Backstory: Garcis was born in the sewers of the city of Waterdeep, living amongst his clan that had long made their way through life by stealing things from the city above. At a young age, the clan was taken over by a group of drow that had made their way into the city through Undermountain.
Taken as a slave, the young kobold spent a long time being forced to do various things throughout the places the drow forced him to go. One of the male drow decided to entertain himself by forcing Garcis to fight against other slaves with nothing but a broken dagger. It was expected for the Kobold to die in a single blow due to the weak nature that most of his kind was known for, but in a trick of fate he won against the goblin pitted against him.
Amused by this the drow then began to make Garcis fight other slaves on a semi often basis, slowly even allowing him to learn to fight somewhat. Eventually for more fun in the fights he was left with nothing but his fists to fight, making him learn to turn his hands into a deadly weapons.
Fortune smiled upon Gacis one day as a group of adventurers came through the place he was being held and slaughtered his drow captors. After looting anything worthwhile and freeing the slaves, the adventurers left and Garcis was free. Without much to do, the Kobold choose to work under the strongest of the now freed slaves in an attempt to survive. Doing this enabled him to overtime make his way to the Underdark City of Skullport, using his skills in one on one fights to become a pit fighter. After earning enough coin to buy some weapons and basic survival gear, Garsic left the city to travel the dark tunnels of the Underdark. One day though he woke up in a Misty clearing with a pounding heachache.
Backstory: Baern lived a simple life as a young dwarf and stone mason who hoped to join his clan's famed shield phalanx unit when he came of age. That was until one extremely foggy night his mother simply disappeared. He, his brothers and their father looked for her for days, weeks, several years even, but there was absolutely no sign of her. As others gave up hope Baern refused. He began having dreams of his mother in the fog, and soon saw himself reaching out to her with light cast from a symbol of the storm god. (Kord? Thor?) Baern immediately decided to travel to the nearest city with a temple to this god, and there tried to find the connection he was looking for. Not long after, however, he awoke in front of a massive, mysterious stone gate with others who look to be equally as confused.

Name: Tinker Fizzeltin
Race: Tiefling
Class: Fighter (Gunslinger)
Background: Guild Artisan
Backstory: Tinker was abandoned as a baby and subsequently raised by the kind-hearted, somewhat fanatic inventor Finkle Fizzeltin. Tinker learned everything he knows from his father Finkle and their close relationship sparked Tinker's passion for mechanics and creation. Tinker knows very little of his tiefling origins. Finkle tells him that he was found as a toddler, wondering through the town alone, though Tinker has no recollection of this. He has had a fairly solitary upbringing, close to his father who would rather spend the evening mingling with automatons than other gnome folk. Tinker filled his time with learning; reading of the world's history and researching his origins with the hope he might one day learn why his real parents abandoned him. When he wasn't in his books, Finkle's personal bodyguard would often teach Tinker the proper means of self defence with a rapier and bow, despite Finkle's affront for such trivial weaponry - Finkle Fizzeltin is the member of a very exclusive guild of inventors, entrusted with the knowledge of how to build firearms. Finkle had kept this knowledge from Tinker up until his 21st birthday; the day of his induction into the guild; the last day he remembers clearly before awaking before this "great gate".

Tell me what is it like to have a soul? For the way I came into this world makes it hard for me to believe if I have one or not. Let me explain. I was not born as most of the mortal races are born, I was forge by the Smiths of Moradin, the dwarven holy order that follow the Dwarven head deity Moradin, god of the forge. The forge me out of shaped wood and metal creating a moving statue of a Humanoid. The priests were only did what the foreseen in a vision not knowing about the being the were bringing to this world. Moradin please by their creation gave the final spark needed for their creation ... life. So I came into being a metal worshipper of the their god. The priests please with their creation named me after the Dwarven word for anvil, and have me help deals with issues with outside attackers and with blacksmithing their works. I did not mind my position, but I was not sure if my belief stemmed from my soul, or if I was made to believe that way. So after a few years living with the priests I went out into the wider world to try to find an answer to my dilemma.
Backstory: Adreek Ironfist was born to Darrak Ironfirst and his mate, Kathra Frostbeard. He was to be the first of many children for Darrak had ambitious plans and his wife agreed with them wholeheartedly. Alas for both, fortune of the foulest kind struck in the form of an Orc raid on the Ironfist clan's home caverns beneath Neverwinter. Though defeated, the raid was costly for the clan and especially Adreek. Kathra died in the fighting and Darrak was struck a cruel blow with a poisoned blade. He survived for a time but no magic or potion proved equal to the task. He sold all his possessions and made of the funds and his son a gift to the Temple of Moradin, asking them to care for the child and rear him well in the ways of the Dwarves. Adreek was but 3 at the time.
The young Dwarf studied hard and trained harder but soon proved to have little taste for the life of a priest. Though devout in his worship he clearly did not have the calling. Cindrak the High Priest saw this early and turned Adreek's energies to the path of the monk, a path to which he was well suited. As the years moved on, Adreek grew in proficiency with the skills and requirements of the monastic life and his devotion to law and order soon became apparent, as well as his keen mind and keener desire to hunt criminals. On his fiftieth name day, Cindrak presented him a letter, an introduction to the Lord of the City Watch of Neverwinter.
"Adreek, you have the soul of warrior and the desire to protect the people. But your skills are wasted here, where crime, while not unknown, is limited. Above, in Neverwinter, there is crime aplenty to find and stop. I have corresponded with Narwin, Lord of the City Watch, and told him of you. He has agreed to take you on, first as a member of the Watch and, if that proves well, an Investigator. I believe this is where Moradin wants you to serve, for now."
Taking the letter, Adreek bowed his thanks to the old dwarf and inside his heart sang for this was the path he had thought to take but had been loathe to leave the tunnels of his people.
Not sure if I'm too late, but I'd like to add a character into the mix for consideration.

Name: Yosner
Race: Rock Gnome
Class: Wizard (Chronurgy)
Background: Inheritor
Backstory: Yosner grew up tinkering with all manner of mechanical objects. His father was a member of the Tinkerer's Guild, and his specialty was time pieces. This started Yosner's love of time, especially when he started to show adeptness for the arcane arts and so started towards a career in the School of Chronurgy. His studies were interrupted however, with the disappearance of his father. No one has been able to find him, however Yosner inherited much of what he owned including a small time piece. The piece, a pocket watch, doesn't work and despite Yosner's best efforts, he has yet been able to figure out why it doesn't work nor how he can fix it.
Setting out to try and determine what has happened to his father, Yosner embarked on a journey of his own, though knew not where it would take him. Now, he awakens in the strangest of places, unable to recall how he arrived. Time, it seemed, was not so friendly to him today, but he was determined to master it in time so that this wouldn't happen again.
Recruitment is now closed - any applications after this point will not be considered.
Once again, thank you everyone for your time and effort submitting applications.
Currently looking to complete going through characters today and informing those that have been selected; I shall post in this thread when I have done so.
Rest assured for those that are not selected - I currently have a list of all the usernames / characters that have been submitted in case anyone should drop out over the course of the campaign. Please don't be disheartened, I too have been there before!
