Galqarin will slip by and cautiously climb the stairs, looking for the frightened old man's room. "Let the others work out if he means ill or weal", he thinks to himself. "Getting the relic back to the church is the most important thing."
Valerie (+ those outside the shop) - "Va-va-vampires!" Henrik has a wild look in his eye as he desperately reaches out a hand towards Galqarin as he enters the shop."Bewarrre!"he pleads, unfortunately Henrik's warnings fall on deaf ears.
Galqarin - Determined to restore the relic to it's rightful place and help out dear old Father Lucian, you stroll confidently into the coffin maker's shop. As you may expect, you are instantly confronted by a number of empty wooden coffins (13 if you had stopped to count). Pressing on you find three doors; through the first you find what must be Henrik's workshop - there is little that interests you there.
Pushing on the middle of the three doors you find stairs leading to the upper level. At the top of which you find a door on your left and a door on your right. The door on your right (to the left of the house) has sunlight streaming in, it is a kitchen where Henrik must prepare his meals, a further door lies on northern-most wall. The door on your left leads to darkness. Your eyes (due to darkvision) are able to make out a number of crates marked 'JUNK'. A cold draft hits the back of your neck as you peer into this large room, taking up most of the upper level, and you notice cobwebs everywhere.
Galqarin feels the hair on the back of his neck prickle. Shaking off the feeling, and fixated on the mission at hand, Galqarin cautiously opens the door to the North, reasoning that this is most likely the coffin maker’s room.
Dormark hearing the word vampire motions Hernrik out the door. “Get to the church and pray we return with the bones. Otherwise Vallaki may be doomed,” says Dormark. Looking towards Ioben, Dormark asks, “Do you think you can grab them quietly?”
Galqarin - The door creaks open to reveal that your suspicions were correct. The room is a modest bedchamber which holds a cot and several well-made pieces of furniture, including a table, a padded chair, a bookshelf, and a wardrobe. Compared to the rest of the building this room looks relatively clean and organised; the cot is made and the room kept clear of dust and cobwebs. Sunlight streams in through the windows.
Dormark - "Y-y-yes sir. I think you might be able to get to the bones - they're in the wardrobe, under a panel. Be wary of the store room at the top of the stairs. P-p-please, I never meant for any of this." Henrik stifles back a sob. "I'll h-head to the church, l-like you say."he looks downtrodden as he begins to walk in the direction of the church.
In the wardrobe, Galqarin recalls, ignoring the other furnishings and heading straight for it. Opening the wardrobe he begins to search within, looking for anything that resembles a relic, or perhaps a suspicious bag or box that is out of place amongst normal garments.
Sandu felt himself shivering despite the time of day. Vampires the old man had said. Vampires! He counted himself lucky that they had come during the day. Who knows what might have happened had they come last night... No, he should not think about that. A clear mind and eyes on the goal. He took a deep breath.
'This isn't over.' Sandu hissed at the coffin maker before letting him go on his way. He then turned to the others and spoke softly: 'You heard him. We should not take any unnecessary risks here. Get in, get the bones, get out, get back to the chuch. That's all we have to do. So we should-'
Realisation set in when Sandu did a quick headcount of the group. Someone was missing.
'Where is Galqarin?' A tinge of worry undercut the confusion in his question.
OOC: Galqarin's passive stealth of 16 does beat out Sandu's passive perception of 15.
((I'm not sure how stealthy Galqarin was aiming to be. That said, I like the fact that everyone was so focused on Henrik that they failed to see him walk straight into the shop!))
Galqarin - Please can you make an Investigation check.
Dormark - You see the same as Galqarin as you head into the shop; coffins strewn all over the place, 13 in total, otherwise it is well kept. As you head up the stairs you can hear a slight commotion coming from the rooms to your right. As you proceed through the first room to the right of the stairs you notice that it is clearly where Henrik prepares and eats his meals. Moving on through to the second room you spot a bed cot, a table with a padded chair, a bookshelf, and a wardrobe; poking out of the wardrobe you notice the familiar figure of Galqarin, desperately searching through its contents.
Sandu - Henrik quite audibly gulps as you hiss your warning to him, he nods his head frantically. "Yes-sir, my apologies... It was only business... only business." he says by way of explanation before moving off.
Dormark & Galqarin - In his fervour, it appears that Galqarin is paying little heed to where he puts the items he finds within the wardrobe; clothes are strewn over the once tidy room. There is a loud crashing sound as a particular jacket knocks over the lamp sitting next to the sleeping cot. It is abundantly clear that he has been unsuccessful in his searching so far.
Dormark grabs Gal’s shoulder turning him to face the warforge. Dormark has his finger pressed up to his mouth not making a sound. He than goes into the closet following Henrck’s instructions to access the bones.
Dormark - Following Henrik's instructions you are quickly able to find the concealed compartment. Within the compartment lies a sack you presume holds the bones of St. Andral. As you move to retrieve the items you are struck by the thought that this all feels a little too easy.
Please make an Investigation check, with advantage for Galqarin's assistance.
Dormark - You quickly refrain from removing the sack from the compartment as something catches your eye; lines of arcane energy tangle themselves around the bag and lead underneath it. It would seem that the sack has been 'booby trapped' in some way; likely some form of arcane glyph that has been cast to trigger should the bag be tampered with. These glyphs would likely need to be dispelled or disarmed in order to safely remove the bones.
((Making a successful Arcana check will successfully disarm the glyphs - this could either be undertaken by yourself or another party member. However, making an unsuccessful check will likely result in their activation.))
Dormark motions for Galqarin to follow him down the stairs moving towards the others he says, “I found the bag, but it is booby trapped with magic Sandu you think you could disable the enchantment?”
Currently you are unable to detect any essence / scent of any celestial, fiend, or undead.
((Valerie would know that she would not be able to detect anything that is behind total cover - meaning that Henrik's claims concerning Vampires could still be true.))
Valerie comes up and puts her hand on his shoulder. "Do not afraid. We are here to help. And what do you mean by they made you?"
She will wait for Henrik to calm down before asking. "What do you mean by they made you? Who made you do that?"
Galqarin will slip by and cautiously climb the stairs, looking for the frightened old man's room. "Let the others work out if he means ill or weal", he thinks to himself. "Getting the relic back to the church is the most important thing."
