gnoll horse together and follow after Opal who looks to Petal now. The princess looks fascinated but also cautious.
"Can...uh someone ride you or not....," Opal pauses not looking around to see if anyone is amused by how foolish she feels talking to a horse! "Or will you return to your...right form and join me? I think you're the only one he can carry with me and my armor," Opal says to Petal hoping her words get through.

As Pytr joins her, Varen notes, "If it comes to it, I'll hand you the reins and start shooting. Be ready!" She has the loaded crossbow cradled in one arm, Mouse's reins in the other.
About to agree with Ronegan, and thank him for his level head, Elavor hears the horn blast and smiles thankfully at the halfling, quickly turning to Dust...
Elavor gently steers Dust in the direction the wagon is moving, mounting her quickly after he makes sure all of her tack and his gear is still in place.
"After all we've been through, girl... why do I have the feeling this is just the start of something much larger?" he whispers to her.
Pulling his shortbow, he approaches where he sees Opal speaking with the draft horse that was Petal... waiting to see what happens after Opal asks her the questions.
Elavor thinks:
After the initial shock of seeing her change, he reminded himself that this type of magic would have been more acceptable for most of the history of Embarra. Only after the recent events of the Darkness and Lightbringer did any of this change. His own thoughts wander on, curious if it's something Petal was born with, or if this was something she studied to do and if it has anything to do with her sometimes odd behavior... even more curious as to the ancient carvings and writings he's seen through the years. Tales of ancient magics. He never felt as if he had that power.. but something in him (possibly his elvish ancestry) called him to find out more about it...
Kiran will throw the chest of essentials quickly on the carriage seat beside him and take the reins, ready to head out, nodding his head to the queen and glancing at the chest, "Luggage I'm not worried, but I'd like to have some food with us."
