Chilling Adventures in the North

Bjorn fires his arrow at the verbeeg. However, the arrow strikes against the verbeeg's armour before splintering.

Blue, however, is more successful in his attack. He manages to bite at the verbeeg's ankle, sinking in his teeth.

Then the bear successfully manages to scratch Bjorn with his claws. Bjorn lets out a cry of pain as the bear draws blood, and Bjorn is looking worse for wear.

Ricky notes the problem behind but keeps focused on the task at hand, trying to give the Verbeeg another wallop from his world class fist

Attack: 6 Damage: 11 

Qinfaren, manages to avoid both strikes from the verbeeg. The roar of the bear from behind causes him to split his attention for a moment before he turns back to the verbeeg.

Again he swipes at the giant with the flame blade but he then also remembers to direct the dire wolf to get involved this time. As Qinfaren attacks high, the dire wolf leaps forward, biting at the legs of the giant.

Action: Flame Blade  Attack: 7 Damage: 10  fire damage

Bonus Action: Direct Dire Wolf against the Verbeeg - Pack Tactics give it advantage on attack: Bite Attack: 16 Damage: 6   DC 13 Strength Save or be knocked prone.

     “We’re attacking because you come from an untrustworthy race and  Ricky thinks your head will help his political aspiratio…  Arrrgh!” Bàn starts to explain before being rudely interrupted by the mouth of a bear clamping upon him.

     Instinctively Bàn swings a first at the bear and is able to turn it into a spell before he finishes his swing.

With the verbeeg now standing, he is harder to hit at close range than before. As such, when Ricky throws one of his first-class fists, he misses.

Likewise, when Qinfaren tries to get the verbeeg with his flame blade, he also misses.

However, the wolf is a better natural predator, and he manages to bite the verbeeg, and bring him to the ground.

Bàn switches to attacking the bear. At such close quarters, the bear is an easy target. Bàn's spell strikes the bear in the shoulder, causing it excruciating pain.

After being knocked to the floor, the verbeeg climbs back to his feet. He lets out a roar which must be a war cry, and thrusts his spear at Qinfaren again.

Bjorn focuses on it in response to having his back torn open by the bear. However, at a close distance, firing an arrow would be difficult. Bjorn puts his longbow away and draws his scimitar. As Bjorn swings the scimitar, Blue infuses it with his draconic essence.

(Attack: 18 Damage: 9 slashing damage + 2 cold damage.)

"Attack the bear."

Blue moves away from the verbeeg turning towards the bear and biting it instead.

(Attack: 21 Damage: 4 + 2 cold damage.)

Bjorn's scimitar is accurate in its swing and bites into the bear's back. The infused essence leaves some frost on the wound.

Blue gets close to the bear and sinks his teeth into the bear's front leg, also leaving the leg with some frostbite.

The bear is now badly injured and backs away from Bàn, Bjorn and Blue. It whimpers as it moves.

(Takes dodge action.)

Meanwhile, at the other end of the tunnel, behind the verbeeg, an ogre appears. It roars as it enters the tunnel and throws a javelin at Ricky.

(Attack: 20 Damage: 14 piercing damage.)

Ricky has a javelin sticking out of his chest now, but one look around shows him there's only one way out

He punches the Verbeeg again and attempts to trip it again

Attack: 22 Damage: 7 + 8 DC 13 str save

If it hits, AND falls

Ricky punches the verbeeg, striking his fist into the verbeeg's shin. However, the verbeeg struggles with Ricky and prevents himself from being tripped up.

Qinfaren slashes down at the verbeeg, careful not to hit Ricky.

He directs the dire wolf to keep biting at the verbeeg’s legs as well.

Flame Blade - Attack: 12 Damage: 11  

Dire Wolf - Attack: 22 Damage: 6  and DC13 or knocked prone

     Bàn considers just letting the bear leave do as to focus on the bigger threats, but so far the bear was the only one that had wounded him and ge didn’t want it at his back…  So he lashed out with his whip again, an Eldritch Blast flying off its tip as it cracks.

     Bàn also mentally instructs Owl to fly back here, they may be needed!

