For long years, you labored in the fields like all the peasants, sweating hot and dirty in the summer, only to shiver under the threadbare hides when winter came. This year's harvest ended like all the rest, and autumn's work was hard on Old Man Roberts. When you visited his bedside at the end, he spoke in labored breaths of constellations that hadn't been seen since he was a young lad. The last time the Empty Star had risen in the sky, it was more than fifty winters past, he said. Under the light of that strange star a portal had opened by the old stone mounds. He'd seen jewels in there and fine steel spears and enameled armor, but he'd run when the iron men had attacked. Now, old and dying, he wishes he'd taken the chance on a life of adventure. The Empty Star is once more rising, and a young man with courage could be more than just another peasant - if only he'd taken the chance Old Man Roberts hadn't.
**** it.
You're taking that chance. You stand before the monolithic rocks of the old stone mounds, under the dark light of a starry sky. The Empty Star is clear and bright above you. Three of the large stone blocks lean haphazardly together to form an upright rectangular portal about the size of a man. They seem to be placed directly beneath the star's path. As the Empty Star ascends to it's brightest point, it's light catches the portal, and a shimmering stone lined corridor is visible through the stones, but only from one side of the opening. Grasping your pitchfork with white knuckles, you step in to the starlit portal which was not there before today, thoughts of jewels and scorching wheat fields foremost in your mind.
See area 1 on the map.
Even though the hallway is visible from only one side of the portal, you tread on solid flagstones. The starlight fades as it reaches into this hallway, which dead-ends ahead at a stout iron-banded door. Jewels or crystals in an odd assortment of star shapes are inscribed on the door.
Mouth literally salivating at the potential score of piles of gold right behind the door, Victor (dwarven rat-catcher) wipes away the drool coming down his chin with an even filthier tattered shirt sleeve. A wide, single toothed grin makes its way onto his similarly dirty face, as he crouches down low, and swings his club at the door, eager to stake his claim on the riches within:
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Oliver (Oliver the Ostler, AC 10, HP 5) gapes at the jewel encrusted door and all the wonders at hand. "Wow, geez, this is pretty cool. It's not going to be dangerous, right? I mean, Old Man Roberts was probably crazy, right? This will be fine. I'm sure of it."
Ja (Elven Forester, AC 11, HP 4) looks wordlessly to Jo (Elven Forester, AC 11, HP 2) who returns the wordless look before moving forward to try to push the door open. Ja meanwhile turns to Oliver, "It will be dangerous, child. Stick with us and we'll protect you."

Hilda, the fruit vender, leaned against the wall. She has her arms crossed over her substantial bosoms, as she watches the others. She is in her off-season now as well, no fruit to sell this late in the year. She hopes to get enough of the riches from inside this place to get a shop and be able to move up from the cart she currently sells from.
Mally, the merchant, stands with the elf he hired to accompany him into this place. he glances to the elven maiden, who stands nearby with a falcon on her shoulder. "Remember, we are just after the treasure. Let the others deal with whatever else might be in there." he reminds the elf.
Thia, an elven falconer, glances to the fat merchant she had let talk her into this foolishness. "Just remember your part of the bargain. Food for Sabastian here for an entire year, once we are out of there." She adjusts the falcon on her shoulder as she too waits to see if the door can be opened. "If no one can break down that door we'll have wasted our time though..." She comments to no one in particular.
