"Hmm... Birds usually mind their own businesses, but at least in my experience, you can't always trust them. If you don't believe me, try to eat some roasted fish next to a flock of seagulls." Tilts his head eloquently. "I don't know about these ones, though. Qinfaren, Bjorn, do you think we should be concerned?"

Bjorn looks up at the birds and frowns, "I don't know any kind of bird that would fly directly towards people on the ground. Especially not in a flock. Let me try and scare them away. We may even get some dinner out of it."
Bjorn unslings his bow and takes a bead at the approaching flock and lets loose an arrow.

Following Bjorn's lead, Arogna grabs her warhammer in one hand, and readies a javelin with the other. She will throw it if Bjorn's arrow doesn't make them stop approaching. There's not much chance of the weapon bringing down a bird, but it might put them off.
Javelin 12 to hit with dis at long range (30-120ft), for 9 piercing damage

Qinfaren watches the birds as the descend. He watches the way they spread their wings and catch the wind beneath them to stay aloft.
"From what I know about birds," Qinfaren begins, "they're pretty much always looking for food. If they're coming here they must think they've found some."
He looks back up at them more closely, trying to see their size and what kind of birds they are.
Bjorn grows serious as he sees the birds swerve away from his arrows and keep coming. He shouts a warning to his companions, "Get ready. I don't think these birds are friendly!"

Seeing the dogs are well defended, Muharg stands close to Shad and Qinfaren, between them and the birds, axe and shield at the ready. “I’m no good at range, but if they get close to you, they’ll pay for it.”

Shad thinks the birds probably have their beady eyes upon them, but he feels surprise is always a good thing. In the confusion around the dogs and his allies, he will try to hide, but before he does, he says, "I can bless one of you with stealth, my friends. It might helps us when they get closer." Shad's Stealth: 22
(OOC: Blessing of the Trickster: As an action you can touch a willing creature other than yourself to give it advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks for 1 hour or until you use this feature again.)
Shad slips his crossbow from deep within his coats. He will cast Bless on his colleagues, watching the birds. He does wonder if they taste like chicken and plans to find out if they attack.
"They really don't look very friendly," Qinfaren says. "We must be bigger than their usual prey. Must just be hungry. Perhaps the smell of the winter wolf meat has drawn them here."
He looks around at their supplies and then back up at the birds.
"Do we want to toss some of the last of the meat out and see if they go for that instead of us?"
(OOC - Blood Hawks were 400' away and are coming in at what speed - something like 50' per round? So think the party has a couple of rounds to do something else if we want to)
"Good plan, Qinfaren. Give 'em some easy pickin's." Arogna quickly pulls a couple of steaks out of the wrapped package on the sled, and tosses them as far as she can towards the hawks, making the meat arc high in the air.

"For all you know we look like prey to them. Only way to stop some agressive predators is to make them think we are not worth the hassle. I suggest we try to take some of them down before they get any closer," Bjorn continues to fire arrows at the incoming birds in an attempt to deter them or at least get a headstart should they attack.

Bjorn fires an arrow at the birds. However, they all move in unison to swerve out of the way of the arrow.
Arogna throws her javelin, but it falls too short to be of concern to the birds.
Qinfaren watches the birds fly closer and recognises them as blood hawks, with six of them in total.

(OOC - how far away are the blood hawks, and should we roll initiative yet or are they too far away for that?)
Calling on the Cat Lord, Shad will prepare Bless in case the birds become hostile.
