“Brand-new members of the Luskar Deliverers, I am proud to announce that your first adventure is about to begin!” Speaking to you is Parcelmaster Lennart Bassk, leader of the Luskar Deliverers, your mercenary company. He is a half-orc with a broad and attractive physique, and dresses in a sharp suit. “We’ve been contacted by a number of people throughout Luskan, all of whom have deliveries bound for the north. Your fellows are currently outfitting a ship to take you northward, called the Icebreaker. I have assembled a map of this city, and a list of people with packages for you to find.
“They shall pay you well in advance, and you shall be paid again when your deliveries are completed. Be dressed in armor and hold weapons, my friends. Your journey will be dangerous, but even this city of Luskan is not a safe harbor. Be ready, and look to this map and list. Gather three of these packages; the rest shall be gathered and delivered to the Icebreaker by your friends. Safe travels, my friends.”
Even inside the Luskan Deliverers office, In the Shadow of the Mountain wears a heavy white coat, the grey fur around the edge of its hood mixing with the fur of his face. He considers the list and he considers the others in the room.
"I am In the Shadows of the Mountain, also called Shad," he says. "Among other things. What are your names and have you heard of any of these listed? Where might we find them and their packages?" He will try to recall anything he's heard about anyone on the list.
(Maybe personal History, TheBritGeek? If so, here's Shad's roll: 6)
Muharg reaches forward and grabs the map and the list. After looking at them for a few seconds, he says:
"All right sir. A couple of questions if I may... Where could we obtain some indications as to where to find these individuals? And, how much should we ask for as payment?"
He then passes the documents around.
OOC: May we know where in the map are we currently?
Shad studies the list but fails to recall anything about any of the name on the list.
Parcelmaster Lennart Bassk replies to Muharg, "They will be somewhere around town. You'll have to look for them though, I don't keep track of our customers like that. Besides, that's what you're getting paid for. You'll get five gold pieces each in advance, that will give you fifteen gold pieces each when you collect three parcels.
Standing at five and a half feet tall, Rianath is just shy of average build for a half-elf. His olive skin pairs neatly with his mussed black hair and hazel eyes. His jaw is lined with a short but neatly trimmed strap of beard that he scritches idly while he looks over the list.
"Shouldn' be too hard for us t'find a bunch of customers wantin' us t'do a job for 'em, yeah?" He turns an eager grin to the others, face open and friendly. "My name's Rianath Tallstag. I'm lookin' forward t'workin' with ya."
Qinfaren stands up, slowly unfolding his 7'10" Firbolg frame. He really had no idea how he ended up the office of the Luskar Deliverers. He had been in Luskan for less than an hour. He had barely begun making inquiries about the weather when he opened this door and was invited in and hired as a courier. He wondered if that's what happened to all new arrivals in the city. The parcelmaster seemed a bit curt and a little angry. Qinfaren guessed that he probably had not eaten breakfast yet. But maybe they didn't eat breakfast in the city. That gave him pause. No wonder they always seem rushed.
He moves closer to the others, and with a shy smile on his face, introduces himself. They all seem friendly, much more so than the parcelmaster. They definitely have eaten he thinks.
"I'm Qinfaren," he says. "Some call me Qinfaren the Quiet."
His booming voice is far from quiet.
He shakes hands with whomever will, looking carefully at each of their hands and the clothes they're wearing. He's especially curious about Shadows of the Mountain. He would really like to reach out and touch Shadows' fur but something in the Tabaxi's eyes make him pull his hand back.
He looks down at the list of names.
"Nezznar the Black Spider," he says. "In my experience, spiders are always up high. The number of times I've had to brush webs out of my face. I would start with that one."
Muharg gladly shakes Qinfaren hand looks up at him from his 4’6” and nods with a smile. Then crosses his arms making his chainmail rattle and clicks his tonge.
