“What if the cauldron turned her into what she became?” Qinfaren asks, nodding his big head back towards the caves. “We can’t just leave it without knowing what magic it has.”

"Actually," Bjorn adds thoughtfully. "I think she might have been a sea hag. She had slimy scales and pallid skin that is common for sea hags. Plus, didn't she have hair like seaweed?"
Once everyone is settled in a boat, Shad helps with the rowing.
"This meeting you mentioned," he says to the captain, "what will they be discussing? Do you know if they have plans for the dwarves? Human sacrifice can't be the best way to end the winter. Are they considering alternatives?"
Qinfaren leaves the talking to Shad on the journey back. He spends his time on the journey back, sitting quietly, and keeping one hand on the cauldron, trying to feel the rhythms of the world flowing through it, all hoping to get a better idea of what magic it may posses.
(OOC: I thought Qinfaren was in the same boat as the cauldron also, but if not . . . )
Shad will lean toward the cauldron, resting his hand against it, whether or not the captain can see. As he rests, he'll seek to understand and harmonize with it, atune himself to it.
(Well, to attune to the cauldron, takes a short rest, but she isn't going to just let you sit there holding to cauldron for an hour before it is in the town hall.)

On the quayside, Arogna joins Shad and Qinfaren, beckoning Bjorn over.
"Listen, I know this lot came an' rescued us an' all, but I ain't keen to hang around this town longer'n I gotta, with the sacrificin' an' all. I hopes that ain't what they wants the cauldron for. I'm gonna go an' find Muharg, I dunno if he left town already. An' then I think I better get myself another job like what he was suggestin'. This one ain't payin' enough danger money for me, you know?"
The half-orc grins. "I'm real glad we all made it outa this safe, though. You're good people, all a you. Come along if you wants to - I reckon there'll be work for all a us someplace. An' if you sees Mister Bassk before I does, tell him I'm gonna bring back the uniform just as soon's I can."
She looks at the torn, slashed, bloodied and wet Luskar Deliverers jacket ruefully. "I better get it patched up first like. He ain't gonna be all that happy. Or maybe I'll earn enough to jus' pay him for it, an' keep it for a mem'ry. Yeah."
With another grin, Arogna sets off along the quay. "Don't wait on me," she calls to Arlaggath. "I might be a bit of time like."
Before Arogna can step away, Qinfaren wraps his big arms around here and gives her a farewell hug.
"We'll find you," Qinfaren says, wiping a tear away.
He turns and looks out over the ice from where he came and then to Bjorn.
"This feels like the end of the line for the Luskar Delivers," Qinfaren says. "But this winter still threatens to move south to my home and it needs to be stopped. And I still don't like the thought that the dogs are out there getting mistreated somewhere. I'll kick around the Ten Towns for awhile."
Then as Arogna walks away, he adds "what are you going to do next, Shad?"
(Okay, to keep going, and avoid any further delays.)
Shad stealthily attunes to the cauldron and learns that to activate the properties of the cauldron that one needs to fill the cauldron with water and stir it for one minute. He also learns that it currently has two charges left.
However, it is still unclear what the cauldron actually does.

"Ugh, yeah," Arogna says. "Imagine a whole bunch a those runnin' a town. Maybe when we gets on the shore, we can find where they're gonna put it."

Captain Arlaggath's men load the skiff with the cauldron before helping Shad climb in. Arlaggath herself then climbs into the boat herself.
This leaves Arogna, Bjorn and Qinfaren to take the row boat back to town.
Once you get to the other side of the lake, you still have to drag the boat across the ice and into town.

Captain Arlaggath looks over at Shad, "Come on, we had better take that cauldron to Speaker Waylen."

Once in the other side of the lake, Qinfaren moves over to Shad.
”Were you able to learn anything about the cauldron?”
(OOC: I'm not sure if Shad successfully attuned to the cauldron or not. What might he have learned, TheBritGeek? Or did the captain interrupt?)

(How long was the trip back from the caves? I'd thought that was an hour at least)
(True, but there would be a requirement to work on the boat. The boat journey across the icy lake is not an easy trip.)

Thank you all for the game! I've enjoyed it, but some of my face-to-face friends have asked me to DM. We're thinking of Rime of the Frostmaiden.
Wish me luck!
Death on the Water and Baldur's Gate Bodyguard
(Hope it goes really well Squaretoes!! I think you will make an excellent DM!)
Good luck and thanks. We made it a couple of years.
Thank you very much!