(Ricky, Qinfaren, Bàn, Verbeeg, Bjorn, bear, and humanoid.)

Qinfaren swings with his flame blade, but he is blocked by the verbeeg. However, the verbeeg leaves an opening for the dire wolf to bite him and drag him to the floor.

Bàn sees the bear back away, but doesn't hesitate to blast a beam of energy at the bear. However, the blast goes wild and sails over the bear's back. Owl then flies back down the tunnel, just behind the ogre.

The verbeeg stands back up again and, frustrated with Qinfaren, thrusts his spear at him twice.

Bjorn sees the bear back away, thinking it is safe; he turns his focus back to the verbeeg. He fires an infused arrow at the giant.

(Attack: 11 Damage: 7 piercing damage + 1) cold damage.)

"Attack the verbeeg."

Blue turns away from the bear and moves to the verbeeg to bite him.

(Attack: 13 Damage: 3 piercing damage + 2 cold damage.)

The bear turns and runs away from the fight back into its part of the cave.

The ogre decides to continue with the fight. It picks up another spear lying nearby and throws it at Bjorn.

(Attack: 9 Damage: 14 piercing damage.)

Ricky tries to gut punch the verbeeg and bring him down one punch at a time

Attack: 15 Damage: 4 

The wrath of the verbeeg is too much for Qinfaren to push to the side, and the two spear strikes cut deeply. He almost buckles and falls to his knees, but he just manages to keep his head up.

As he steadies himself, he says "Sanitatem verbo," in what he thinks of as a whisper but is anything but. The bleeding from the two wounds slows slightly.

Qinfaren then slashes out with the burning scimitar again, hoping to catch the verbeeg this time. As he does, the dire wolf leaps forward to bite at the giant's leg again.

Bonus Action: Cast Healing Word and heals 6  HP

Action: Flame Blade Attack: 19 Damage: 10  

Dire Wolf: Bite Attack: 17 Damage: 10  (still with advantage from Pack Tactics)

     Having heard someone (Bjorn?) call out for attacks on the verbeeg, and since the bear is out of sight for now, Bàn turns and changes targets. Bàn first eyes up the creature and casts Hex (Bonus Action, disadvantage on Strength checks) and then cracks his whip in it’s direction, snapping off another Eldritch Blast

Ricky's punch is accurate, striking the verbeeg squarely in the gut. He is looking badly beaten at this point.

Qinfaren takes a moment to heal himself, but he doesn't give the verbeeg the opportunity. He slashes at the verbeeg with his flame blade cutting deep into his side.

The wolf then lunges at the verbeeg biting him and killing him. The wolf tears into the now lifeless body of the verbeeg as it topples to the floor.

Seeing that the verbeeg is now down and out, Bàn turns to attack the ogre. He blasts the ogre in the chest with his eldrich blast. The ogre grunts from the force of the attack.

Bjorn takes the opportunity to fire another arrow, this time at the ogre. As it flies through the air, Blue infuses it with his essence.

(Attack: 15 Damage: 4 + 2 cold damage. )

Bjorn then instructs Blue to "Attack the ogre."

Blue moves closer to the ogre and then attempts to bite him.

(Attack: 9 Damage: 6 + cold damage. )

Bjorn's arrow is accurate and strikes the ogre in the face. However, the ogre dodges out of the way when Blue goes in to attack.

The ogre retaliates by stepping over the fallen verbeeg, and swinging its club at Qinfaren.

(Attack: 18 Damage: 14 bludgeoning damage.)

Qinfaren collapses to the ground from the impact of the club.

If the ogre stepping up triggers it, I'd like to use the Brace combat maneuver to punch the ogre as it approaches, then follow-up for a punch combo

Brace Attack: 20 Damage: 7 + 8 

Regular turn attack Attack: 14 Damage: 8 

     Ban shifts position, edging away from where the bear could potentially re-enter and getting himself within at least 60 feet of the now fallen Qinfaren.  Bàn sends another Eldritch Bladt at the over and then shouts “Get up, Qinfaren!  We’re not at nap time yet!” sending a Healing Word his way.