“I wonder what kind of person would like to be know as a spider. Not that I have anything against these liitle bugs, but can’t find a reason to be called after them”
"They do make the most intricate and beautiful webs," Qinfaren suggests. "In the spring, at sunrise, when the light catches the dew you can see all the little strands reaching out from a central core. Maybe Nezznar has his own web?"
He smiled down at Muharg. He liked dwarves. You always knew what they were thinking. Others were more confusing to Qinfaren.
"Spiders always seem to listen to me more when they have a few morsels wrapped up and put away for dinner. I would start somewhere people eat and drink in this town" he says, again fighting the urge to reach out and touch the tabaxi.
"Well, sometimes they can be impatient and don't really want to do what I ask of them," Qinfaren says. "But they're not nearly as stubborn as pine trees. You have no idea the amount of cajoling it takes to get them to point out the right direction when you're lost. They really need to relax more. Just accept the world as it comes, you know. Go with the flow. But I suppose killer pine beetles and forest fires do make them a little uptight."
He turns to see if the others are ready to set out to find Nezznar.
Shad reaches out and shakes hands all around, including tall Qinfaren and shorter Muharg.
"I am glad to meet you all," he says. "Glad to work with you. I've thought about the list, but I haven't heard yet of any of those named on it. I guess we can wander the town asking, but have any of you heard of any of them? Rianath? How long have you been in Luskan?"
He'll move toward the door, ready to wander that's what the others would like.
Muharg drops his arms to the sides, staring at Qinfaren expressionless, then rises his eyebrows, looks at Rianath and wispers -way too loud- “is this guy being serious?”
Rianath grins at Muharg and shrugs. "Da' had a friend who got turned into a horse once. I don't much doubt anythin' at this point, really,"he answers with an amused whisper.
He turns to Shad with an apologetic expression. "I've only been in Luskan a couple o' days, myself. But a city's a city, so usually best way to find someone is to hit up a tavern and ask around, in my experience." He lifts a hand to wave at the Parcelmaster as he trots over to follow along with the tabaxi. "With luck, it won't take too much time t' find our marks, and we'll have a few more coins in our pouches, t' boot!"
"Well," Shad says, "I've heard there's spells to talk to animals. Why not trees? Mages probably do it all the time." He takes a piece of sticky pink jerky from deep within his coat, bites it, and thinks for a moment. "Spiders are up high, Qinfaren? You think Nezznar is in a tall building?"
Rianath crosses one arm across his chest to brace his other elbow as his hand cups his chin. "Hnn. Or a low dark place. Depends on the type o' spider, I reckon." He looks around at the others, rubbing idly at his chin.
"In my experience," a tall, well-built half-orc with a wild mane of red curls and braids starts as she turns to the others, "anyone called 'the Spider' is probably the informational sort. Y'know, the type what deals in shadows and brokers information for coin." She peruses the list for a moment more and then shrugs. "I'm Rahkati, by the by, though you can call me Rahk, if ya want; most do," she informs them, then grins. "It's nice to meet everyone and set out a proper adventure; been lookin' forward to this!"
Stepping back outside you notice that one of the tallest buildings in Luskan, is the lighthouse on the North Bank, the other side of the bay, down by the coast. Which would mean that you have to cross one of the three bridges to get to the other side.
Then there's the five islands in the bay. There are many places on those islands that could be of interest. Though they would also require crossing the bay. For some of the islands, you can cross the connecting bridges. But a couple do not have bridges.
However, you can see that there a ships that are moored on the beaches on both sides of the bay. These of course, are not showing on the map.

Muharg takes a look up and down the street, adjusts his belt and approaches the closest adult passerby.
"Good day there, my friends and I find ourselves in the need to find a tavern. Would you be so kind to point us to the nearest one, please..." takes a quick glance at Quinfaren "...with decent ale?" and smiles politely at the individual.

Qinfaren claps his large hands together at Rhak's words, pleased to finally find someone who understands spiders.
"Yes. That is it. Each strand of a web conveys information back to the spider at it's center."
Then he smiles.
"I do hope the Black Spider is in a tavern. I would dearly like to see what Luskan ale is like."
